i'd hope someone who is able to code to figure out to google his answer especially for something like an asp shopping cart....

Simply measure the amount of volts it uses while folding with a physical electrical meter, (I don't know if there are any programs that can actually measure electrical output) And see how much your electricity bill charges you. Folding DOES cause an increase in electricity usage, so if I were you, I wouldn't do it.

    1. If I buy itms tracks, can I burn them to a CD and play them on a CD player?
    Yes.
    2. If I own a CD, can rip it to itunes and then play it on an ipod?
Yes, as long as it's a real CD and not one of those wacky not-really-CD things with bizarre copy protect schemes. Even most of those can be brought into an iPod, though.

It's not me it's the dying man that makes the OS comparisons at every keynote. Well actually he only did when iOS was in a leading position...

The last Android vs. iOS comparison he made was something like: "We have 350k apps!". Well Android now has about 325k apps and grows by about 35k apps per month. I guess that comparison won't make it into his June keynote....

I imagine the millions of apps, and the fact that people actually buy apps on iOS (and almost not at all on Android) will be a large part of the keynote..

Go ahead an miss-quote the rovio ad revenue statement now, that is the next line on the list of Android talking points.

P.S. You are pretty classes, even for an Android fan.

    Hello MacRumors,

I'm very surprised that you had removed(or was it never there?) the breadcrumbs at the bottom of any forum page. I find this very counter intuitive.

By the time the user reach the bottom of a long thread page, I think the most common actions would be to either want to move to a different page of the same thread or to go back to the section page with listings of all the thread titles. In my case, I ALWAYS want to go back to the section page so I can select another thread to view. Currently... there is no breadcrumb at the bottom that I can quickly jump back out of the thread.

There's always the back button on the browser... However, that's practical only if the thread is single page(or I can even stand 2-3 pages, just a few more back clicks, right?). What if I've dwelved a good 10 or so pages into a long thread? Or I'm jumping around a REALLY long thread to try to find something? I would have to scroll all the way up just to find the breadcrumb at the top. Very annoying...

It may seem like a trivial thing and I'm nit picky... but imagine that this repeated annoyance happens nearly every time you view a multi-page thread... I realize that there is the "Forum Jump" menu, but that either requires 2 clicks or you must scroll... Why can't we have both? Jumping else where with "Forum Jump" or simply single click to jump back up a tree.

Also on a side note... your breadcrumb at the top of the forum page is broken in FireFox. The "trigger box" for the "MacRumors Forums" link is a huge box that overlays the next few items in the breadcrumb. Essentially, making the neighboring links useless because it would fire the "MacRumors Forums" link instead.

Please bring back the bottom breadcrumb... It's the most logical place to offer navigational links since the user is most likely done with reading and would like to browse else where.

Please fix the top breadcrumb when viewed in FireFox...

    Thanks!

Nope, vniow, I can't load it in Opera, Firefox, Camino, IE6 or 7. Only Safari. On Windows I had to download the file and open it in GIMP.

EDIT: OK. Loading it with Quicktime's Picture Viewer on Windows works. Strange. :)

So I have an iPad2 Wifi and an iPhone 3G. The 3G is jailbroken and I'm running the MyWi application.

Unfortunately I am not seeing the GPS enabling on the iPad2 that others have reported.

Am I supposed to be getting any kind of GPS, or is my phone too old or am I running the wrong software? Whenever I open Maps, I get 'Current Location could not be determined'.

    Thanks for your help!

It works without the Internet. When connected to the non-Internet network, do you see the little WiFi bars in the status menu and/or does the iPod get a proper IP address?

Yes I get the quarter round radiating bars plus a tick to the left of the network name. It actually seems to be staying with it now and not wandering off as it sometimes does.

As for IP address I have gone for a static one same as I did for the router that works - chose a slightly different actual IP address on the same subnet. Everything else the same as for the other router - not that it should matter - gateway, DNS etc should be irrelevant.

And if I ping the subnet it does recognize and ping itself

I'm in need of a new camera. I'm currently using a Canon Powershot A630. I've had it for 5 years now, and it's served me extremely well. I love the image quality. Unfortunately, it keeps turning itself off now when I go to take a picture. It's been dropped, and I fear I damaged something.

I'm looking for a new point and shoot camera that takes quality pictures. I'm not interested in a DSLR due to cost and portability. I'd ideally like something a bit smaller than my old Canon. I'd gladly go for another Canon. I'd like it to take an SD card. Some degree of optical zoom is a must (I think that goes without saying). I'd really like a camera that still has a viewfinder. I'm a freak like that, I know, but in sunlight it's too hard to see LCDs and I want some way to work without one.

