does it look crappy like that while you are working in word, or on the finished product? i would assume that word likes to display graphics with a little less quality than what you actually put into them. if you are talking about the finished product, then perhaps you should type your "reports, etc" in word and then get your hands on indesign and put all of your text into there.

Has any one else noticed, or has it already been pointed out, that on the iCal image on the apple.com Leopard preview site
http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard/ical.html
we see the iCal app open but the little black triangle under the icon in the dock is missing.
Just like the finder triangle on the MBP box.

Right now I can buy 8 gigs of PNY RAM (4gb x 2) for $50 on Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?SID=u999238t2878689f9fp0dd0c0s701&AID=10440897&PID=1225267&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-cables-_-na-_-na&Item=N82E16820178335 , Coupon Code: "NEWGEEK10" for new customers) but I've read some mixed reviews. Anyone have personal experience with PNY RAM or can recommend a better brand to buy from? I'm new to installing RAM.

For some reason I don't think that last video is legitimate. He never showed that it actually downgraded the OS after all that "updating".

Good god, are you seriously suggesting that if you don't need a 2560 x 1600 resolution you don't need a computer? Hahaha... just quit while you're behind, man.
If you're just using it for movies, music and browsing. Does it make sense?

Either way, they seem to be alright value and about as good as any other 240GB 6G drive on the market now. I was going to get an OCz but after reading an OWC article on how OCz supposedly uses off-spec NAND chips it really put me off the idea :)
I'd skip the OCZ drives from what I've seen as well.
I believe I have found a place to source some X5690 for cheap, but they are being pulled from an Dell R710 server. Have you any idea if the chip design for the Dell R710 is the same as retail or altered somehow/specific like the HP DP X5690 with a different IHS etc.. like in the below link?
http://www.buy.com/prod/hp-xeon-dp-x5690-3-46-ghz-processor-upgrade-socket-b-lga-1366-hexa/q/loc/101/220240015.html
AFIAK, they're standard (come with an IHS). The photo of the HP P/N supports this as well (standard part, as sold as OEM or Retail).
The only one that immediately comes to mind (no IHS), is with the 55xx parts Apple used in 2009 DP systems. They went to standard parts with the 56xx used on the 2010 DP systems (standard OEM parts with the IHS, and added the latch cover to the socket as Intel designed it). I suspect skipping the latch cover and using naked parts was a failed attempt (by Foxconn actually) at cutting costs, but did away with it due to defect rates from bent pins during the assembly process "eating" those savings due to the expense of rework and waste.

it almost looks like a flower to me...I was torn between fire and flower when I first saw it.
I guess that just kind of describes people's love-hate relationship with XP.

I can't believe people actually fell for it =/
His videos for one could have been 10 seconds long, start cydia, show the bottom lines, done. Not to arse about for 2 minutes filming the edges of the iPad and showing multitouch gestures - yet stops swiping the screen before he gets to cydia.
Even the audio tracks in both of his videos were a dead give away...

Why are lots of other tablets and smartphones described as "iPhone/iPad" killers. It makes it seem like it was made just to compete with Apple's products ... I mean, you never hear Apple's products being called Xoom killers or Galaxy Tab killers, do you?

Hmm... that page is so huge it could almost be it's own category let alone a page. I can seem to add text to that page with no fuss. There might be a cap, but it doesn't appear to be reached yet. You can add a "See Also" section at the end of the page and just link between guides. Just put a * for the bullet point and [[ ]] for the guide you want to link to. E.g. *[[MacBook]].
Also, you might want to make the article more formal, as in it's current state it's more of a giant forum post than a guide. Finally, you have a lot of references to your name and what you own etc. in the article. Now while I think MR should be slapped on the wrist for not really recognising the hard work of some of the editors (like yourself), this doesn't really add anything useful to the article.

Hi,
for all the guys "needing, wanting, must have" the SSDs, read this:
I'm using a SSD (256GB) since over a year (almost two now) in my MacBook and one in another machine since almost a year and they didn't fail yet :-) .... and a good backup is always a must, no matter if you have SSD or HD. I had plenty of HD fail on me - backup is a must no matter what. And as always: do some research about the brand and if possible the model you buy, that will reduce the risk of failing a lot (true for SSD and HD).

Oh, no, it's the other way around. I've been offered one for just shy of $1000 and can't seem to find sufficient information to determine how seriously I should pursue it. It sounds like $1000 is within the established bounds (for collectors, anyway), but better deals often occur?
