I would not say the iPad stinks as an ereader, but the kindle is certainly better for reading books. I have read 15 to 20 full length books on my iPad, about the same on my phone, and hundreds on my kindle.
I travel a lot , so since I got my iPad, I do not bring the kindle (I have a DX). I am actually considering buying a little one just for novels, I got the DX for PDFs, a function the iPAD is 1000000 times better suited for.
All three devices are better than a PC for reading books. The order is clearly Kindle, iPad, iPhone.

Reading restaurant menus as PDFs or emails or blogs or websites...the iPad is great and definitely better than the Kindle...the Kindle needs to either put a 10000x better web browser on the product or kill it...it's terrible...especially just typing in a URL. Keyboard could use a major overhaul, too.

I may be wrong, but doesn't iTunes convert WMA songs automatically? I'm working on switching over a friend and got him to use iTunes as a start and I think he said when he imported his WMA's it converted them...

Hello all,
I have an iPad 16GB. I tried to jailbreak with PwnageTool, and everything went smooth with restoring with custom firmware in iTunes, so it seems!
After the restore is complete, the iPad stays in Recovery Mode, and all I get is a black screen (as if the iPad was off), but when I plug it into my Macbook or PC, it shows up as in Recovery Mode in iTunes every time!
I have spent hours trying to get it to work. I've tried 4.2.1, 4.2.1 custom jailbreak, 4.3.1, then back to 4.2.1. Still nothing! I am stumped at this point. I have tried holding the power button, holding the power button as well as the home button, and the iPad will not do anything unless it is plugged into a computer.
I have tried TinyUmbrella's "Fix Recovery," which brings it to a white screen, then says unable to find gbdevlist etc. etc.
I have tried a soft reset, nothing works...

Sorry, I might have a caused a slight confusion by giving you examples of element access. The term applies equally (or more so in regards to you teacher's question) to how an array is declared.
In the Pascal examples from your Pascal Multi-Dimensional Arrays thread, consider the following Pascal declarations.
var

cards : array[1..4,1..13] of char;
In these declarations the stuff in square brackets can also be referred to as subscripts.
I think your teacher is asking you to think about the data types of these subscripts, particularly in regards to multi-dimensional arrays like the cards array above.

I don't know how the Order Status page on Apple's site works in other countries, but in the US if the item ships separately, there's a separate tracking number with each item, otherwise it will say "preparing for shipping or "not yet shipped".
I would think calling Apple would probably provide more answers than calling the shipping company.

Even if you could convert from the iPod, it wouldn't matter because you're dealing with the same compressed AAC file whether it's on the iPod or your computer.I like AAC,but then I have an iPod.I could hear artifacts of the compression with 128k mp3,I don't with 128k AAC. Extensive listening with headphones has yet to reveal a problem, even with stuff I had on CD and had listened to over a hundred times.

If you mean the Office formats, then yes they should, since as with music Microsoft do not create the contained data, they just wrap a format around it. However there is a huge difference between DRMd media content and PC/XBox games. The games cost the companies millions to develop on each platform, and it is their intellectual property in the first place. Adding DRM to someone else's music takes a push of a button.

If I decided my Philips DVD Player was rubbish, I could buy a JVC and the DVDs still played. As far as I'm concerned, anything I OWN, I should have fair use rights over, even if I wish to change the make of my player. Steve Jobs makes a big deal about us OWNING our music when we buy from iTunes. If I truly own it, I should have the right to use it how I wish. Which is it?

Therefore I have to conclude that any one company having rights over my ability to access paid-for content on the Internet isn't in my or your interests, even if that company is Apple.
If DRM is necessary, it should be interoperable between different manufacturers. The aim of it should be to prevent illegal copying, not allow vendor lock in.

Ilife should be on the grey disc that came from apple as well as os x. Do a clean install from that then upgrade to tiger.
Good to hear iLife is likely on that disc. I do not know how to do a 'clean install'. Does this delete all my data off the hard drive? That's my goal.