I'd really like the camera to have a geotagging feature. This would be awesome with Places in iPhoto.

    Price range: sub $300.

I just had an Art Director for a Stop Motion Animation Movie Company leave our shop. We ran a bunch of 3x6 foot fine art prints for her for the Sundance Film Festival (we are in Utah).

She and her art team created the posters digitally from a series of still photos taken with a Nikon D-300. The still photos were of painted sets and set characters. The paints they used were very pastel-like and bright. They then pushed these prints and added text in RGB format in Illustrator and Photoshop.

Their display was a Dell 30" high Color.

We showed them proofs on a calibrated high gamut HP LP3065 and then on an ACD 23".

Our printers for this job are fully calibrated (closed loop color) HP Z3100, Colorspan Displaymaker, and HP DesignJet 130 both with EFI Designer XL RIPS with full Spectrophotometer Support.

The art director was highly bummed that the InkJet Prints would not match her Dell or our HP LP3065 (both very wide gamut). She had no background in Color Management and no understanding of RGB versus CMYK, if you can imagine this!!

She kept moaning that she needed to find a way for the print to match her display. We kept telling her to refer to the ACD 23 for a more realistic expectation as to how the prints would look in final form.

It was amazing to me her lack of understanding of color gamut and how cmyk printing cannot match today's HC or High Gamut Monitors.

I offer this to this thread as there are a lot of people complaining that Apple's ACD's are "out-of-date," etc.

Actually, they are not: they are simply technology that is very targeted at a group of professionals that Apple use to covet as its "own:" print professionals and print-based photographers.

While Apple has moved past this market heavily into entertainment and broadcast video, their monitors have remained focused on this area. Surely they will update them. But for now, please understand why Apple's ACD's remain as they are and that they still have a large user base that actually needs and prefers these gamut specs.

I am of the belief that a creative shop should have many monitors as we do: some high gamut and some standard SWOP gamut, like ACD's.

We moved far beyond print a long time ago: we focus now on Video, CMS-based web development and broadcasting, and Flash. High Gamut is great for this (though not without its risks even for this market as many end-users have older, low gamut LCD's).

But to call Apple's ACD's out of date is just pain misinformation and lack of knowledge on a complex and tricky subject.

great post; very interesting. i currently own a 23" ACD but have been entertaining the idea of upgrading to a 30", and the HP has been high on the list because of its high contrast, multiple inputs and attractive price compared to the ACD30.

are you saying that using the adjustment controls on the HP, one cannot balance the color to match that of the ACD? or is it just that at its "default" values out of the box, it gives a hyped picture?

Likewise; there are a few of us on here, but not nearly enough. This release date is perfect for me as I had planned on taking the 26th off anyways since I have some extra vacation days to use before the end of the year. Figure I might as well make the trip up to the store and see what it's like for a product launch. :)

Lucky for you, get there early so you can get one of those t-shirts. :D

A t-shirt sounds better than those dog-tags that i ended up with for the Tiger Release.

Want to put up a 4-disk RAID5 array (not to boot off, just storage, boot drive will be from an SSD) into the 4x drive bays on the Mac Pro 5,1 and don't want to use the Apple RAID card that takes advantage of the internal drive channels as I herd bad things about it the apple card and its not too hot on specs either.

So I am pondering whether to go for something like the:

    ARC-1880LP
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Areca/ARC1880LP/

With this card I'll have 4x 3TB drives in RAID5 and 2x SSD in 5"25 with Multi-mount adapter. Will probably have to use the two onboard SATA2 ports for the SSD's considering there's only one set SATA power/data connector set left that I can use that was intended for the ODD. Or is there more sata/power connectors there or can I buy/connect more?

Or use something like the Areca ARC-1880-ix-12 that can be connected to some 12x internal drives via SAS expanders. With this card I can connect both the 4x 3TB HDD RAID5 volume and 2x 6G SSD (non-raid) to it at same time.

Does anyone have any experience with any of the above cards? e.g ease of setting up, bugs, reliability etc. Also does it get messy cable wise when you don't use the apple raid card and run the SAS expanders to the drives? How did you go about flashing the card to EFI firmware ?

Which other 6G RAID cards can you recommend that I can connect 4x HDD in RAID5 and 2x 6G SSD's (non-raid) to, if there's a good one that takes advantage of internal drive channels it would be a plus.
