I thought it was dead.
The reports of it's death were greatly exaggerated, partly due to a misunderstanding about the intent of NeoOffice.
Hmm, blatant misrepresentation and sensationalism on Slashdot, whould'a thunk
Basically the developers had said that the Aqua native version was not going to be under active development, because they didn't have the resources and thought NeoOffice was the way to go. The X11 version was always being worked on.
I think the NeoOffice developers (both of them! Have to give those two a huge amount of thanks for what they've done), have since worked something out to make sure an Aqua native version is not permanently shelved either.

I have to disagree with this comment, its not the Iphone man is USA's Networks. over here in england i have had no dropped calls (not a single one) beit the Iphone 3GS, 3G or 4 not a single dropped call and i am sure the majority of Iphone users here would state this.
I can confirm this.
I have many friends with iPhone 4's, all on different carriers here in canada and none of us have experienced a dropped call, only I have which was because the proximity had me end the call, but that was fixed since 4.2.1.

Is there an easy way in R to change the variables in a column, say 'blue' 'red' and 'green' to 1, 2, and 3?
Thanks,

Steve said in the CNBC interview post-keynote:
(loosely quoted) "I serve at the pleasure of the board of directors and the stockholders, and as long as they are happy with the job I'm doing, I'd love to keep doing this job."
To me, that doesn't sound like he's going anywhere anytime soon.

But this (http://www.ft.com/cms/s/8fb970f6-556d-11db-acba-0000779e2340.html) is the speech, and it contains ONE mention of Apple. I mean, the way the news reports were worded, you'd think that he was saying rather more than mentioning it in passing.
All he says is that Leopard has a pretty good email client (he's talking about the richness of email in the future, and is obviously impressed with what Steve Jobs has thus-far demonstrated.)
He also mentions Geico Insurance, FedEx, and Marriot hotels. And YouTube, and MySpace. And Verizon.
This is a non-story.
For those too lazy to click the link, here's what he has to say:
Third, the high bandwidth potential of 3G will be utilized to take consumer-based PC functionality mobile. The Web N Walk services we see in Europe today is a precursor of the even larger opportunity in the U.S. market given broadband penetration and usage which has exploded over the past 24 months. A further example of untapped opportunity is mobile consumer e-mail. Today, only 5% of current consumer e-mail is being accessed in a mobile environment. And as can be seen with Apples new Leopard operating system the richness of e-mail communications is just beginning to discover elements beyond the printed word moving to dynamic and personally tailored image-rich communications.
That's it. That's the only mention of Apple. That single sentence in one paragraph.
WHY is this on Page 1?

Ah, I think this is the issue I'm having! I also want to jailbreak and unlock. Does anyone know where I'd find the iPad baseband files for a 3GS on 4.3.2 running 05.16.02? Thanks in advance!

Anyone with experience with this product?
I have a G5 that is functioning in a room without a cable hookup. I purchased a Rosewill RNX-N2X USB Wireless Adapter (http://www.rosewill.com/products/1120/productDetail.htm) to connect to my G5 to my wireless router. The install seemed to go well. I setup a profile, entered by password, and the The Rosewill Utility says I have a connection to my router however, in my Mac Network System Preferences page, the USB connection says "USB Ethernet (en1) has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect". Indeed, I am not connected. I have selected Configure using DHCP.
I have read the manual which is not helpful. I plan on calling Rosewill tech support later, but thought I would throw this question out in the meantime hoping to get some easy configuration adjustment advice. Thanks!

That would be a little difficult for me- I only have the one and I dont think anyone would lend me their computer for a jailbreak- people are paranoid. Do you really think my MBP is the problem?

Hi, I'm doing some research into the 10.6 OS I've come across two pieces of seemingly conflicting documentation.
In the Network Services Admin 10.6 PDF (http://images.apple.com/server/macosx/docs/Network_Services_Admin_v10.6.pdf) on pages 23-24 I'm reading "Mac OS X Server uses the xinetd process to manage many UNIX network services, such as FTP, finger, and so on. xinetd listens for requests on specific TCP/IP sockets and is a secure replacement for inetd. However, because xinetd does not handle RPC services well, inetd and xinetd are included with Mac OS X."
But Apple TN2083 (http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#technotes/tn2005/tn2083.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/DTS10003794) says "Starting with Mac OS X 10.4, inetd and xinetd daemons are deprecated in favor of launchd daemons; a launchd daemon can specify a list of TCP and UDP ports to listen on as part of its property list file. Starting with Mac OS X 10.5, inetd and xinetd daemons are no longer supported. However, it's easy to run an existing inetd or xinetd daemon by creating and installing a simple launchd property list file (resulting in an inetd-compatible launchd daemon). For an example of this, check out /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/finger.plist."
Can anybody shed some light on this? I have a feeling the TN is correct, but it would make me sad to find out that Apple's own server documentation is out of date. I'd attempt to poke around in the system myself, but sadly I can't afford a copy of 10.6 server. Lion can't come fast enough!
Thanks in advance for any info anybody can provide.

