Well I can't honestly say I didn't see this one coming, I think everyone had the feeling VPC was dead from sometime now.

I bought the origianal Bose SoundDock when it was first released and have Been in love with it ever since. I also bought the Bose Companions and love them just as much. If I were you I would try and eventually purchase both, you won't regret it. But buy the companion speakers first. That way you have the Bose quality for you music plus films and gaming. Then when the funds are available treat yourself to the SoundDock!

Ok...
Then, is there a program somewhere that while running would prevent the computer from going to sleep (rather than a standard configuration page)?

There's no reason to run Garageband on a secondary drive, unless of course you're taking a performance hit due to a drive filling up.
But back everything up, multiple copies of .aiff's, .aac's and especially .band's.

No, just freezes. I did get some weird lines once a couple of days ago when I slept the computer. The lines just appeared for about 1 second as it went down.

Sounds like they will be getting rid of appliances and other things that are not selling well.
Reducing store size means lower heating and lighting costs; halogen lights do cost rather a lot to use.
If they can't sell, they'll whittle down everything else and still make a big grin and say "Big profits, come here shareholders!"

Looks like a good time was had by all. Sorry I wasn't able to stop by this year... MacWorld has fallen on an especially busy work week for me. If I'm lucky, I just might be able to get away for a couple of hours this morning to visit the Expo floor. :(

The option you want is out there and legally available--it's just that CDs are a "bad value."
I don't know what CD prices are like in the US, but here in the UK they are far from "bad value" compared to tracks on iTunes.
Most new CDs can be picked up for around 8 at the major supermarkets or online from places like play.com or cdwow.com. For this 8 I get a physical item (complete with inlay) that I can keep forever. I put it in my Mac, rip it to iTunes and I _also_ get a DRM-free mp3 version at any bit rate I require. Should I choose to ditch my iPod at some point in the future and move to a rival player, my ripped tunes will still work. And if they don't, I have the physical CD to fall back on.
For the same money on iTunes I get nothing more than a file on my Mac whose lifespan is subject to the whim of the hardware I use and the company that oversees it. I'm locked in to iPod.
CDs don't seem to be bad value to me.

The Macbook Air is GREAT product, BUT you really have to observe yourself and think will you every need a bright display, backlit keys, or fast processing(i kno the apps load FAST but exporting iMovie takes a LONG time)... if you can do without those things and NEVER will need them... GO for the MBA... if not.... user your $1000-$1500 elsewhere... thats a lot of money

Everyone who pays you doesn't withhold Social Security. Only if you're an official employee. How is it withheld from your ebay or other income profits or if you're freelance? You have to turn in quarterly returns if you're freelance. When you sell items you pay on your profit minus expenses. How many people file when they sell something on ebay. Do they go by the amount you sell or every transaction? I am sure ebay could set up a system to track sales.

I expect them at either NAB in April or WWDC. I imagine they will be MUCH thinner than they are now, and will likely have an isight built-in and maybe HDMI. The 24" will probably replace the 23." Outside of that I do not expect much from Apple in the display department. Should be interesting to see if Apple goes with the Glossy Displays (or maybe will make both and give customers an option).
If I were a betting man, I'd bet on new displays (or at least a price drop) at NAB. ;)

I didn't say I supported AllofMP3's way to do their shady business, I meant that legal downloading should be modelled like AllofMP3 AND that the artists should get paid.
If only we live in the perfect world, every business is out there for it's own interest - Jon, Record Company and AllofMP3 included. time to wake up and smell the coffee guys!

PHPStorm from JetBrains has integrated JavaScript debugging. It comes with a web browser plugin for debugging on top of the visual debugger already built in.

I don't know anything about ATA passwords, but one of the expected new features of Lion is whole disk encryption. You might as well wait for that and get it free with the OS and supported by Apple.
I'm aware, but that is months away, and who knows how long it will take for this Filevault re-write to be stable. Since I'm operating as a consultant, I can't necessarily wait for that.
So... no one knows if this is possible?

I'm sure you don't want to hear this, but I think you're better off with an iMac or a mac mini with a nice IPS monitor. I understand that the mac pro is easier to expand, but if you plan on keeping it for 4 years you could buy a new mac mini every year and still come out the same.
Better to spend money on upgraded lenses and external backups.

I still can't believe you lot in the USA have gone for yet another incompatible-with-the-rest-of-the-world frequency for your 3G network meaning that anyone coming to the USA won't be able to use your 3G network and your 3G iPhones will be about as useful as a one legged dog outside the USA.
I'm amazed at the news too. One of the things T-Mobile had going for it is they were one of only two large providers (with Cingular) in the US that used an international standard. It's sad to see them switch away from it.
