Netkas.org are discussing the Fermi cards in Lion head over there to see the best info about them.
If the 3D isn't that important an issue I would suggest heading down the AMD card route as Apple seem to be more well disposed to that manufacturer.
If you can hold off till the final retail release of Lion we will know better which way to go.

(1) Not even close to every machine ships with a productivity suite... in fact, if you look closely at what you're paying for when you buy most PC machines, those products that "ship standard" with your fancy new PC are built into the price. Most customizable online shops (Dell, et al.) allow you to remove that software and lower the price. So obviously, they are not free.
(2) iWork is undoubtably being groomed as a direct competitor to Office. There's no disputing that. It CURRENTLY is a replacement for AppleWorks, because it's still young and undeveloped in places, but it would be insane for Apple not to try and pursue part of the Office marketshare. It's an untapped resource, and frankly the Office programs are not very well constructed (with the exception of Excel). Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint are pretty lousy, and while Access is solid, it's certainly not leaps and bounds better than (PageMaker) <-- EDIT: Sorry, meant FileMaker.
(3) Bundling software, and then looking for profit on the backend with upgrades is a reasonable answer to the question. There's something to be said for that. But in the end, I think you're comparing Apples and Oranges. While at current, iWork is undeveloped, it is (as I said) being groomed to be a full suite of productivity Apps. iLife is a wonderful package of Apps, but they do not replace Pro Apps. iPhoto is garbage compared to Aperture or Photoshop. Pages is certainly not garbage compared to Word, and Keynote is already a much better App than PowerPoint. So I think there's a flaw in the argument here...
This impresses me as distinctions without much a difference. The iLife suite now consists of several well-developed applications all of which are bundled. They didn't necessarily start out mature but they grew into maturity. (iPhoto was never conceived as a replacement for Photoshop btw.) Apple got Mac users accustomed to using them and can now successfully charge for upgrades. They could do the same with iWork.

I use MacBiff (http://www.forkit.org/macbiff/) for that purpose. It just sits in the menubar, and when I've got some mail, beeps and shows the number of new emails. Although you have to enter in your email server information, it doesn't get it from Mail.app, but it does support IMAP and POP, SSL, and multiple accounts.

I didn't realise that you could make nice looking sites with iWeb. Especially as your first site - its awesome.
Based on me not understanding a word. Advice would be, maybe make it a bit clearer that you have to click the image to access the site, try and loose the Apple logo at the bottom - I think it looks at bit unprofessional. But apart from that its pretty good.

Coolbook is the solution.
I had both an 11" ultimate and a 13" ultimate. I preferred the extra screen real estate so I wanted to keep the 13" .... but the fan noise bugged me.
Flash, running windows via VM, photo editing, moving large files all made my 13" roar. (For whatever reason the 11" ran much quieter doing the same tasks.)
I'd read some posts here about Coolbook, I was reluctant to try it ... as a last resort before deciding to give up the 13" I installed it, used the recommend settings found here in this forum and voila my 13" has ran much quieter and cooler since.
I can work in Windows for hours, no fan noise, watch Flash everything.
Very impressed, it allowed me to keep my 13"!

lmao no chance they will give an ipad lol.. i dont even need that ipod touch thats why im not gonna wait for that deal to come and im gonna buy the imac this saturday.
Besides its not like its FREE, you got to pay for it, then wait to receive the rabate and u lose $20 cuz they dont return you the money u paid for the tax.
It seems like hassle for me but i mean if the deal was going on now or this weekend i would have swung for it but to wait 3 weeks for it and then another month to get the rebate back, besides ill need another $230 bucks on purchase day on the spot to pay for the ipod, u get my point but thats only me.
this saturday is gonna be a good day ;)

I can scrape my PDA (Dell Axim) up and down my carpet with no visible scratching.
let me guess "just for ***** and giggles"! :)
i can honestly see this as apple covering all their bases with a patent for any 'good idea' that has been discovered. as we are well aware, apple rules the roost in the digital audio player market, and i can see this as a way to protect such a valuable asset to the company.
i expect it to have no physical buttons, and use some of the mentioned technology, but in an even more intuative way!