Well it's 29 online so I'm taking this back tomorrow and re-ordering it online.
Whats absolutely great is I get to play this for hours and scratch it down to "research". I mean these graphics are absolutely inspiring. And the co-op is second only to Streets of Rage 2, which really needs the VC treatment.

When the first plane hit, I was shaving in my bathroom. As soon as it was on CNN, my roommate yelled for me to look at the news. When the reports of the second plane hit, I was standing naked in my bedroom, dripping wet, razor in hand. Then I called British Airways to find out what the deal was (I was supposed to be on a plane out of Atlanta to Edinburgh at 6:30). At the time, the airports had only been closed until 5:00, and I was told my flight was still on, and to go ahead and hop in the car and drive for 3 hours. Drove to Atlanta, turned around, came back. Made about a dozen phone calls to let everyone know I was still in country and alive and well. Rescheduled the trip for the following Tuesday, and spent the next two weeks trying to hide my American accent in the UK.

Apple displays will have to be updated before the end of the year to keep their promise of eliminating harmful chemicals etc. for Greenpeace's sake. When I don't know, I would think either very soon 1 month or late summer.
I expect them at either NAB in April or WWDC. I imagine they will be MUCH thinner than they are now, and will likely have an isight built-in and maybe HDMI. The 24" will probably replace the 23." Outside of that I do not expect much from Apple in the display department. Should be interesting to see if Apple goes with the Glossy Displays (or maybe will make both and give customers an option).

I might line up at Laval.
Anyone have info on if we can buy just the phone, without a plan, and then jailbreak it so it can use my current rogers plan? iPhone plans are gonna be nuts. I want to be able to just go in and buy it, without signing up for rogers.
Also, is there a limit on how many we can buy? My dad wants one, so I would be buying two...
and can they be payed for with a bank card?

my 3GS is having more and more issues. battery life goes down, touchscreen is getting less responsive/less precise. I hope it holds up for a while.
If not I can get either:
- the rumored white iPhone 4 end of April
- the rumored iPhone 5 end of September
- the rumored iPhone 6 in 2012
nice, every few month a rumored replacement for my 3GS:rolleyes:
That's not your phone. It's the crappy 4.3.xx software!

Hey all, I currently live in Japan, and would like to get some experiences working at Apple. I haven't decided which floor I would like to work at, but it will most likely be the Genius Bar.
Now, to get in to my main point, is it possible to work at the Apple Store under the age of 18? I have no idea about the labor laws, work permit, and things like that, but I just to make sure. I saw on other thread that in state of Nevada, a person should be above the age of 16 to get a job.
BTW, I'm 17 currently.
Directly from the Labor Standards Laws:
(Minimum Age)
Article 56. An employer shall not employ children
until the first 31st of March following their having fully
reached the age of 15 years.
2. Notwithstanding the provisions of the preceding
paragraph, outside of school hours, children above 13 full
years of age maybe employed in occupations in enterprises
other than those listed in items 1 through 5 of Annexed
Table No. 1, and which involve light labor that is not
harmful to the health and welfare of the children, with the
permission of the administrative office. The same shall
apply to children under 13 full years of age employed in
motion picture production and theatrical performance
enterprises.

Well, I'm a new Mac user and have never used Safari as my main browser, however, I'm starting to like it and hate at the same time. This is where I start to ask my questions.
1.) Is it possible to search Google from the address bar in Safari like how it is in Chrome? If so, how?
2.) Is it possible to remove the Google search search bar on the top right of Safari? If so, how?
3.) What are Keychains?
4.) Is it possible to make the tabs in safari have a bigger "x" so that they're easier to close? If so, how?
5.) Is it possible to move the new tab button right next to the last currently open tab? If so, how?
Thanks in advance!
I love Safari, but the one thing I REALLY hate is no searching from the address bar. Coming from Chrome, I finally realize how much I use it and I cannot switch from Chrome to Safari if this isn't possible.
Thanks in advance! :)

I think there is a good chance IBM will supply the G4 for Apple at some point. There may be contracts with Motorola we don't know about, so who knows when it would happen? Since IBM will have their 0.09 process working next year, a G4 from them may go over 2 GHz. :)
Motorola is also to be getting 0.09 with their new partnership or whatever it is. But that is Motorola. Likely Apple's chips will be the last to go 0.09, if ever. :(
So IBM may be the Mac's brightest hope for the PPC chip family.
