... Who needs their crappy software anyway?
I do! I need entourage, xcel and Word, PERIOD. It's not so much a matter of choice as fitting in with the rest of my company. Mac users used to exist in a bubble, but no for many years now. They must also fit in with corporate.

I have a iMac and use mobile me for my email. I am wondering if archiving my email will speed things up in the mail section or the mac overall. I have a ton of email that I keep in folders that are years old. I keep them for serial numbers for software I bought and so on. Then there are attachments to some emails such as family emails. I have about 10 GB in my mail folder under my library section under my user name. Should I consider archiving my email and how does that affect the email searching , say if I wanted to look up a email for a serial number? What are the steps on how to do it? Is there a article or can someone tell me how to do it?

Have you tried setting reminders/alarms in iCal.
Works well for me.
I tried using iCal when I first switched over in '06. I integrated my Google calendar with it, but stopped using it because I often access my calendar in places other than my home computer. So I stuck with Google calendar and its "cloud" capabilities.
I know I can get MobileMe to access my iCal anywhere, but I rather not pay for a service when there's free (though shoddy like google cal) alternatives out there.

Have you tried deleting redsn0w and downloading it again? maybe it's the file. I had a similar problem and replacing the .exe file fixed it for me.
Yes I've tried that several times. I also tried first when the jailbreak was for 4.3.1 and the tried it again when they updated redsnow to jailbreak 4.3.2 (after I updated my device to 4.3.2 of course). I also tried using the iphone firmware stored in my itunes folder and also downloading the firmware from the dv-team link. Same results with every time. Weird!!!
Another thing I should mention was that although my model number indicated I was on the old boot rom as opposed to the fixed I got an error message saying that I was indeed on the fixed boot rom. I restored my device and tried it again using the fix boot rom option. Since then I haven't received that error message but instead what I mentioned above happens. Could this be my problem?

Thanks, but I was not able to find anything on how long the battery is capable of lasting. If I recall correctly, my first battery lasted at least 4 hours (possibly longer). I do not have too many programs running - at least not much more then initially.
Read the BATTERY LIFE FROM A CHARGE section. There is no simple answer, since so many factors affect your individual battery life. That section will explain more fully.

Screw Dvd Jon. He's a moron. iTunes is popular because it's a simplistic kick ass store. It's easy to use, and well organized. It has a great selection for a price cheaper than most CDs.

Female president of the united states? Yeah, right. We're destined to have white rich yuppies for presidents forever. Since the creation of the country until its demise, that's how it will be. Why? Because there's no way in hell the government would let a "minority" in the leading role. No way at all. Doesn't mean I don't want to see it, I'm just being real here.
Nice fantasy story though.
Didn't care to watch it. I think I was watching Arrested Development or somethign when it came on.

Anyway, what should my next step be? Where would I find firmware updates that old? :p This compu will be worthless for me if I can't upgrade it to OS X, Classic is dead.
Apple's website will have them. But they have to be done in 9.2 or 9.1 IIRC... not OS X, and not sure about OS 8.6.

I purchased a new western digital my passport essential external drive.
It keeps powering down/ejecting on it's own.
It's the kind that is powered by the USB ports on your computer.
I formatted it with fat32 but I also tried Mac formatting and it did not matter.
I'm using it on a late 2008 MacBook pro.
I tried a different USB cable with no benefit.
It shuts down at what seems like random intervals.
Any ideas on what this can be?
Thanks.

Hmm, yeah I think I've heard about that before. Thanks. I'll have to look around to see if there's a way to make it work with my mac, or I guess I could just use windows...
If you have an intel Mac then you may be able to use crossover (http://www.codeweavers.com/products/download_trial_macosx/) to get the windows drivers for the XboX controller to work under Mac OS X. I have used it to make the windows drivers for my Logitech Precision Gamepad to work and it is flawless for that purpose.

i have a really small iogear 4 port USB 2.0 hub. it's white, not more than 4-5 inches and about 3/4" thick. it looks like this: http://www.mobileplanet.com/us/product.asp?code=120112&partner=IMFRO, but it's white. i used it once or twice because i didnt have enough room to plug in my ipod, but i dont use it too much anymore, i just switch between one of the ports on my pb. i think i paid like $29.99 or something, but i'll give it to you for like $15?

Hi, I will not be camping out, however I am disabled and wonder if their nwill be a (special Line) for people that have disabled (PLACARDS). Also, does anyone know how long the pre reservation lines will be and how fast they will move, base on like (person #43) who is in line? Also, my reservation says 7 am, but could there be like a 1000 customers in the reservation line at 7 am? I'm just trying to get a (CLEAR UNDERSTANDING) of how long I will be in line because of my disability. Please let me know from past experiance.
thanks, purplestigers:apple:
Spoke with the apple store today. They will have 2 lines one for reservations and one for non reservations. I asked about disabled people. The rule is you must wait in the line. But they said they would be more than happy to help you any way they could. The mall is not going to let us line up until like 5am. In the past when apple opens the doors the lines are fairly long. I have seen them stretch all the way from the apple store down towards Macy's. I'd say at 7am there will be at least 50 non reservation people in line and more than that in the reservation line. I cant really speculate how fast the line will move since the farthest back i have ever been in line was 8. My suggestion would be to have someone wait in line for you and then when the store is about to open go meet up with them. Good luck. Lets us know how it went. :-)

So with WMP gone and now VPC gone, the only MAJOR software developed for Macs by Microsoft is Office?
Let's just hope they don't decide to kill office. Sure, I know there are lots of alternatives out there, but you try telling that to Mr. idiot joe-average boss.
Yeah, Office will stay. They said they are committed for at least 5 more years. Office is probably the only Mac software they develop and actually make a decent profit on.

Officially confirms that this was a really, really bad idea:

From what I understand, he is planning on going on a hunger strike in protest. I'm sure by 2015, Microsoft will have something to make him happy and allow him to eat again.
Please keep him in your thoughts today.

Have you checked HotScripts (http://www.hotscripts.com)? Personally I'd use PHP.

'Painfully Slow' a relative term of course, but is correct in the fact that you will always get faster performance from native hardware.
That being said, I thin going to '98 is a good idea. Not as much Eye Candy to emulate. You probably won't feel much speed issues if you are using Excel, or Word, though those are available in OS X BTW.
But if you wish games - not a good idea. That truly is painful, and not what VPC was designed for.
Personally, I only find the need to use a PC for a few Apps like Summation, Carpe Diem, TrialMax (Legal apps), and MS Project (though FastTrack 8 is OS X native)
What softwares do you need VPC to run?

Those 2 mentioned were the lower default resolutions and I believe the others were 1280 x 720, 1280 x 768, 1368 x 768. I like the 1280 x 720 but most recent games only get maybe 8 - 15 fps at that resolution.
