Finder:
- Have an address bar so I can copy and paste file locations. Really useful to a developer, especially with working between the Finder and Terminal.
- Have a way of seeing how much disk space directories and their children take up, both with number sizes and graphically.
- Stop freaking putting every downloaded file in the bottom right of my Desktop, on top of the last downloaded file. Put the icon anywhere else on the free half of my Desktop.
- If I empty the trash, I expect to see that volume's space taken or available value update right away for its icon, on the Desktop.
- Tabbed Finder windows?
I'm with you all the way on this.
On the download, right-click yr desktop and click keep arranged by ...whatever you like... to prevent from the downloads stacking up eachother

You couldn't even spare $10 to $15 per year? I certainly wouldn't recommend using free hosting.

just for the record, this link has been submitted around 10 times now, but I've been on the whole unimpressed by the desktops so far. Maybe by offering the link and getting some new blood in there, it will liven up.

People are getting way to desperate and inpatient for the iPad 2 JB. My only regret is I didn't hold on to my first gen, but hey, what are you going to do?

I don't remember the paper, but my friend gets it delivered in Draper.
It said you guys were up playing games on a projector and smoking meat or something. Sounded like a pretty good time lol.
I showed up at 4:15PM and was behind about 900+ people!
I'd like to read that if anyone can find it.
Ya some guys brought a big party tent and had two projectors in it. One had XBOX 360 and the other Sportscenter. They also brought a barbecue and made everyone pork and bacon and other stuff. They were awesome.
I'm guessing you didn't get an iPad that day, correct?

Hi
Sorry this is a rookie problem
When I upload my site using dw it uses the original images and file locations rather than the server relative addresses like this :
<title>Untitled Document</title>
<link href="file:///Macintosh HD/Users/David/commissions/currentwork/finals for colin debug/htmldream/style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">
<script type="text/JavaScript">
<!--
Is there a preference or something I should be pressing ??
Thanks
David
hi david
I made similar mistakes when I first started using dreamweaver, and it was all because I neglected to read the manual...
Dreamweaver works best when you plan your site from the ground up, in other words you really need to have your site structure fairly sorted before you start working. What you need to do is use the site manager- it's in the 'Files' tab on the right hand side of the screen. Click the combo box on the left and select 'manage sites'. You will then be presented with a wizard that helps you set up your site. You should already know what your root folder is, your default images folder etc. Once you've got all this set up, dreamweaver knows where all the images and links contained in your site should point to, and if they don't match, or your try to link to an image contained outside of the root of your site, it will tell you and ask if you want to move into the correct folder.
This is a bit of a vague explanation because you're better off reading the help files to be honest. I know it's boring but the key to successful and problem-free web design is organisation.
Hope this is some help.

The startup screen used to cause delays for some of my clients. Disable the startup menu. Click "Dont Show Again" on it if it finally loads. Try relaunching it after that.

Are you sure the X800 had anything to do with it? Because I have one and have no problems putting my computer to sleep.
--Eric
Yes I am sure it's the card. I think mine is faulty. There was a sleep issue problem with the card, however. There's been several ROM updates that have aimed to fixed the problem. Unfortunately, nothing has worked on mine.

Ok so heres the deal I have a 2010 Macbook, with Windows XP installed through parallels and Windows cannot recognize my disk drive on my Macbook. Is there anyway for me to make it recognize it. Well frankly I don't know if its recognizing it or not... I tried to play a game for windows using it and when I started the game it said please insert disc. So I took the disc out and put it back in. Still nothing, any help?
In Parallels as well as any other virtual machine software, you have to tell it to assign the disk to the VM. That process should be in the help screens or manual. I don't use Parallels, but use VMware and VirtualBox. They all have that function.

Ah, but YOU'RE missing the point completely. As resolutions inscrease the interface can scale up because it is resolution independent in 10.5. Web pages are NOT resolution independent for the most part. Photos, graphics, interfaces are not. So, when you're looking at your killter 3000x2000 monitor yes your icons and OS interface can scale up and your photos will look very crisp BECAUSE they are vector or have extra resolution to draw from. Websites on the other hand will be fixed at 800x600 or whatever and unless you want them to be miniscule on your screen as they are shown pixel for pixel, they will have to be blown up in some way.
So the res independence IS a good thing and just fine UNTIL the monitor resolutions go through the roof for the same physical screen sizes.
There are too many things outthere that are desinged WITHOUT the independence. Icons inside nearly every application for example. All kinds of stuff. My guess is that this won't affect too much too quickly. It just addresses some issues with the current interface on high screen monitors.
There is no reason that internet images can't scale right along with everything else. Just because something is bitmapped doesn't mean it can't scale nicely. There are a million decent algorythms for scaling bitmapped images.
If an image is designed to look nice with a 72 dpi resolution and your monitor is at 144 dpi, then the image will be the identical size, shape and appearance as a 72 dpi monitor when the image is scaled 2 to 1 on the 144 dpi monitor.
Where is the problem? The resolution independence will come from the browser rendering not from the website design. In otherwords, if a user scales safari up on a high-res monitor then the contents will scale as well regardless of what the contents are, bitmap image, vector image, etc.

thanks.
the guide is definitively one of my favourite books. I've read it nth times but it always cracks me up.
I don't have the dvd set. is it worth getting?
The DVD set is an absolute must for h2g2 fans. It has the six TV episodes on one disc (3 of which are longer than the original broadcasts) with a choice of original or remastered soundtracks, and a bunch of extras on the second disc plus there are some easter eggs if you can crack the cryptic clues.
I would also recommend the 8 disc Collectors CD Set with the entire radio series and audio documentaries etc.
Just time to go through them all again before the new film comes out. I do hope it won't be a disappointment.

Just realized: it should be 5378008
By 'upside down' he means rotated 180 degrees, as if it was typed on a calculator display which was then viewed upside down.

and to the other guy: What does MR mean?
MR is MacRumors
The last Apple ads that I liked were the Think Different ads with Alfred Hitchcock & Co. And before that, the Charles Chaplin ads. That tells me a lot about how much Apple changed and with them their target audience.
Very true. The Think Different were great when Apple wanted to appeal to a niche market, then the iPod + iTunes ads were great when they wanted to build the iPod brand name (if you notice you don't really find out anything about the iPod in that ad, and it takes a little intuition to even realize that it's an mp3 player).
The main focus of their ads now is iPhone and iPad because they can appeal to the largest audience, and the most likely people to switch from PC to Mac on their home computers are people who have bought an Apple accessory (really anything with an i before the name) and have become familiar with the Apple brand.

Does anyone else have the problem that their iPod doesn't sync properly with iCal? I'm running Panther with a 4G iPod and up until recently it had all the days out by one. It changed about a week ago (when I reformatted my iPod) but now everything is running half an hour earlier than it should.
I've had a look around on the forums but I can't find anything like this. Is it just me?
Any help would be hugely appreciated because this is quite annoying. :(
