Disc 1 should have the Core OS on it.. or at least it did with 10.2 and 10.3. If you select none of the other options (printer drivers, xcode, etc...) you should be able to install OS X + BSD subsystem with only disc 1.

The new MBPs are so underwhelming that I will run not walk to buy one of the 2010 machines (either Macbook or MBP) while I still can. Massive fail, Steve!

On my iBook I need to put the volume about halfway before I can hear anything. However it makes sense because I need to turn it down to about a quarter when using headphones - if it was louder without headphones then it would be unbearably loud with them. I hope that made sense!

You could do without the RAID-card altogether and just install 4 drives in the bays in the Mac Pro and use the ZFS filesystem (http://code.google.com/p/maczfs/) to make a dynamic stripe in RAID-Z, so you will get RAID-5 like performance but with better protection and data integrity.
You can't boot OS X from zfs, you can't use spotlight very well on zfs, quite a lot of applications/games won't work properly because zfs isn't case-insensitive and there are some more small problems. Zfs is great for a fileserver and various other kind of servers but in a Mac it's still hfs+ that is the best option (even though zfs is a much better filesystem).

As Apple's market share increases, so will the fury of competitors, legislators, hackers and open source advocates alike.
OS X is already cracking open (see for example http://semthex.freeflux.net/), and it is now possible to run OS/X with very few glitches on any super-fast (if ugly) Dell machine or any other $300 x86 clone.
Likewise, DRM is beginning to leak.
I am curious to see for how long Apple will be able to safeguard its monopolies. Restricting its content (OS/X, music, video, etc.) to run only on its own hardware platform is a GREAT idea in principle, but I have serious doubts that it is technically VIABLE in the long term.
This may turn out to be for Apple the greatest cost of its transition from PowerPC to Intel.

Ok...
Then, is there a program somewhere that while running would prevent the computer from going to sleep (rather than a standard configuration page)?

Microsoft SUCKS.
It is not like we did not know this.
Vista, and every other OS they have made SUCKS. They copy and follow. They do not lead, they are pathetic. They suck so much, I can't put it into words. They dominated because of their policies and because of Apple. The are bad and Jesus, they are going to suck for a lot longer. remember, Ballmer is the King of Innovation now at MS.
Enough said

To wipe your data and reinstall OS X: (this is what you'll want to do, so it's set up as if the new owner was buying a brand new mac)
Insert the OS X install disc
boot your mac while holding C
Go to utilities > Disk utility
Select your hard disk in the top left
go to the erase tab
choose Mac OS X Extended (Journalled) and any name you want ("Macintosh HD" is probably preferable)
security options > Zero out data (only if you're paranoid about the new owner being able to recover your data, if not don't bother)
erase
then continue the install process

I downloaded some games for my Android phone. Doesn't mean I play them. I'm sorry, but having a controller is a very serious must.
On another note not related to the above comment, I would like to read the comments from those who have never played video games on this site. Since it's something that I've been exposed to for so long, it's interesting to see how ignorant people tend to sound when they speak of things they are not familiar with.

Yeah so I ran TU and it was only able to save for 4.3. Can anyone think of a reason to jailbreak 3.2.2 and save those to Cydia before going up to 4.3? I'm trying to think of any possible reason why I'd want to go back to 3.2.2. At this point, it seems like everything 4.3 offers is better. And I have to believe that an untethered jb will happen eventually...
Jailbreaking at 3.2.2 will not let you save SHSH. Those can only be gotten from Apple. Once they stop signing the firmware, there's absolutely no way to get them anymore.

All that is really needed is for the iPad 2 4.3 to publicly Jailbroken. If someone updated to 4.3.1 thats their fault. If someone updated to 4.3.1 they are obviously new to the game.
Any idea (you, or anyone) if devices made now are now shipping with 4.3.1? I can't remember when Apple starts updating default firmware on their iOS devices, and I couldn't quickly find anything about it. I imagine at some point, Apple switches the default firmware to whatever the newest is, but maybe they only do this for major updates?

So you cant really touch the front of this thing coz it will do something...... I cant really put it in my pocket, especially if the hold button isnt physical...
There could still be a physical hold button. The drawing only shows the front face, not the top or bottom. Obviously the headphone jack and dock port will be on the top or bottom. What's the point of a hold button if it isn't physical anyway??

One interesting bit of information about T-Mobile most people are unaware of.
As TFA mentions, this press conference centered around T-Mobile's 3G plans, after they won a large amount of spectrum in the recent FCC auctions.
What's interesting is the amount of spectrum they won. They essentially won spectrum in every single US market in the USA, including Hawaii and Alaska. This makes them the first network in the US that really could, if it wanted to, cover the entire USA with their own network.
For reasons that escape me, the FCC has always subdivided the country into small areas, some as small as a county, when auctioning licenses. I think this is because the FCC is pretty convinced that cellphones are actually just a form of long range cordless phone and nobody expects them to work more than a few miles from home or something.
This time the FCC auctioned much larger areas, called REAs, overlapping a lot of much smaller areas that were also licensed, called BEAs and CMAs. T-Mobile won one of each of the REAs, the largest areas, with the exception of Alaska. They were also won a BEA which is one of the few that is large enough to cover an entire state - namely, Alaska.
I'm not saying T-Mobile will roll out a truly "works everywhere" network. The frequencies chosen for 3G are high (1750MHz downlink and 2150MHz uplink), so the whole "goes through walls" problem that T-Mobile currently suffers from (their current network is 1900MHz) isn't going to get any better. And clearly, there's little economic incentive to put a tower in the middle of a desert, whether you have a license for it or not. But certainly they have the capability now of doing so, and providing coverage everywhere, which is pretty cool.
