Here are a few forums where you can read opinions about video gear for the amateur and semipro filmmaker. There are surely hundreds of others. These should give you a feel for what others were looking for and how they solved their problems.

Or make a deal with your neighbors and share their wireless network.

    Excellent.

Cut-out the under-the-table deal that the manager may have with the sole provider.

(Except that you spelt neighbours incorrectly. This guy's a Brit.)

Just out of curiosity has anyone ever sat down with a meter and figured out what folding costs you in electricty. I shut down a server I ran 24/7 for years (and replaced it with a HP WHS) and realized a $20/month decrease in my electric bill. That server wasn't really doing all that much. It hosted some web sites that no one visted and ran an email server that serviced one user. I imagine had that thing been folding with all its unused cycles (which were many) it would have been much more than $20.

    Hi,

I don't know if i have some kind of super ears or...

But my new 20" iMac (the one with isight build in) makes a very high frequency noise when it is off. Only when it is off actually.

It can be compared to the high frequency noise a normal television makes.

    What about yours??

    Mery Christmas everyone!

    Kind regards,
    Lars Petersen

Sorry, I might have a caused a slight confusion by giving you examples of element access. The term applies equally (or more so in regards to you teacher's question) to how an array is declared.

In the Pascal examples from your Pascal Multi-Dimensional Arrays thread, consider the following Pascal declarations.

    var
    suit : array[1..4] of char;
    rank : array[1..13] of char;
    cards : array[1..4,1..13] of char;

In these declarations the stuff in square brackets can also be referred to as subscripts.

I think your teacher is asking you to think about the data types of these subscripts, particularly in regards to multi-dimensional arrays like the cards array above.

(BTW I actually don't know the answer to this question, because it's Pascal specific, I've forgotten 99% of Pascal.)

So use some of the 185 sources listed at the bottom of Apple's Wikipedia page.

Alternatively, ask what the point of this particular assignment is. Your class's assignments could all be done by your professor in about 5 minutes each; "History of [company]".

bingo. That is the correct way to use Wiki. While wiki can not be used as a source it is a great way to find sources for said project.

every time i read these threads i'm reminded why i don't have an iphone. Yeah, i have many other apple devices, including a 3g ipad, but no iphone. I refuse to be a slave to the man. I wish subsidized devices didn't exist in this country. It reduces competition by locking people into contracts and ultimately holds technology back. Yeah, more people can own the "coolest" phone, but imho the ends don't justify the means.

    agree

I have done almost exactly the same (a Vertex 2 120Gb in a 2008 Mac Pro).

I ordered the 3.5" SSD for exactly that reason, to simplify fitting in one of the two spare disk bays. However, I actually had some difficulty fitting; see this thread:

    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1134200

The way I ended up fitting the SSD seems to have worked fine, and I subsequently ordered a 240Gb SSD which I installed in the same way. Neither of the SSDs came with their own screws, so I used the ones in the Mac's own sleds; if your SSD has suitable screws supplied with it, you may find the fitting rather easier.

    As for installing OS X:

I simply used Disk Utility to copy the original boot drive to the SSD. Prior to doing this, I moved my home folder to a separate data volume (so that I can still boot from the original HD and use the same home directories), but it obviously isn't necessary to do that. This all worked fine.

(I realise that some people advise using different tools to clone the boot volume. I have no experience of this, so all I can say is that Disk Utility worked fine. Cloning is presumably a lot quicker than reinstalling everything from scratch.)

I also applied the TRIM patch, which seems to have worked fine, with no ill effects.

Man, am I glad that I didn't get stuck on this Official Waiting For... list.

Got my ACD in August and have been loving every minute of it. My regular old iSight works fine (and plugs into the back of the monitor). The screen is magnificent and performs beautifully.

What is it that you guys are praying for in an update?

Sure, panels are going to improve but unlike when a computer receives a major architectural update (as with Penryn and even more so with Nehalem), Apple just silently updates their screens all the time. The only major shift that I can see will be when the ACD goes LCD (I don't see that coming too soon for the 30") or perhaps when they introduce an even bigger display at an even bigger price.

So what is it that you all are waiting for? Dive in. The water's fine.

