    that was pretty interesting.
I was talking some days ago with a professor @ school who is, i have to admit, the only real mac fan above 30 i know. ;-) well there are certainly some on the boards ,-)
well but what he told me was:
I m only buying apple computers, as they are the best. they are expensive, but anyways. You only live once ;-)
i had to think of that discussion when i read the story. pretty amusing.

    Tired of Apple's locked ecosystem

    Switching to Android.

I travel to China half of the year, I NEED and unlocked phone so that i can pop in my Chinese SIM card when i'm there.

iPhone is just not for me.

FU Apple.... so much for Freedom in the US.

Yeah, Android phones can be unlocked relatively easily. I unlock Captivates and Vibrants a lot without having to go back to the original carriers.

    Hello Everyone!

I recently joined MacRumors! Anyway, I want to ask the opinion of everyone.

Do you think the iPod Classic will get an update? Someone stole my iPod August 2010 and I haven't had the money to get a new one. But since it is my birthday, my family told me they'll buy me a new one.

Am really a music person. Am not so much into apps and stuff. But, most of my friends are telling me to just get an iPod touch since it is sooo much better than the iPod classic.

So, I was wondering if anyone can help me decide if I'll buy an iPod now or wait for September? and, which iPod to buy? Classic or Touch.

    Thanks!! ;)

This is a very promising application and makes buying the 30" cinema display more feasiable for the average mac user.

i hope apple notices its development and i hope some sort of investment is made......image a OSX media center edition (like WMCE 2005) that would really cheese M$ off

You won't be able to find a display with resolution of 2560x1600, which is the maximum res of Mini, for 350$. Those go for around 1000$ at least. The best you can get is 1920x1080, or 1920x1200 if you're lucky.

I think you should try opening it and saving it with a different image editor. See if that works. Just a suggestion.

Is the file really a jpeg? Is it CMYK or RGB?
Yeah, it looks like the image is CMYK. I don't know if changing it will fix the problem, but it should be RGB either way.

    People seem to keep forgetting:

E911 support on cellphones is handled via a built in GPS receiver. Usually users don't know its there, and cannot access it.

    This sounds like the iPhone.
    E911 GPS: Check
    GSM: Check
    Music: Check
    Camera: Check

Not huge news. The only thing it tells us is the limitation most providers put in place regarding what the GPS is available for is removed.

Hey guys, I seem to have gotten myself into quite a little unfavorable situation. My computer was going through some irregularities so I decided to reinstall the OS. I popped in my Mac OS X 10.4 Disc 1 disc and proceeded. I later found out that my Disc 2 was no where to be found, and that my computer would remain at a standstill until I find Disc 2. So I tried to use the one Tiger DVD that came with my other Mac, but that didn't work.

Is there anything I can do? My girlfriend has Mac OS X 10.4.2 Disc 1 & 2; would the Disc 2 of 10.4.2 work with my current re-installment of 10.4?

And lastly, do you think I could bring my Mac to the Apple Store and see if they have a corresponding disc, so that I may finish installing the OS?

If you guys/gals have any advice or thoughts, they are very much welcomed

    Thanks.

As the earlier post said base system is on disk , disck 2 general mac osx 9 and stuff. Anyway you can boot from DVD and then use the disk utilities from the instal menus to wipe the disk and reinstall. (May be a reboot after you make some changes to the HD)

One thing I've noticed is that DW8 seems a tad bit slower at rendering then MX2004, could be just me but I've noticed it so far. Flash 8 font rendering THANK GOD!!! - I love the new anti alias settings for the fonts but I still havent tested whether they fixed the pixel font problem (blurry text if its not on a whole pixel number like 425.3 or 425.8 instead of 425). Flash 8 Video Encoder - Easy to use but the power lies in Flash 8 when you import the .flv video. Havent tried Fireworks 8 yet Im not a big FW fan and prefer Photoshop.

Being on the westcoast, it was around 6:30 when i found out. The only reason I was up then was because I had to go to school early for band.

My grandfather whos always up at 5 in the morning watching the news and stuff , called us and told us to turn on the tv. It was just after the first building had been hit. I remember the feeling of horror while watching them collapse. It was like watching a movie. It was so hard to believe that this was actually happening.

Being in 5th grade, when I got to school there were a bunch of kids that were really immature about it. Some people were joking about it being world war 3. :(

My uncle that lives in manhattan said he stood on the roof of his building and watched the whole thing. I can't imagine how horrible that must have been.

