Who didn't see this coming? Microsoft is crashing...hard!!!
Continuing to make a product that isn't selling would be more likely to crash a company than to kill it off and move the service to products that are selling, no?

I'll tell you what I've told everybody, this is not an AT&T problem. I have the Atrix and I have NEVER dropped a call in Saint Louis. My friend has the iPhone 4 and another has the 3GS in Saint Louis and they CONSTANTLY cannot connect Call Failed or drop calls.
It's the iPhone man.
Living outside of the US it's funny as the dropped call thing always seems to affect American users the most yet people leap to the conclusion it is a problem with the phone. I have owned the original iPhone, 3G and iPhone 4 in the family and no issues here in the UK with dropped calls on any of the phones.
Obviously had a few dropped calls over the years but it is not that frequent. I did notice that the iPhone had worse reception in very low signal areas (all Models) compared to my Dad's old Nokia which has a small external transmitter but then again that Nokia beats every smart phone I have ever seen for reception.
Although I don't think any device with an internal antenna is going to out perform one with an external antenna but taking the rest of the world into account AT&T are definitely a factor in the dropped calls as they seem to be way more frequent in the USA on AT&T than other service providers around the world.

I looked at the Bluetake 500 that you have McGarry...looks pretty good...how much?
I got it at a local store for $50. But I have seen it online for as low as $38-40, plus shipping maybe. I found the best prices on CNET's comparison tool.
eCost (www.ecost.com/ecost/shop/detail.asp?dpno=493694) seems to have them on some sort of promotion that appears to bring the price closer to $30. I say "seems" and "appears" because it involves some sort of savings club membership. Apparently free shipping too. I've never bought from them.

I honestly don't think we will see iOS 5 until the iPhone comes out. Which with the release of the white iPhone 4 probably won't happen until Q4 2011 or Q1 2012.
2 funny as if the jailbreak speculation timeframe wasn't enough now we need to add in speculation for iOS 5

If I were an MS shareholder, I would be OUTRAGED.
How much did they pay for that? To be fair, I don't recall if MS bought just VPC or all of Connectix, but it hardly matters!
That's got to be a giant pile of shareholder wealth pissed away in a half-assed attempt at being part of (read: smothering) the increasing popularity and utility of Apple.
I would really love to see the numbers on that boondogle.
The connectix deal wasn't a 'boondogle' at all - connectix had other products than VPC. MS Virtual Server is based on the code they got from connectix. The server virtualization market is absolutely huge compared to VPC's potential market. I'm sure to Microsoft, VPC was a drop in the bucket in terms of revenue, and if I were a shareholder, I'd be happy as hell that they dropped it.
You're not the only one to point this out:
They got their value out of Connectix in Virtual Server. Like it or not the Mac stuff was just the tip of the iceberg.
So, I'll say that my outrage (which was at best hypothetical) has subsided substantially. :o
Just goes to show what happens when one thinks the world revolves around him-/herself. I suppose my only exposure to Connectix was with VPC -- turns out my whole experience was some kind of also-ran footnote. Oh, well....

hello
a little over a year ago i blew $2000 on the parts to build my 2200MHz P4 system, and it was the fastest pc i had ever used. then 3 weeks later my brothers 700MHz iMac comes in, i played with it a little, and it completely blew my computer away. my computer ran well for a few months, then i had the first major crash, lost all my data, for no good reason. then i got another few good months out of it, and i got another major crash, and lost all my data, again, for no good reason, both situations i merely tried to turn it on. so my next genious idea was to put linux on it. ran better then it ever did before, except it wasn't compatable with any of my stuff. so since it is a dual boot with mandrake and xp, i find my self using xp the most because i can't do anything on linux. amazingly, i have yet to get another major crash, but every 10 minutes it finds a way to screw something up.
i pretty much decided to switch the moment i first sat down at my brothers iMac, but i just always assumed i'd keep this one for awhile, and maybe just get an iBook or something to go with it. but after all of that fun i just got done rambling about, i'm never using a pc again. i'm selling this and buying my brothers iMac(he's getting a powerbook), and when powerbook G5 comes out i'm gonna get one of those too.
my only question i guess is about vpc. i read in another thread right here that 98 performs the best, so i'll probably get that, but i was wondering how well it can run games, because thats about 75% of why i want it to begin with, and if it can't play games very well, then i would need to reconsider buying it[vpc] or not.

