It looks like Apple may not be doing pre-orders or reservations this time which makes me think I'll have to go Thursday night. Anyone else planning on staying over Thursday night or going really early Friday morning?

Some of you guys are lucky you'll be there at 1! I won't be there until 5!
Lucky if we end up getting an Ipad2 that is. I'll be ashamed to have stood in line for 5 hours + and get nothing!

I've had this thing since December and after about a month of sort of using it I haven't really touched it since. I have Dance Central and its a great game, but to be honest, I just don't feel like dancing my ass off at the end of the day.
I have plans to buy more Kinect games and use the thing more, but lately, I haven't. You?

Dear JBG
So there will be a 2011 Macbook refresh?
When do you think it's likely to arrive?

Storage is truly a subjective matter. From a long term perspective, it will all depend on your needs & how many images you shoot/ expect to shoot. Anything you do, should have a redundancy back-up, whether it be a duplicate HDD, DVD's or storage online. However, as has also been pointed out, there is no need for Black's/ 7200 drives, when it comes to archiving. Green's/ 5900's are quite sufficient.
Agreed. What I find to be more resource intensive are the steps taken for redundancy to prevent total data loss.
And I thought I read that someone claimed that OS X has built-in RAID? I don't think that that's quite correct: the system can support a software-based RAID 1, but it still requires having two physical disk drives to be thus set up .. it isn't automatic.
The following is my own experience with how I needed to adjust for future growth:
When I switched to Digital SLR's in I invested in a pair of 500GB Seagate Free Agent External HDD's, to back up my images to. In I added a pair of 1TB Seagates in an External Enclosure, and configured them in RAID 1. This device is connected via FW800, and is blazing fast, where as the USB driven Free Agent's, seem to move at a snails pace, though they are USB 2. Up to this point my DSLR's only shot on avg an 8-10MB Raw File, so I wasn't burning through storage, all that fast. However, as newer tech has come out, larger files were inevitable.
"wasn't burning through ... all that fast." Well said :D.
I moved from a 4MP digital p&S to a dSLR in 2005/6 (8MP Canon 20D) which was what started my bit-burning. Retrospectively, the ~4000 images (RAW/JPG) from my first Africa trip was what I'd now consider a "mere" 40GB.
FWIW, I had a Seagate FreeAgent 750GB with the FW upgrade card from roughly this same time period as a backup; just had it go bad last month...ironically, not the HDD itself but somewhere in the electronic controller boards.
I also had two older 250GB PATA drives sitting around, which I made into an external FW800 RAID1 to use as a redundant backup to the Seagate 750.

Well, they were pretty good. But why does this always happen? I swear that more then half of the footage I see shot with DSLRs are over exposed. That would be my main criticism of your stuff. I feel a bit lame criticizing you seeing as I certainly haven't made near as much content as you but imma keep going haha. Second would be that most of the songs I have heard (Although I can NOT figure out where. Seriously I was listening to them and I kept thinking "I have heard this a million times" but I can not figure out where). I didn't think the sound design was really that great, but it wasn't bad, it didn't distract me from the videos. All in all they were very watchable and pretty good

hi
I have a chance to get a 1.67GHz 15" PowerBook G4 for about $230. Is it worth this price or not? Thinking of buying it but not sure yet... (I use an intel MacBook too, but I have always wanted a PowerPC mac :p)

Would a Thinkpad T30 work? It's got 512MB RAM, 40GB HD, DVD/CDRW/Floppy hot-swap drives and a base station, along with a power cord or two (I have 4 but I doubt you'd need more than 2)

Wasn't there a rumor going around a couple months back about M$ making VPC free? That would make sense now if they're going to discontinue it, and let us PPC users have it for free. Who wants to pay for a product that won't receive any updates?
No... that was a lot of people getting confused. MS was giving away VirtualPC which is a Windows product. They never were giving away any Mac products, nor were they intending to as far as we know.
Are they working on a universal MS Office?
Yes, but we don't exactly know when that will come out. Look for it AFTER Vista (if that can happen) ;)

I use mine as my main Mac. It's been upgraded, and does what I do daily, including eBay, forums, news, Youtube, Hulu, certain games, etc.
G4 MDD, upgraded to 1.25GHz Dual just today... was a Dual 1.0 with 1MB L3 cache per CPU, now it's 2MB per.

2GB Corsair XMS DDR with cooling thingies
XFX GeForce FX5200 Video card with 256MB of memory
2 80GB HDs
Dual layer DVD burner
OS X 10.5.8

I am happy I got ubuntu Linux running under Parallels. It almost emulates the Lab version except for FPC not working correctly for compiling. But terminal works great using GPC. I should be starting on this tonight, with my Top Down Design.

Right now in the iPad forum every other thread is another "what do you want to see in iPad 2?" thread.
Report them and suggest they be merged into each other. This method has been done several times ("I'm waiting for Arrandale"- ugh) with success.

Better they use the same gestures etc. as Apple if they are going to push forward with multi-touch. We don't want to end up in 10 years time with a situation where every device has a different method for doing the same thing!
