What can we expect for price ranges, is the yonah going to be more expensive for apple to buy and integrate than the ppc?
And I would assume there would be a jump in prices to begin with, being a new- top of the line product. Or am I crazy..

VPC for the PowerPC was a sluggish piece. M$, if they can't steal it, they buy it or they GIVE UP. They do not have one person working at M$ that can develope technology.

Nice, I'm digging the look.
I also would like to see some branding though.
Good job, it looks like a cool program.

I applaud Johansen :)
Me too. I hope he does the same to Microsoft's DRM now. Force them, Apple and all the other providers to come up with and support a common DRM standard that no single company owns.
No vendor lock in and no more Mac marginalisation. Great!! :)

Unless you're totally psycho with your expectations (Powerbook won't make your teeth whiter or you armpits smell better) you'll love it. If you've used Windows for any length of time you'll love it that much more. It really is all they say it is, but you don't really know how good it is until you have one. Unfortunately you can't market them that way: "trust is it's good, buy one and you'll see."

I'm a graphic designer and I have a great need for a beautiful, fully featured display. I read on the Buying Buide that it's approaching the end of a cycle, but I'm not really sure what's behind that. Would anyone care to shed some light on the reasons for waiting to buy one? Any rumors I should know about?
Thanks,
Chris

I don't think that people here will clue you in as to how to pirate a piece of software.
;)
I have heard a lot of great things about Audacity, although I've never tried it....
Tom, I understand your frustration, but I guess, I'm not sure why you would expect that every Mac come with exactly the same software complement.... it isn't true anywhere else in the computer industry. Sorry. :(

My first-gen :apple:TV streams Apple Lossless 24-bit 96kHz files from iTunes through the digital port to my Harmon Kardon amplifier just fine. The HK would recognize them as 96kHz too (but didn't display the number of bits it was receiving). It sounds GREAT!

Never considered one until I used my friend's 13" he just got, but once a real processor is adopted, I think I'm gonna get one. Love the speed the SSD brings, just not once you need to do anything remotely processor intensive. If they put like an i3 or i5 Sandy Bridge in I'm all over that (preferably i5 if the form factor could accommodate it, idk the power usage/heat factor off the top of my head).

I've had T-Mob for three years now, and several benefits are: 1 year contracts, free phone upgrades after a year, GSM technology, unlocked phones on request after a year, overseas roaming, very competitive plans, including family plans, good major market coverage, all-local-all-the-time calls (no roaming, no long distance,) $.05/minute calls to Mexico and Canada - that's cheap, folks! And, voice transmission quality with my Moto V190/V360 series phones has been crystal clear with 1 bar or more signal strength. On the customer service side... other than the stupid initial computer generated person you have to get past, once you're dealing with a real person I find the service to be 1st class, and I've had a few discussions at length with extremely knowledgeable and informally pleasant cust. serv. agents.
Of course, in rural areas, the service is definately more spotty, and at times non-available... but I just wait a few minutes and I'm usually back in range. Somebody said the voice mail at T-Mob wasn't customizable, whatever that means..?? but certainly you can change and record your own message just like with any other service, and I see no difference there.
On the towers, well, T-Mob builds their own towers, and has some kind of mutual agreement with Cingular (formerly AT&T GSM) to use their towers for roaming, and vice versa. Fairly invisible to end users. In fact, I submitted our property on the Oregon coast to t-mobilelandlords.com for consideration as a new tower location. Bottom line: other than the lesser coverage areas compared to Verizon, there's not a thing wrong with my servicel, or the phones they provide. And with my two older phones, when I'm going out to do something physically risky, I just slip my SIM card out of my new phone, and put it in my older Nokia in case it falls in the river. All my phone numbers are duplicated on my new phone's internal memory as well as the SIM, so it's nice having a spare/backup couple of phones in the drawer. Try that with CDMA.
By the way, if you see more 11 yr olds w/ T-Mob phones, it's probably because their parents saw it as a cheaper family plan alternative to the competition. I doubt the kids made the decisions. Can you hear me now?
Now, come on Apple. I'm waiting!

I'd like to go for iskin.com (as I did for the previous generations).
but here is what they replied to my email:
seems like they won't make them too soon availiable...
have to pick another one... hints welcome ;)
are any cases availiable, yet?
There are already a few companies taking pre-orders or at the very least have the pages up with cases announced. I now "CaseMate" has two cases up (no pictures nor pre-order) and Griffin Technology announced that their cases would start shipping "Late-Fall" with photos (or at least mock photos) of about 5 cases for the Touch (http://blog.griffintechnology.com/archives/were-getting-ready-to-wrap-your-new-ipod).
Correction: Griffin's still start shipping "Early-Fall" and are up for pre-order.

That's all fine and well, but I just want a version that doesn't require X11 and can print.
It can't print?! I knew it was limited, but really...an office suite that can't print isn't much use, now is it?

Guess what... I already have to get my PB repaired. Yay ! :(
Basically I have an iffy keyboard... It sucks. The tab button is obnoxiously loud and my "I" fails to respond if pressed in the wrong angle and my right arrow is ever-so-slightly above the rest of the other keys. Also my PB fails to play audio from its speakers if headphones are inserted, then removed. I have to half-insert, and remove the headphones to get my audio back... Ugh...
I plan to go to the SF Apple store in person.
So the questions:
Will Apple repair it on the spot?
If they have to send it back, how long would that take? And would I have to pick it back up in person, or do I have to go there?
Is the faulty headphone port attatched to the logic board? If so, would this mean a that I'd need to get another one? I don't like the idea of getting a refurbished board... So I hope not.
Would these issues warrent an entire HD backup?
If so, my other computer is a PC, with 128GB free (It has 2 HDs, one is 80GB (50 GB free), and the other is 200GB, 128 free [Slave drive]). This means its formatted as NTFS... How would I go about backing up my entire Mac HD?
I can't believe I already have to go through this. I got my PB around the end of may...
Thanks
EDIT: I think I put this in the wrong place... Sorry mods, feel free to move it to its appropriate spot.

Looked at MacBook air last week. First time hands on. It is a work of art.
Yep, it is beautiful and now cheaper. Flash memory is great for that kind of device. No wonder it is selling more. I've seen more or the new airs than any of the old ones.

does it look crappy like that while you are working in word, or on the finished product? i would assume that word likes to display graphics with a little less quality than what you actually put into them. if you are talking about the finished product, then perhaps you should type your "reports, etc" in word and then get your hands on indesign and put all of your text into there.

Wonder if he rushed the iTV announcement because the iPod 5G still has a small screen...no full screen with virtual wheel as the so-called rumors kept hinting at for months..