I don`t think changing categories will help your sales much, the best strategy would be sending interesting press releases to sites, blogs, any kind of media that writes about mac world.
Example, once we sent an interesting text about one of our apps to an italian app-covering site, thay published the story, and the downloads went up by almost 1000% in the period of next 10,15 days...

Shouldn't they pay more since they are capable?

Hardly. They should pay more because they owe more. You do not just become a billionaire out of the blue. You do not become a billionaire because of you sweat and hard work. You become a billionaire by working the system. You owe society for providing the opportunity to you, for facilitating your progress, and for helping you protect what you have.

But, you say, when was the last time a poor person created a job for you (or anyone else)? I reply, "Was it a poor person that downsized me, laid me off, shipped my job to Mindinao?"

There is a video that the OP links to now and then, directly or indirectly, in which the speaker asserts that "bastardliness" is a natural human condition, that (his kind) accept this fact and try to work with it. Well I have met poor people and well-to-do people, and when it comes to being nice and kind and helpful and generous, guess which group comes out ahead, hands down? "Natural human bastardliness" is not only not universal, it has a cause (which I think is even mentioned in that bible thing).

Have you given much thought to creating sub-forums for unannounced products like the iPhone 5 or iPad2? That would keep the long list of nearly identical speculation threads from clogging up the main forums.
That would be nice, but it won't work, since people don't read instructions and continually post in the wrong forums, anyway. We could already fill a forum for speculations on the next MacBook/MacBook Pro/MacBook Air/iMac/Mac Mini/Mac Pro updates.

Browsers are evil. More time can be spent "fixing" inconsistencies than actually designing the page. I normally use FireBug to step through page blocks and examine CSS. I've seen IE choke on something as simple as a missed semicolon.

A guess right off the top is that it might be something with the box model. IE tends to interpret things a little differently so check your margins and padding closely. If that fails you might want to start with a blank page and add in components until the page breaks.

By the way: It displays OK in IE8.

At first you won't need more than 1 terabyte. Honestly...also, TWO cores is enough to do heavy photo editing AND listen to music while you're doing it.

Also, keep in mind that harddrives last 5-6 years....CD's and DVD's can last decades. Back up important data to CD's and DVD's and keep them safe...

If you ever go into photography as a pro, and somebody wants a copy of their wedding photos it would be nice if you're able to provide it 20 years after the occasion. Photo prints don't last hundreds of years, eventually the prints may need to be reprinted :)

    Keep these things in mind.

This statement is just wrong on so many levels.

Hardware speed is nice, but network access is the big thing for phones. Don't believe me? Switch off your 3G and spend a few days on the EDGE network and see how much fun your iPhone is.

Buying another 3G phone is just asking to be left behind by everyone else as LTE/4G is deployed and new apps become dependent on the high-speed connection that it offers -- it's akin to being the last person in the store to buy a regular DVD or VHS player.

Thanks, Apple, but no thanks. I'm not going to be tied a two year service agreement for an outdated phone made of a fragile material with reception issues. No LTE/4G = No sale as far as I'm concerned.

YOUR last paragraph: well said ... i love the 4, i love using it every day as i do.. but with that kind of use,, it's almost a given that you have to replace a normal phone within 13-16 if you are an individual with average to normal clumsiness.. i mean this hot little glass brick is in my pocket all day every day.. the only thing that wears more on my person is my face...

While not as simple as OS 9 you can play mp3's Wav Snd Aif Mov files directly in preview mode. There are 2 ways to preview a file.

1 Column view in the finder will show a preview and info of a file. If it can be played then it will show a control bar. Just press play.

2 Get info... get the info of a file and you can preview the file in the preview widget of the get info box.

Your desktop is accessible in column view from your home folder.

As for point 2 of your question. What type (format) of files are you trying to download?

Definately not as intuitive as a scroll whell but if Apple couldn't/can't implement it with its engineering prowess I doubt anyone else could.

The 1TB and 750GB drives of that particular model are not industry "standard" SATA drives. That Micro-B connector is attached directly to the mainboard of the hard drive. Instead of having a SATA interface connected to a USB board, it just skipped the SATA interface. This saves cost for WD and means you cannot take this drive out of the enclosure and use it in your MBP.

Thank you for the straight forward answer google sent me in loops for hours :).
I suppose what I'm looking for are these 1tb wd scorpio or samsung spinpoint drives, anyone have any recommendations?