I'm freakin sick of the ITMS.
I love iTunes and my iPod, but purchasing music that can only be put on an iPod is crap. There may be a better player out later which I want to go to and then *poof* my ITMS purchased tracks are crap.
www.allofmp3.com
It's (significantly) cheaper.
It's better.
'Nuff said.
AllofMP3 is exactly how all music selling sites should be. The possibility to choose exact what quality you want is great, no DRM is great, the price is of course also great.
If only the artists would get paid it would be perfect.

The option you want is out there and legally available--it's just that CDs are a "bad value."
I don't know what CD prices are like in the US, but here in the UK they are far from "bad value" compared to tracks on iTunes.
Most new CDs can be picked up for around 8 at the major supermarkets or online from places like play.com or cdwow.com. For this 8 I get a physical item (complete with inlay) that I can keep forever. I put it in my Mac, rip it to iTunes and I _also_ get a DRM-free mp3 version at any bit rate I require. Should I choose to ditch my iPod at some point in the future and move to a rival player, my ripped tunes will still work. And if they don't, I have the physical CD to fall back on.
For the same money on iTunes I get nothing more than a file on my Mac whose lifespan is subject to the whim of the hardware I use and the company that oversees it. I'm locked in to iPod.
CDs don't seem to be bad value to me.

I think it's a really good idea.
Once they increase the number of available podbooks, I think this could really become big.

I've not ever seen pop-ups on this site in the 2 years I've been visiting.
Could it be from another site you might have up in the background?

My university's tech department uses several of THESE (http://www.newertech.com/products/charger_cond.php) to charge their library loaner Macbook batteries between checkouts. I asked them about it once as I was having the need to keep two batteries charged. Said that it helps with conditioning as well.

I am trying to do this similar thing - but I am confused
Do I need a pc software based VPN? Can't I just use my router VPN? I have tried VPN with just iPad and router but not working. I wonder if it is because my ip address to my router from cablevision is not static? Although my router ip hasn't changed since I started trying to do this, it keep failing.
Argh I am so pissed that I can't figure this out even with google

I'm not buying the iPhone 6 timeline.
The 5 rumors make some sense, so as to not piss off the new Verizon owners who couldn't wait for the 5 to come out in June. However, assuming the 5 isn't slated to begin production until October, why would Apple release a new phone 6 months (or less) later? That will just piss both AT&T AND Verizon users who upgrade to the 5. I can't see them ramping up production for a phone with a 6 month anticipated life span.
Well it is important for them to actually try to get more competitive in hardware. Right now the iPhone 4 is far from being the best smartphone in terms of specs. The android phones coming out every other week are leapfrogging each other with better hardware and stuff.

Of course a touchscreen is better for racing, that's why all F1 cars have touchscreens instead of steering wheels nowadays ;)
Anyway look at the Xperia play for a true "convergance" device. Actual controllers AND a smartphone and it emulates a Playstation (and it's legal!! )

Have a read through the hardware rumors and general mac discussion forums, there are already many threads on this topic that may help answer your question.

Would 'de-regulating' FairPlay in this way encourage owners of other players to buy from iTMS and would this extra revenue offset that losses from lower (potentially) from iPod sales?
Absolutely not, because this is not what is happening.
What is claimed here is a method of adding the "FairPlay" DRM to music from other stores than iTMS, so that companies other than Apple can sell music with DRM that can _only_ be played with iTunes or an iPod (that is, 80 percent of the market) instead of selling music with Microsoft DRM as they do now (which plays on the other 20 percent of the market).
As an example, the Beatles could use this to sell all their music on the Internet with DRM to iPod owners, without going through the iTunes Music Store. They could make more money that way; for the iTunes user or iPod owner there would be no difference.
