11" MBA... $1000...
You didn't expect this?
I was a buyer within the first week... I absolutely utilize the heck out of it with work & everything else. Only thing I wish they had on it - would be a backlit keyboard. Besides that, I am more than happy with everything - CPU, GPU, 4GB of RAM, and the battery life is great!
I was looking for this years back... next item I am looking for is Apple to start putting dedicated powerful GPU's in the MacBook Pro 13".

What a news story. Closest the "article" comes to a source is "supposedly".
Why would he release a jailbreak for 4.3 tomorrow when 4.3.1 is imminent? A vulnerability was found publicly at pwn2own that needs to be patched by Apple. Burning another vulnerability would be dumb. Sorry, just sayin'. It's not gonna be tomorrow.
I'm sure whoever posted the link to yet another lame !@#$@ iphone blog is just trying to drum up business for their site.
Oh what a surprise, ad banners and no news.
You know it's a crap site they are posting when they have to obscure their domain name using a url shortener.
Another person added to my ignore list. They clearly have nothing to add to any discussion here.

I've long been stuck on analog NTSC crap, and I'm considering buying a Sony HDR-FX1, which is a high-definition video camera. However, when I try to play back the 1080i movie trailers from Apple's site, it's slightly choppy. If my PowerBook has a hard time handling HD playback, will I be able to capture HD in FinalCut Pro?

I've tried JetPhoto and it's a dream!
It's has a really nice client on the Mac that integrates with iPhoto and, once set up, gives one click uploading via FTP. The server is a simple PHP script.
It offers some very nice goodies like a flash gallery, a choice of themes and GPS technology integration.
Oh ... and it's free.

This looks nothing short of ridiculously brilliant, and seems to be exactly what I'm after. Can't try it until this evening, but I think you've just solved my problem.
Many thanks. :)

I have a 2009 Mac Mini. I recently upgraded the RAM, and while I was working in the Mini, the Bluetooth antenna cable became detached. I've tried to reconnect it, but the Bluetooth no longer works in the device. This is the extent of my knowledge of the problem.
Unfortunately, the warranty expired a few weeks ago, and regardless of that, I'm the one who hosed it so it's my burden to bear.
One local Mac repair shop here in Austin quoted me "about" $40 plus parts (if necessary) to repair it.
Is that about right? Any former geniuses here know about how much Apple would charge for this out-of-warranty fix?
I will call Apple -- but I want to be prepared, which is why I'm polling this trusted community.

I have one and have yet to pick up any games for outside of the game it shipped with. I refuse to buy the crappy titles they have for it, I'm not looking at this like I do for the launching of a new system, where I will put up with sub-par games. I want good games for it. Its a neat piece of hardware with all of potential, but I'm not wasting 50 dollars are sub-par games.
But I do like the look of the sequel to Rez, looks pretty fun.

I was getting the oil changed in my car and was in the customer lounge when the first plane hit - and stayed to see the second one hit. I then left for work and got in an argument with my boss, who saw no reason to cancel an architecture meeting we had planned.
The meeting was cancelled - the room was being used by employees to watch CNN.

take it easy on them, they saved apple's ass in the 90's. if it weren't for them apple would have gone 'rupt. they also have to worry about a thousand different hardware configurations whereas os x 10 has to worry about the mac line.. give 'em a break. (not an ms fanboy)
It's my understanding that Microsoft's cash infusion was more symbolic than anything else and helped forge a relationship that included the much more important agreement to continue making Office for the Mac. Furthermore, Microsoft was worried about a DOJ investigation and ensuring that Apple would continue on keep that particular dog quiet.
Microsoft has never done anything out of charity; there's always been profit in the company's actions and they deserve to get thumped a little bit.
That said, the MS programmers have a very difficult problem to solve, much of it created by people who worked on Windows more than a decade ago.

Nobody knows. We will likely know when Steve plans next years Macworld. If it is at SF, there is a good chance it will always be at SF.
Apple doesn't put on Macworld. There used to be two Macworlds, one in SF in Jan. and another on the East Coast in the summer. The Boston show disappeared a few years after Apple stopped going to that one. The WWDC is now Apple's summer event.

700 quids for 30"???
Hahaha, this is Apple, man - grease up and bend over, you'll get raped brutally if you need anything high-end or close to it.
Sometimes I wonder why would anyone buy any additional HW from Apple, their prices are so laughably off, so jacked-up while they don't offer anything extra - let alone when rather less - over any competing product.
You want the world's best 30" display for TV or any other video stuff? Go and get the Gateway 3000 for $1.5k, it even has the HQV Reon scaler chip on-board, nothing can touch it, that's for sure. You want good colors? Try any of those 92% NTSC gamut displays (e.g. Dell 3007WFP-HC or HP) for ~$1k.
All of these sport lot more ports and features than Apple displays, lower pricetag and better performance. Other than 'matching' purposes - my fav Apple Store quote is "it's best to use a Mac with an ACD" ROFL - nowadays it makes zero sense to waste money on any Apple display, I think.
How this will change with new products coming form Apple, I don't know but Apple's less-than-stellar track record - brutally overpriced yet rather mediocre releases, first runs always pagued with stuff like 'pink problem' etc - doesn't make me think they will do anything revolutionary at this time but who knows...:)

Very nice!
There a few things I'd have done differently, and that's probably true for many of us who do this stuff for a living, but I don't think any of it is wrong at all. The HTML and CSS code appear to be logical and reasonably well commented, both of which are admirable.

