If you just want a PPC to play with, get a powermac, they are very cheap. In my opinion, G4 laptops are way over priced, unless you get lucky, like I did with my iBook. I also bought a Powermac 933 mgz Quicksilver, with Leopard installed for only $50.

I just bought a Tibook from the Apple Retail Store on the 19th and I have just noticed that I have a stuck/dead pixel. It is on the far left side of the screen and it is green in color. The good part is that it is virually invisable, unless that part of the screen is black. However, it is very annoying when say I'm watching a DVD or I'm watching a slide show of my picutes in iPhoto. This notebook is not even a week old. What should I do? Should I go back to the store and demand a replacement? Would they even give me one? I think that the minimum number of pixels that would fall under warrenty is like 6 or 7 right? But this thing is brand new....shouldn't there be a speacial case for defective products that are brand new? I mean what would stop me from just returning it at the Apple store, and then just reordering it from the online store?? With that logic, shouldn't they just give me a straight up trade if they sold me a defective product??

Freaking awesome. One of my favorite Mac sites does a redesign. XHTML and CSS too. I'm all for the standards compliance. I'm speechless.

Ok since AT&T is cracking down on free tethering via MyWi, Pdanet, or TetherMe, Developers are trying to be stealthy about it.
The way you can test if these apps are hidden from AT&T is to actually purchase the metered tethering plan for one month
Then install PdaNet and see if it shows up on your bill.

The replacement hard drive is probably blank. You need to install Mac OS X onto the replacement drive before it can run. If you are sure there is a proper OS on the drive, hold down the Option key at boot and select the replacement drive if it appears.

Uhm... "Dock, The" just looks weird (and meaningless) to me. Better to just drop the "The" completely then.

IMPO This is a load of crap. The reason why iPOD works so well is because it does have limitations (not many). The next thing you know, everybody can create an "iTUNES store", requiring you to upgrade the firmware, software, etc. on your iPOD, computer, and whatever else you have attached to your "system".
When your iPOD stops working or seems bogged down, who gets the blame? APPLE, it's a crock.
As a high school music teacher (band and guitar) I see a lot of iPODs throughout the day. A student tells me he downloaded some bootleg copy of a Paul McCartney song from Limewire (which I don't use- I don't work for free, neither did my parents, neither should musicians), and when he goes to play it, it freezes and resets. OF COURSE, the kid blames APPLE. It's not the corrupted file he dropped into his iPOD.
Point being... it's an Apples product, they give the tech support. They shouldn't have to support every DRM on the market. EVEN IF IT GIVES ME MORE CHOICE, it's a huge step backwards.
Quality control... where's big brother when you need him. :D
There is a reason you can't put Chevy parts into a BMW.

What I don't understand is there is a perfectly good 4.3.0 exploit for the iPad 2. Why the hell can't comex simply release it for those of us who didn't upgrade?
I agree! I'm still running 4.3.0!

I'd like to read that if anyone can find it.
Ya some guys brought a big party tent and had two projectors in it. One had XBOX 360 and the other Sportscenter. They also brought a barbecue and made everyone pork and bacon and other stuff. They were awesome.
I'm guessing you didn't get an iPad that day, correct?
I did get one! I was one of the last people. Maybe 50 people behind me by the time I got up there.
I got the Black 32GB Wifi. They ran out of about half the models by the time I got there. This model was my seconds choice, but it's an upgrade from the 16GB Black Wifi model that I was planning to get :D

Yes I would upgrade. I had the 13 inch for a week...brought it back for the 15 only because I needed a better graphics card. It is a fast little computer and I much prefered it over the 15 I have now, because of how lightweight it was. Buy somewhere with a good return policy if you aren't sure. Best Buy or some place like that. They gave me two weeks to return it for a refund. Good luck, whatever you decide. Keep us posted. :)

My desktop G4 1Ghz DP 512MB RAM has a superdrive which started being funny in an unfunny kind of way. First the eject key on the keyboard wouldn't eject disks. Then when I couldn't open it to put disks in, Apple System Profiler didn't reckon it was there.
I ran Silverlining Pro which said that there was a drive there but no driver...I downloaded the superdrive update from Apple's website but got the message that "this computer does not need this". Now System Profiler recognizes it, and Silverlining Pro recognizes it as:
Bus 0: Internal ATA Bus
CD ROM 0: Empty - Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-104
Version: 0000
Name of installed driver: .ATADisk (v6.1)
reference number of driver: -69
Sorry if this is too much info, but people always need info to help, don't they?!
I have just noticed that the main hard drive is on internal ATA 2 and is ID 0, and the DVD-R is on Internal ATA 0 and is also ID 0.
Shouldn't devices have different ID numbers? Is this the problem? If so can someone please advise me how to sort it out?
Toast Titanium also doesn't find the superdrive when it scans.
I also have an Adaptec SCSI card which has a small Lacie external HDD and a generic CDRW drive on it. These have been there for ages and never any problems before. There is a USB hub with usual peripherals and a MOTU 828 audio interface via firewire.
Thanks!

No Bootcamp doesn't work like that; it's either OS X or Windows. If you want to run both, you need to use a virtual machine such as VMWare Fusion or Parallels. Windows 7 is the OS of choice between XP and 7. Probably the Home version of 7 would be all you need.

Huh - I've never wanted a pure color in the background, so I've never tried the "solid colors" option.
My assumption would be that the selections available are Apple's way of:
a) Discouraging people from making their background Windows Green.
b) Discouraging primary colors that might make passersby say "it is just a toy".
My recommendation - Photoshop is overkill. Open AppleWorks, make a square with no border (of any color you choose). SaveAs JPEG, change the color, SaveAs JPEG, change the color, SaveAs JPEG - and dump them all in a folder you create called "colors". Then you'll forever have a folder of swatches that you can view in the Desktop preference pane. A half hour of work, and you'll have exactly the ease of switching colors you were looking for.

Max (http://sbooth.org/Max/) is among the more popular free options. :) I really like it, although it's been a while since I used it. It supports FLAC and OGG, although I used it for other things...
Looks like a good one - if I weren't already using Amadeus, it would certainly be worth a try.
