I think the troubleshooting sections should be spun off to their own pages. That way it can be consolidated down to a single page.

If they don't keep FaceTime open to non-iOS mobile devices and non-OS X devices, FaceTime will be dead in the water if it isn't already.

Exactly what I am saying. Even Apple has to eventually realize that their products are only any good if you can use them to connect with others. I mean... how many people do you know that use FaceTime by now? Oh, your friends got Android? Bummer. It's fine for Apple to use it to push their market share for some time, but in the end you have to come out the shell to become valuable in reality.

I presently work seven blocks from Ground Zero, but before the move to my new location I worked for eleven years directly across the street from the WTC. I will share with you some of my vivid memories from that day. It was a busy morning and I was listening to Beatles music coming through my headphones when I felt my chair lifted about 1 inch off the carpeted floor.

As unusual as that was, I was rather quick to dismiss it because the prior week similar repairs were being done on the floor beneath me. Heavy tools were used at that time and noticeable vibrations felt throughout the day ... thus, I did not feel an apparent need to be curious and pursue the matter further.

About ten minutes after the first plane hit the North Tower, we all received immediate orders to evacuate the building in a calm manner. After arriving on the street, I looked upward and it eerily resembled evening. At least 15 fire engines were screaming all around us and a beautiful September morning was rapidly transformed into a horror.

Some fellow employees had been on the top floor and heard that first plane roaring by one block away, and seconds later watched it slice into the WTC building from their unobstructed view.

Within 15 minutes it was deemed far too dangerous for hundreds of workers to be milling around outside, so we were dismissed and told to go home immediately. I was lucky to get my train because some subway lines stopped service within an hour.

From where I get the train it is underground ... however, when it leaves Manhattan about 8 minutes later it becomes an elevated train and you have an excellent view of the downtown skyline.

Needless to say, on this morning there was nothing picturesque about it. It was obscene! The higher floors of both buildings were now engulfed in flames and thick clouds of toxic smoke were pouring into the surrounding pretty blue sky. Everyone on the jammed train was riveted to what was unfolding before their eyes.

I cannot even imagine the fear that overcame people who decide to leap to their deaths as opposed to perishing in the inferno. I tried hard to suppress thinking about it, but figured I probably would have opted for the former method myself ... sure it is gruesome, but it would all be over in 15-20 seconds.

When I arrived home, the only TV station working was Channel 2 since they had a backup master antenna atop the Empire State Building. All other media outlets were either dark or had such awful interference which rendered them unwatchable. After being fixated to the television for about 30 minutes, the first building hit toppled.

As horrible as this all was, for some reason I thought the towers would never fall despite the spillage of jet fuel and resulting raging fires. I know nothing about engineering and architecture, so it was just wishful thinking on my part. Since watching the WTC during the years of construction, it had an invincible aura to it.

The 24 hour coverage was continuous for at least 7-10 days. After the second building crumbled, I retrieved a voice mail message from management informing employees that we would be required to stay home for two weeks to ensure the structural safety of our building.

When we eventually did get back to work, we were without phone service for another 3-4 weeks. The telephone company underground substation servicing much of lower Manhattan was located directly across from the WTC and completely destroyed.

It was a terribly sad, frightening and chaotic day that I will never forget because it has been indelibly etched in my mind ... hopefully, a repeat performance of such an inhumane, despicable and cowardly act will not come again to an American city on any scale.

i think what cutyoursim is doing is quite legal.

My local vodafone charges 100euros (was 200euros last year) to unlock any iphone & get it registered on apple's servers.

ANY iphone? Or any vodafone iphone?

To the best of my knowledge, that's not how Spotlight works. It indexes on the go such that if you make a new file, save it and quit, it'll instantly be in Spotlight. It doesn't go through and reindex periodically.

More likely, they're just random computer processes that are keeping the hard drive running. I think you're right in assuming the drive is fine, but keep regular back ups all the same, irrespective of clicking noises. :)

Anyone heard whether the jailbreak Comex was working on was patched by 4.3.1, or was that just speculation that it would patch the exploit?

resolution independence is going to be a god send to web developers, no more crappy and inaccurate pixel/em sizes. now we'll be able to specify inches and picas hoorah!

and vista will be supporting resolution independence through its WPF foundation layer. it won't be overnight hell like CSS 2.1 it'll take years before it goes mainstream, but the web is going to be a much better place.

as for JPEGs at 72 dpi vs resolution independence beyond the scaling algorithms it's important to look at the increase in resolutions of monitors before going to crazy, 1920x1200 is about the maximum and average consumer is going to have, it's taken a few years from 1024x768 to get there though, three or four at least. i suspect we'll be at a max ratio of 2:1 or maybe 3:1 for quite some time. i don't think we're going to see a drastic need for hi-res images on the web or a plethora of "blurry" images for quite some time.

What I'm thinking here is that the GPS is integrated into the camera. So when you take a pic, the GPS coordinates are recorded in the metadata so you know where it was taken.

could be. but honestly i don't think that's a good thing. it just makes the equipment more expensive, clunky and less capable than dedicated devices. after all you don't need that feat all the time. only once in a while and then you bring the extra gps. cramming a gps in nowadays small P&S or even DSLR's is just expensive and complicated.

    my two cents.

Just go 32bit. It requires a small hack to run 64bit on a macbook, which isn't hard, but unless you have 4GB memory, it's pretty useless.

Yes I would upgrade. I had the 13 inch for a week...brought it back for the 15 only because I needed a better graphics card. It is a fast little computer and I much prefered it over the 15 I have now, because of how lightweight it was. Buy somewhere with a good return policy if you aren't sure. Best Buy or some place like that. They gave me two weeks to return it for a refund. Good luck, whatever you decide. Keep us posted. :)

... Who needs their crappy software anyway?
I do! I need entourage, xcel and Word, PERIOD. It's not so much a matter of choice as fitting in with the rest of my company. Mac users used to exist in a bubble, but no for many years now. They must also fit in with corporate.

I am trying to get my printer to work on my powerbook. It is a HP Officejet k60. On the HP site they don't have any drivers for MacOS, but they do have one for Linux. Will the Linux driver work on my Mac? I have tried installing it, and my Linux is a little weak, but when I try to run the make command it tells me I don't have a compiler installed. Now when I had Linux on my PC I rememeber I had to run the setup utility to install all the developer tools. Is this a similar issue? Is there a compiler on the CD that came with my Mac? If not, where can I download one?

Am I going about this in the wrong way? I thought that OSX was supposed to eliminate the need to install drivers and such. Cause my PC can use this printer withouut any drivers at all installed. In fact, HP recommeds that you just let XP do its thing and not install a thing from the CD that came with it cause it was pre-XP drivers. Shouldn't OSX be able to do the same? I mean I can see it in the Print Center, but it says "Driver not installed" right beside it and it won't let me add it.

I'm sorry, this is probly a retarded question, but I have had my Mac for less than a week now. And with school around the corner I kind need this printer working pronto.
