no one seems to be pointing out that they got rid of educational pricing for iPods... that's a bummer.
They did lower the prices overall, so I don't see a problem. You can get an 80GB iPod for less than I bought my 60 GB (with the discount). They probably also figured most people getting an iPOD (not necessarily doing the purchasing) are students, and they didn't like the hassle of doing the Student ID checks.
I would like to see a bigger education discount in the computer area. As a teacher, the price is still a little high. It would be nice to start the Macbooks at just under $1000 with a DVD burner with the 1.83 Ghz... or I should look into a career that makes buying Macbooks a BREEZE...
by the way... how many times is iTUNES 7 going to "determine Gapless Playback Information" I hope this isn't a daily process. It has already done it 3 times after connecting my iPOD.

I suggest CocoaMySQL (http://sourceforge.net/projects/cocoamysql/) (a cocoa GUI for MySQL) for administrating your MySQL database(s).
It requires a little knowledge on how MySQL works, but that's the case for any MySQL administration (especially for security issues)...

What gets me the most bang for my buck - upgrading to a SSD or upgrading RAM?
Slowness I'm seeing is with iPhoto - I'm thinking the bottleneck is the iPhoto library HD (800 GB of pix).

I'm in line and it's more like 55 now...
Oh wow, I was going to go there about 10:30 but I don't know now. Will you update to say if everyone was able to get two?

No, just freezes. I did get some weird lines once a couple of days ago when I slept the computer. The lines just appeared for about 1 second as it went down.

Yep. I agree. And if you've used Android lately on a phone, you'd say iPhone what?!?! Apple still has the more solid tablet but Android OS will have that market by summertime as well.
Don't bother flaming, it's well documented in the sales figures that Android has taken the #1 spot in the Phone OS model... my only point is Apple is at a critical turning point in their history. They can give customers what they want, or restrict. Customers don't like to be restricted, and like me, seek alternatives when cornered.
no argument here - but i hate the fact android manufacturers are restricting their phones with encrypted bootloaders etc (motorola, and now htc) which definitely affects being able to flash your device with whatever. not to mention with att's android devices you have to root them to even be able to install the amazon market due to even more restrictions. also waiting forever for the latest android update to go from google -> manufacturer -> mobile provider -> customer... with each putting their own crapware on it
if i ever make the switch, it will hopefully be to a google released and supported phone on at&t. i know the nexus s is a samsung device, but at least it receives pushed google updates.
but i feel you, i get frustrated with all of this too. if it wasnt for jbing, i would have ditched the phone long ago.

The newbies actually only have 1 or 2 posts, they only showed up on the list because they must have gotten interested in MR in the last month and posted something. The list does not include people who only have visited in the last month, active is considered posting in the forums.

I need a firewire DVD R/W as, in case of need, I could do the boot by means of it, as my Mac mini is a PowerPC one (I read that only Intel Mac can boot by means of USB optical drives).
By the way, what do you think about the Hamlet HEXD5UA-D DVD R/W ? It has both firewire and usb.
are you in the uk or ireland? it uses 220 power. I would not be able to comment on it I don't think it sells in usa we have 110/120 power.

Or you could get a front IS and then save, and then get a case with a rubber lining to prevent scratches.

I would assume the overnight line will form outside the northwest entrance (the one at the bottom of the ramp & tunnel underneath North End. That would make the most sense. This will be my first Apple launch day visit and my plan is to arrive at 6 AM as the doors to the MALL open.
This should be fun! See you guys there!

I'm just hoping they at least give us the OPTION to download HD movies soon (not for this product obviously, but just in general). Just like they have options for watching trailers, we should be able to download the HD version of a movie if we want to/our bandwidth can allow it. I'd actually buy movies of iTunes if this was the case!

Oh, I see. If iTunes is downsampling for the iPad (most powerful iDevice), I highly doubt it will play on an iPod. Keeping a dual-library really is the only way to go.

Boy Genius Report notes (http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010/10/26/att-stores-start-receiving-ipads-setting-up-displays/) that AT&T retail stores have received their initial shipment of iPads and related display materials, two days before the device is set to go on sale (http://www.macrumors.com/2010/10/14/ipad-headed-to-atandt-and-verizon-retail-stores-on-october-28th/) both there and at Verizon retail stores. We have just been told AT&T stores have started receiving iPad display models, iPads for sale, and iPad display accessories. There won't be a separate display area for the iPads, the tablets will be positioned right next to existing handsets.Combined, the two wireless giants will offer an additional 4,200 distribution points for the iPad, with AT&T offering only 3G-capable models while Verizon offers only Wi-Fi models to be sold either alone or in bundle with MiFi mobile hotspot devices.

Yeah, well except for the 5 year contract they signed with Apple to continue making office.
Even if that weren't the case, Apple is GAINING market share. Those are people that don't have office for Mac. Why would Microsoft shoot itself in the foot. People forget that Microsoft and Apple aren't actually in direct competition. Not until Apple releases OSX openly on any box.
Yes, Parallels and VMware are better products, but that is not the point. Has no one else noticed the number of products Microsoft is canceling for the Mac. I do not believe that Microsoft sees a market for the Macintosh. This of course is purely a business perspective.
I for one think Apple will be taught a lesson in respect. The only logical solution is to kill off Mac Office universal binary support. If they want to run on the Intel platform, they can run on emulation.
It would not be much of a loss if Microsoft decided to pull the plug. Don't think they haven't taught about it. A three percent market share or 19 million desktop users does not even come close to the numbers that still use Windows 2000, never mind Windows 98. I of course don't wish this to happen, but it is one logical outcome.

Centris 660av, PowerMac 6100, Performa 6116, Quadra 660av, same form factor. These have been desirable systems in the past, but good luck selling a machine with no hard drive.

With such high praise of the iPhone 4's industrial design, I would be surprise if Apple decided to get rid of it for something new in just a year. It would be a waste too as it still feels fresh to a lot of people. Not to mention it will be very hard to beat (if there is a new redesign).
Even the original iPhone form factor stayed for 3 generations.

Just want to say that if you are using CS5 I would not recommend the current Mac Mini - I just think it is too slow. At least if you are going to have a browser/code editor or whatever else open in the background too.
I have a laptop with a C2D processor and also run CS5 and multitask and it is definitely a bit on the slow side.
The processors in the current Mac Mini range are pretty rubbish tbh (especially for the money).

I agree with the current naming scheme.
Would it be worth making an Analysts category rather than using a directory page? Then we don't have to manually update it every time a new analyst is added.

Just wait for the releases by Otterbox and Switcheasy. Those will be your best bets.
Switcheasy has a silicone case, but they will most likely release a hard shell case in the future (I would assume, at least.)
