they're not using a hack. They're using actual access to the Apple database (which is why the unlock happens through iTunes)
I wonder how these companies got access to Apple's database. Why doesn't Apple keep better watch on it? And couldn't Apple just find out who's been accessing the database, and not allow connections from that source anymore? This all seems shady to me.

i'd picture a 60, 80, 120 GB HD line, with the RAM being 256, 512, 512.
i really dont see Apple maxing out the RAM as a base config.

Anyone heard whether the jailbreak Comex was working on was patched by 4.3.1, or was that just speculation that it would patch the exploit?
Confirmed that the exploit was patched in 4.3.1:

So I would love some great 1440x900 wallpapers of Japan (country and temples mostly, city stuff would be nice as well though) but all I can find are the few on interfacelift.
Anybody have a good one?
Thanks : )

I just joined MacRumor's seti@home team.
I had communication problems when I tried to connect to folding@home,
but when I have a few minutes, I'll give it another try.
When it works, the Verizon NationalAccess cardbus card is great!
Original core duo mac mini, powerbook g4 (1.67Ghz). Someday I'll load the boinc client on my dual core G5, emac G4, and G4 mini. But not today.

lol 1 last question is is it 1 cable or do i have to buy the adapter? i looked online for just one cable but i keep getting the adapter instead of 1 cord. but my guess is that you have a regular optical cord then plug the 1 end into the adapter? :S
It is one cable, as shown here:

I'm not aware of any income "tax" on your accumulated wealth. Any such tax would not be an "income" tax.
The only thing you've succeeded in doing is proving that it's YOU who knows nothing about taxation. How about I list just ONE tax on accumulated wealth?

That would be cool, but there could be a hitch: A lot of those lyric sites get shut down, because you're supposed to license the lyrics from the publishing company in order to be able to use them. So this could cost Apple a lot of money in the long run.
Lee TomMaybe Apple would only have to pay if it showed you the full lyrics. If, instead, it let you type in a portion of the lyrics and then showed you songs that match (not the lyrics of those songs), it wouldn't involve royalties. I'm not sure how they get the lyrics in the first place, though.
Also, if the Music Store sold more songs because of the new "lyric database" feature, they could let you download the lyrics for any song you purchased (sort of like album art), pay a royalty, and maybe still come out ahead because of the increased sales.
What percentage of tunes have "official" lyrics of some kind, i.e., published by the artist or label instead of by fans who might guess or might transcribe them incorrectly?

The advantage it that it's the closes thing to an Apple console out there. It might not have the same games as the X Box and PS3, but it's like an Apple console. How cool is that. It's like the spending the whole day playing an Apple console. The thought should get your bacon sizzling.
Are you being facetious?
Honestly, just the fact that Apple made it does not make it any better of an experience. Yes, I do prefer Macs to PCs. But that's cause how the OS works and even some of the implementation of hardware. It being made by Apple just happens to be made by Apple. And the reason I like a lot of Apple things isn't cause they made it, but because they did a good job making it.
But no, it being an apple product does not let it coast on not being just as good or better as something else. It actually has to be just as good or better.
I keep seeing percentages but never the raw numbers. iOS and Android may be increasing their market share but is the market just increasing as far as the number of users? I would guess that iOS and Android aren't leeching customers from traditional handhelds so much as expanding the user base overall and their market share is increasing because that increased user base is only coming from those devices and not from the traditional handhelds (ie DS, PSP, etc.)
Interesting question. But, I think for your argument to work we'd also have to see if the market for handhelds is increasing. For iOS and android not to be taking some sales from other handhelds and still increase in amount of people playing the market itself would have to get bigger (basically they'd be adding to the market people who weren't in the market before).
Plus I'll add the idea that they are increasing in market*share* means that they are an increasing percentage of the overall market for hand helds. Even if that is because they are bringing in new people to the market, most likely that also means Nintendo and Sony are not and just getting the same customers for iOS and Android to be getting more percentage of the marketshare.