Heres the thing the new wireless spectrum actually is WiMax, to those who don't know what WiMax is, pretty much some people say its WIFI on steroids. Also the fact that if Tmobile is talking to apple it may have to do not only with Iphones but laptops. Wimax works in a way that you can have broadband connections up to 75mbps. So if Tmobile is talking to Apple they are probably going to design a chip or something so that people who buy apple then sign on to Tmobile and will have access to the internet with extremely high speeds anywhere in the US. :) What Tmobile is doing has more to do with Laptops than it would with Phones. Think of it on WiMax you can have IPTV and VOIP running and still surf the net. Not only that Intel and Motorola invested over 1 billion into Clearwire, INTEL IS designing new chips for WIMAX. I dont think this has to do with the Iphones.

heh... not that anyone actually cares... since it is all based on feel.
The new design actually starts slightly higher on the page than the old design and the middle column story actually isn't significantly elongated.... at least in this sample resolution

For which system?
Also the reason for the M rating should be listed on the game. Your parents can decide what they think is appropriate for you based on the content, and not just the rating. If they are worried about you seeing nudity or sex, then you should stay away from Bioware games.
There is nudity in Bioware games? I've seen the illusion of sex, where they "do it" but you don't see a thing, and no nudity (Mass Effect, DAO)

i liked your first one better and i will be voting - silly question where do i buy the apple font btw?
Will you take a genuine Apple mousepad instead? :)
The font, Myriad Pro, is available form Adobe for $30, though if you have any Adobe CS apps it should've come bundled. Do a spotlight search, click the font, and select 'install font' when fontbook launches.
Hope I didn't just give away a trade secret! :p :D

Another stunning set of results, only thing that anyone might nitpick is iPad sales but considering some were holding on for the iPad 2 and that product was DEFINITELY supply-limited it's still a superb performance and more than doubles their PC sales. Decimates the rest of the tablet space that's for sure and the q3 performance is going to be VERY interesting.

Thanks, you've really helped out.
One question that does come across though is once I flash the card with EFI and select the SSD as a boot drive from an existing OSX install I will want to install Mac OSX fresh on this now bootable SSD and ditch the default OSX installation on which I chose the SSD as the boot drive. Can I do this? Or must I clone the existing OSX install onto the new SSD drive first?
I was thinking after making the SSD boot drive I could simply boot off the OSX install discs and install OSX on this SSD?
You can do it either way.
Cloning is easier (already has both the OS and card drivers installed), but if you want a clean installation, you use the install disks, then the disk that came with the RAID card (card settings are on the card).
Another alternative, is start clean on the existing OS disk, then clone (this would should be more "fool proof" than trying to use the DVD installation disks directly to the SSD, as you could potentially run into an issue setting the SSD as the boot location if that's not already set (which makes a change in the system's firmware).
It's going to be a new system with no important data, so I don't care about cloning the existing OSX install which comes on the 1TB HDD with the 8-core 2010 Mac Pro. In fact I am going to pull that drive out altogether.
If the current installation isn't cluttered with things you no longer want/need (i.e. just the OS and RAID card drivers), creating a clone would be the fastest and easiest way to go.
If it is cluttered with crap you no longer want (reason for a clean OS X installation), see above.
Perhaps I am complicating things too much here and after flashing the card to EFI, I can just shut down, take out the original 1TB HDD with OSX. Start the PC, launch the Areca EFI RAID BIOS menu with the right key press, put the 2x SSD's in pass through mode and 4x 3TB in RAID5. Afterwards just boot off the OSX cd and it will see the 2x SSD drives and the RAID5 volume and just install OSX on one of the SSD's like I want? Will I have troubles installing Win 7 through bootcamp on the 2nd SSD drive when its running off the Areca in pass through mode ?[/QUOTE]
Put the Windows disk on the ICH (system's SATA ports), as the card cannot dual boot like that in a MP (been tried before and has never worked).
Other than the Windows disk, it will work.
Also maybe you know, for installing 2x 6G SSD's in the 2nd 5'25" optical bay I obviously need either the OWC multimount adapter bracket 2.5 to 5.25 or other, but for power do I need a SATA power Y splitter or something to get power to both SSD's ? Both of these will be connected to the Areca in pass through mode, the length of the included miniSAS cable should be fine to reach to the SSD's in the optical bay right ?
Well, since one of these needs to be connected to the DATA portion of the backplane cable and you need to split the power off for the OS X SSD (presume this is to be both the OS X and Windows disk locations, as it's the most logical), then do the following:
How to make a cable that retains both the DATA and splits power to multiple drives in the empty ODD bay.
Cables to buy:
