And if next year half of new ones uses displayport, is it still useless?
Yes because its maximum resolution is 2500x1600 and DVI already satisfies that, it doesn't really matter at this point. It doesn't transmit audio like HDMI. Honestly the only benefit to it, is the increased distance it can run (15m).

Does anyone know how high the turnout has been at Thurrock for other Apple launches? Thinking of heading that way as I'm in central London and may fancy better odds (at picking one up on spec) further out...

Hey,
I'm wondering if it's possible to install 10.7 to an external drive?
Any thoughts?

Thanks for the review. Did you consider the similar case by Case Crown. It looks a lot like the Candy Convertible, but less expensive.
Yes, I still might give it a shot when it comes out.

Thanks, much appreciated. But, dang it, I can't for the life of me figure out how to send a PM. The option just doesn't seem to exist (I know, I must seem like a total n00b).
I think you need at least 5 posts to PM. Maybe more. Get to posting!

UK carriers offer this service for just 15 to own-carrier-activated iphones. is this ridiculous price not for cross carrier iphones. coz if this is what O2 had offered me, I would have sent them to fly a kite.
Do US carriers offer a similar unlock service does one always have to go 3rd party.(might as well jailbreak while your at it, to further enjoy your $170 spend)
:apple:Apple should get in this too - after-all it is itunes based [freee money-inhouse]
Guess the usual is evident: Apple produce the best product, and pirates make it even better below the board... :D

They're really lumping iOS and *ANDROID* sales together?
Doesn't Android get something like 1% of the sales iOS gets?
I was thinking the same thing

I told you guys that appl would never get close to selling 50M iPads this year. 4M in the first quarter looks more 12-15M than 50M.
lol

Well, I see for me, some one who isn't going to buy an extra device to play portable games (my iphone has enough games I like, and not just the stupid little angry bird type games, stuff like old rpgs (and some new designed for the phone) and racing games) good and bad in this.
Good in that it may tempt more of the bigger developers to make stuff for my device (like Square has made quite a few games now though many of it is old games redone but hey, they're still fun :) , Capcom has some though in general I don't think Capcom has gotten the hang of making good iphone games, not as impressed with their stuff, we have Gameloft as well).
Bad in that the stuff that is encouraging people to move over is the angry bird type games and that it appears to make the more in depth stuff isn't as profitable. So in the long run we may not see as many games come out that are profitable.
Already it is sad when you look at the console market a lot of games are just games based on popular movies and not much innovation (cause the games based on the movies make the money and stuff like Okami and more innovative stuff gets ignored). I remember when I was reading an article complaining about how that was the trend in games (it happened to movies too once blockbusters came out. Movie studios were more interested in making blockbusters than unique movies, basically finding a formula that worked and sticking with it rather than trying anything different).
I think in terms of portable games, whether on smartphones or not, the market will produce what people want to play. I think in the portable market specifically (very different from the console market, as much as Sony wants to pretend people want to play full console-style games on the go), there is more demand for quick pick-up-and-put-down games, particularly ones with some depth, addictiveness, and significant content, which we're seeing more and more of.
At the same time, more 'serious' games like Square's releases and the recent Death Rally, and many others seem to be doing well enough that people looking for that kind of content shouldn't be too worried. I just wouldn't expect, say, a full-blown Assassin's Creed or similar console game, because those are console games. I don't think nearly enough people want that kind of experience on a phone to justify the cost.
As for most console games being licenced garbage these days, I would point out that has always been the case, back to the NES/SNES days. People only remember all the good games because, well, that's all people remember.

AirDrop appeared in Finder with the original Dev Preview. When I upgraded to Developer Preview 2, AirDrop was gone. I figured it was some sort of bug, and when I did the Dev Preview 2 Update that was released today, I figured it would return - but I was wrong!
Any idea on how to bring AirDrop back into the Favorites area of the Finder sidebar?? It's not even an option in the Finder Preferences Sidebar section!
I just checked and it is still there for me after the update. I would say file a bug report. I don't know of a way to make reappear.

If server side programming isn't an option for you, another option is to add a unique id to all your pages (<body id="homepage">) then use that in your CSS to style it differently. I prefer the server-side approach myself, but I'm a developer.
#homepage a, #otherpage a { }

My neighbors cousin died in the attack. Her boss (president of the company) took the day off (pretending to be sick). Everyone else in the company was at work, which was around 30 people. All of the people that worked there died except for the president. As you can imagine, the man is now an emotional wreck.
Another one one of my neighbors worked in the 2nd trade tower. He was on the 6x floor and started to leave when he saw the first plane crash. When he was leaving the 2nd tower got hit. He ran out to the bottom and escaped with a few other people in a UPS truck.
My brother-in-law was talking to a guy that worked on the 7x floor of the 1st tower that got hit on the phone. They were talking and then all of a sudden there was a big crash and the line went dead. The guy did not make it.
I could go on with a bunch of stories, I was practically there, but I'll stop. To sum it up it was horrific. Seeing the people running out of the building, some of them hurt, knowing there were many hundreds of people still inside, and a bunch of people on the two planes that hit.

I think you have that wrong - slightly - they're shutting down the ESPN thing...
"The Walt Disney Co. will spend about $30 million to shut down its Mobile ESPN wireless telephone services, but remains "excited" about its family-oriented Disney Mobile phone service, Disney Chief Financial Officer Tom Staggs said on Monday."
Ah - this makes more sense. The ESPN thing always did seem a little over the top to me...

I heard they found him using findmyiphone:D
I heard that too. I also heard the illicit location data Apple was storing was actually designed at pinpointing this guy.
I'm not going to say where I heard it, but there were at least 3 "official" sources.

I'm fairly sure you're not the only one who has the same concern, especially when iPad threads get derailed.
A few years ago, when the iPhone came out and the iPhone forums were set up, there were also a lot of threads in there about other phones and manufacturers, which seemed to annoy a lot of people and draw a lot of hostile discussion, so much so that I created a poll and placed it as a sticky in there to gauge how people felt about using the iPhone forums in this way.
From memory, after 3-4 months of leaving the poll open, I think it split fairly evenly, with about half of the iPhone regulars wanting to keep it purely iPhone-related, the other half wanting to talk about rival smartphones in the iPhone forum.
There was some discussion about having a policy where we would move Nokia-related threads (for instance) into Community Discussion, a practice that didn't really work out and doesn't seem to have been continued, perhaps because the problem has subdued a little or that it didn't represent an ideal solution either.
So, it's a similar situation and has affected more than just the iPad forums over the years. Perhaps there's scope for setting up a new, broad but carefully limited umbrella or sub-forum for non-Apple tech with a little shuffling around.
Or perhaps it might be best to just ride it out for a while, sit tight, keep an eye on whether this is a temporary thing and see where things stand in a few months. The tablet tide is high right now; what will it be like when the water recedes a little?

Apple Lossless Codec is a compromise between the small but lossy encoding of AAC or MP3 and the large file sizes of pristine AIFF audio. Apple Lossless provides full uncompressed CD quality audio in about half the space of the original file, answering the call by discriminating musical ears for a format that offered both compression and high-quality audio.
If I read your post right it seems that you are importing from your cds in either aac or mp3 and then converting those files to apple lossless. Unless you have a lot of space, not a lot of cds, and a really good ear I would not reccomend importing your cds to apple lossess. I import my cds at 192kps AAC and can't tell the difference between that and the cd.

I see complaints on Facebook and apple support for the same issue.
Wonder if it has something to do with flash not being compatible anymore after update?