Sorry to bump, but couldnt anyone help me?? someone must have tried RAM with heatsinks on there mac mini...The problem is so much RAM these days ships with the heatsinks fitted,
SHadOW
Three answers:
1) Don't do it, there isn't room physically
2) Any RAM you are considering buying with heatsinks is, by definition, not RAM sold with a guarantee of Mac compatibility. No Mac RAM is sold with heatspreaders. Buy from a reputable dealer who guarantees compatibility with the Mini. Don't put in random PC memory.
3) If you already have a piece of RAM that you are bound and determined to try then just take off the heat spreader - it's like, a $2 piece of aluminum held on by two spring clips...

11" MBA... $1000...
You didn't expect this?
I was a buyer within the first week... I absolutely utilize the heck out of it with work & everything else. Only thing I wish they had on it - would be a backlit keyboard. Besides that, I am more than happy with everything - CPU, GPU, 4GB of RAM, and the battery life is great!
I was looking for this years back... next item I am looking for is Apple to start putting dedicated powerful GPU's in the MacBook Pro 13".

As with all Apple computers purchased just before the release of a new OS, a drop in disk will be found in older models still on shelves after the release and you will be given an opportunity to get a free or severely discounted copy of the new OS if purchased in Apple's determined timeframe. I bought a Mac Mini about 30 days before Snow Leopard came out and was able to get SL for free.

Seriously, all you folks who are saying this and that about the bezel control (i.e. Every time I touch it I'll adjust the volume, or change my ringtone... blah, blah...), do you really think Apple would release it's "next big thing" without making sure it worked perfectly, intuitively, and didn't just go completely haywire every time you touch it or bump it?
For crying out loud, the company's future depends in no small part on the iPod, I'm fairly certain Apple's going to make sure each successive iPod is as innovative and market-dominating as the rest of the line has been. THat includes ease-of-use.
Have a little faith, here. You see one patent filing and freak out. Sheesh.
I agree with you.
Whatever Apple's introduce will be clever and easy to use. Remember that's their core philosophy, That's why I am not worrying too much.
I am skeptical of this patent. I believe Apple did patent the above, but they do that all the time to protect their ideas. That doesn't mean it's going to be the final product like that.
The only thing I can certain say is that the video iPod will be here soon. I hope before xmas. If not then at MWSF.

I have to agree with The Tuck that the many out-of-contract iPhones will need another out, if AT&T doesn't unlock their iPhones. Though expensive, it eliminates the need to jailbreak...

Well, it's been three years since I started at Al Jazeera English here in DC and it's been a fun ride. I've been around the world 4 times, skiied in the Swiss Alps, been shot at in Mumbai, explored Istanbul, Kuala Lumpur, laid on the beaches of Punta Cana and Langkawi, and so much more. Unfortunately my show ends next week, and the show that I had pitched to replace it, named, and got the ball rolling for development on combined the position they promised me with another position and gave that to my best friend.
So why am I so happy? The last year I've done nothing but sit in my edit bay for 7 out of my 8 hour shift and do nothing. Our budgets were cut so we couldn't take any trips like we used to, and the show just lost steam. Oh well...I got 4 months pay out of them and can go back and freelance for them in 6 months and charge them double, and freelance for other clients in the meantime. I also still have my weekly show that I do on the side for AJE so I'm feeling pretty damn good about the whole situation! Guys at work told me they wish they could be in my position since they hate their jobs and are bored out of their mind, but can't quit because they don't get a severance.
Just had to vent, looking very much forward to the life of a freelancer and finally...a documentary filmmaker!

It is my understanding that the jailbreak from Comex used proprietary Apple code that would have landed him in legal trouble if it was released to the public. This hole was patched in iOS 4.3.1. While I haven't heard any news about others working on the jailbreak, I'm sure that there is work being done.