Don't think of a job interview just in terms of skills and knowledge. Try and put yourself in the head of the manager who will be your boss. The ideal candidate would be someone super smart, helpful etc... but a manager's fears when they interview are:
    - the new recruit will need a load of supervision
    - they will do or say something costly or embarrassing
    - they will undermine the team, or fail to work with others in a positive and helpful way

So while you're answering questions and showing off your knowledge, also throw in stuff which will reassure that you're 'not that guy'.

Yojiirill needs to check out Pinkerton.
    Raditude is fun though.

Pinkerton is their best album. But the first 3 were all good. After that, it all goes down hill fast.

In answer to his other question, whether the backlit keyboard will make a re-appearance in the next MBA ... I would say the jury is out.

Some are convinced there are technical reasons why the blk isn't in the current model, and those same reasons will prevent the inclusion of the blk in the next MBA.

I, on the other hand, along with others, don't agree with that assumption, and think there's a decent chance the next MBA will in fact have a backlit keyboard.

Yes, I agree. Like the lock switch on the iPad, this is frequently requested (according to this and other Mac sites).

Bit of advice needed please. I'm in need of a system for creating web galleries that's, to put it bluntly, foolproof. What I'm really after is something that conforms to the following criteria:

     Free.
Will run on a Linux server (can use SQL/PHP etc).
Will allow me to upload the images to the correct directory via FTP, and run a script to create the gallery. (I could just manage to get my computer illiterate Dad to master this, as I've spent the past two years getting him to learn basic FTP.)
It doesn't have to resize the images on the server, for sake of uploading speed that will be done on the local computer before uploading.
Will conform to a pre-defined template once the images are uploaded and the script is run (basically foolproof).

If anyone could direct me to anything which sounds like it's suitable, it would be appreciated. Google searches have not proved fruitful, it's one of those things where finding a useful search string is incredibly difficult.

    Ta.

I loved the Blue Album, but the other album I tried from them, the Green Album, I didn't really like. Still, this is half the price, so I downloaded it anyway :p

Man, I have no self-control when it comes to music

Reminds me of a dream I had a little while ago about getting really drunk and getting ****** tattood on my shoulder, that would've taken some explaining:o

Ok Lethal, Thx. Thats pretty much what I thought, which brings me back to my question- Can I use my Radeon 9000 to render the graphics and still be able to Video out on a Radeon 7000?

Interesting. None of these features are "big" as far as selling points/innovations go - no expos, etc. I don't expect unreleased features to be huge for 10.5, and so it seems like the OS will probably not get great reviews or have a whole lot of possible selling points. But that doesn't mean I don't think these features are unimportant or won't help sell a bunch of computers -- actually, exactly the opposite. Leopard brings the software up to the hardware, increasing the overall user experience, and increasing the benefit of new technologies. Without these kinds of updates, more cores doesn't actually mean much faster, and higher resolution screens don't mean more readable, better screens. These innovations in software set the hardware free to do whatever it can. Will my powerbook get much better with the new OS? No. Will new macs look much better in apple stores, and run faster with the same specs? Yes. Even though techies will understand these features, it wil be nontechies who buy the computer because of them, because they don't have to turn anything on, but get a better feel in their computing experience.

    Which brings up two questions-

    1. Does anybody know how far this resolution independence goes? Meaning, if finder and the dock are the only things that are resolution independent, but office, ilife, etc. still turn tiny, no thanks. But does carbon and cocao mean that apps built on those (which/how many apps) will automatically be scalable?

    2. How does resolution independence and multicore usage compare between leopard and vista?

I guess this is good of a thread as any to ask..

I have more than generalist and less than master knowledge of print and video production. I work for a university and have a multimedia development position... I preface with "work for a university" because I have one of those jobs where it is more beneficial to have very broad ranging knowledge of most production technologies (for web, for video, for print) than having very specific knowledge.

i.e. one day I am developing a Flash application, the next I am working in After Effects or Motion, the next day I have Photoshop or Illustrator up. Anyway...

Part of my job is running a multimedia lab which is available to the campus staff, faculty and students to do production work. A mix of Mac Pros and Power Mac G5s with 23" ACDs. My question is two fold:

To video folks: For those of you working with motion graphics, particularly in HD (lets just say 1080p to be safe), do you find the response time on the ACDs to be sufficient for working with HD content? How about full screen HD playback?

Also, I'm considering getting a 17" MBP (soon, I'd like to wait for a refresh but the money isn't coming out of my personal coffers); what is your feeling about it pumping out HD content to a 30" ACD? The ACD would actually be for home use with the MBP. How does it perform pushing HD content?

    Thank you kindly!