Why would it not be? If you apply a 90% rate evenly to the top percentile, seems to me it would be quite fair. It would help fund the government assistance programs that will make it easier for him to survive on a paltry $500 million.
There has to be some incentive to work harder. Taxing him at 50% or so would be OK though.

Do you have pictures? Curious about the refinish! How much did it cost you to do?
I'll be posting the pictures later on tonight. I'm currently at work and don't have access to them. As regards the finish I did it myself and it really helps. As you know the chrome scratches extremely easy.

i was wondering why there wasn't any particular 9/11 thread. i only actually realised what date it was a few mins ago..
on the day..i was in school - we started our lesson at 2.40 - the teacher came in and explained what had happened. i think after a while most staff realised nobody was going to do any work so they shuffled us all (everyone aged 13-18, so around 800 of us) into the main hall and hooked up a projector to the tv.
i remember everything like it was just yesterday. everyone trying to look for an excuse to get off school the next day..
one thing that's always really bad with events like this is the uncertainty. nobody ever really has the facts at the start (even the news channels) so your imagination runs kinda wild..

A bunch of Microsoft's Zune "engineers" (which train do you drive?) live in my building. They're complete jerks, and aggressively vulgar toward anyone they see with an iPod.
I hope they enjoy listening to their precious Zunes while standing in line at the unemployment office.
DIAF, boys and girls.

The iPad is a direct competitor to consoles.
I plug it into my TV, grab my iPhone, and play games till I die ;)
What?
You're kidding me.
I'm sorry, I can see making the compromise of having only a touch screen for the iphone as it is more portable than the handheld games so you get advantages too with the iphone (you already are carrying it cause it's your phone as well, it's smaller and therefore more portable, the games are already loaded so no trying to either carry all the cartridges or pick what games you bring. Makes up for the lack of physical buttons).
But no way would I pick an iPad over a console for at home play.
1. The compromise of not as good controller for what advantage does the ipod have over a console? I'm not worried about portability with a console so that doesn't make up for it. So what advantage does an ipad have over a console that would get people to pick it for playing games over the console? The only advantage I could see is if you already owned the ipad. Even then I think I'd rather just buy the console extra. For me if I had to choose between the two, I'd pick the console. I already have a laptop that if I had to carry something ipad around I'd rather have the laptop, I have my iphone for being with me everywhere, and a console will have better games and a better gaming experience (real controllers anyone? Games made for it are specifically aimed at people who bought the thing to play games). And even if I had an ipad, I'd still want either the Sony Playstation or the Microsoft Xbox for actual playing of more serious type games.
2. The compromise of the games just aren't as good. Sorry, but no game on the iphone/ipad compares to the stuff they make on consoles. You're still getting the compromise of making the game more for a handheld market so it's not as complex/in depth. I'd bet the games on the new Sony handheld coming out are much closer to console quality (cause that is what htey seem to be specifically aiming the device at). Plus it has buttons!!!! I'd pick that over an ipad for trying to replace my console.
Sorry, but until they make dedicated controllers for game playing for the ipad (and not touch based only ones, gotta have buttons too and a joystick) and attract more serious type games comparable to what you see on the consoles, I don't see the ipad being a big rival to consoles.

Weird. All three of my W7 boxes (DIY PC desktop, 2009 MBP and 2008 uMB) installed W7SP1 perfectly via Windows Update.
Have you tried downloading the update as an ISO?

I have noticed that my iPhoto took up nearly half of my 640GB HD, I had 24K pictures. I did some house cleaning and removed lots of albums to folders on the HD and removed the pictures from iPhoto. After cutting out 18K pictures reducing the library to only 6K, iPhoto still took 220GB, my masters were only 56GB.
I found there was a folder with over 158GB, full of tens of thousands of photos, even ones deleted years ago.
I am now using Aperture 3, thanks :apple: for the good price. I now import folders and keep all my folders organized into separate folders by title. I hated the way iPhotos organized.
it is good to recover so much of my HD back.
I have now taken charge of my images and videos, importing separately, rather than using Aperture or iPhoto, then organizing them, then importing them into Aperture or iMove when I need too.
