Apple doesn't put on Macworld. There used to be two Macworlds, one in SF in Jan. and another on the East Coast in the summer. The Boston show disappeared a few years after Apple stopped going to that one. The WWDC is now Apple's summer event.
More precisely, the Boston show moved to New York City. After September 11, they people behind the show wanted to move it back to Boston and Apple refused to participate for some reason.

Do you remember USB 1.1? The USB 1.1 port and plug look like a USB 2.0 port and plug, but a USB 1.1 port/plug will not deliver USB 2.0 speeds when one connects a USB 2.0 device to a USB 1.1 interface.
The same goes for the MDP and TB interface.
While TB might look like MDP, they are not the same.

Hi,
I've started using OSX again, as nothing in Linux compares to Aperture for photo management (still have an Ubuntu server, as for serving stuff, it's pretty great) and I'm going through putting my meaningful photos into Aperture, a day shoot at a time. I've only gotten part of the way through my library, only finishing May but I feel like this will be a worthwhile exercise for me and that if I continue with this, when importing from my camera, I will have a nicely indexed library with useful keywords.
I'm using a date based folder and project hierarchy, and importing each day with IPTC tags appended which include keywords and City, State/Province, Country.
This is a shot of the hierarchy I'm using:
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5019/5509005948_a52765fb0c_b.jpg
And the metadata I'm using:
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5213/5509006014_432a416198_b.jpg
Is there an automatic way to get the City, State/Province, Country information into 'Places'? Otherwise, I can at least just do a search for photos in a certain place and then manually give them their locations...
Thanks!

The replacement TiBook could well have 2 or 3 dead/stuck pixels so you could end up worse off.
Maybe try massaging it out with your finger and a soft cloth, you can do this with suck pixels (red, green, blue) but obviously not with dead ones... (grey/black)
Apple are no different from other companies in this respect though!!

No offense, but you should be doing your own research. The idea of writing a research paper is to, you know, research. Asking people on a forum for sources is taking the lazy way out.

I wonder if we will hit that point first or if cloning technology will make the point moot by growing fully functioning attachable limbs first.

Adobe CS5 Photoshop Classroom in a Book should show you the basics
Amazon link ...
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=classroom+in+a+book&x=0&y=0
shows more than the basics! I got this book for Christmas and it is fantastic. Very easy to follow and if you want to learn specific features it is easy to jump around from section to section.
Classroom in a Book +1 here!
I used the photoshop classroom in a book back when it was Photoshop 5.0. My freshman college digital class was based off that book. I already had experience but the book was a great reference and unlike online tutorials, it explained "why" you do a certain thing not just "how". I highly recommend it.

Funny thing about the new gawker media sites is that they pretty much lost a ton of their traffic after the switch to the new layout.

Also ca.gizmodo.com works fine for me. But I prefer their RSS feed anyway.

Yeah, Office will stay. They said they are committed for at least 5 more years. Office is probably the only Mac software they develop and actually make a decent profit on.
The MBU is one of the more profitable parts of Microsoft, and they want to keep it for the money, for the leverage on Apple, and to avoid the immediate anti-trust lawsuit they'd face if they refused to support OSX.
There's lots of benefits to keeping the MBU alive and lots of downsides to killing it out of spite.
VPC was never really part of the MBU.

As of right now I don't see iWork as a strong MS Office competitor. It is more of a competitor of MS Works (For home use). As far as I have seen it Keynote is the only product in the list that can compete with MS Office (Powerpoint). I would love to see a good competitor to MS Office. But look at the other competitors out there.
Word Perfect (No Modern Mac Port, And the other OS Versions have a lot of technical problems)
Open Office (Too wrapped up in being open source and making the developers look good and less on actually making it a good product)
iWork (Best Interface for most features but lacking in "Pro" Features)
Koffice, abiword (better then MS Write but not by much)
Googles Spreadsheet and Word Processor (Way to limited)
While MS Office still has it faults unfortunately it is still the best product out there.
If you are just writing papers for schooland you want to give your documents a little more style then iWorks is great. If you need to do serious work with heavy calculations and more advanced colarabration then office is still the only bet.

As per the diagram, it's correct (hard to follow the wire colors as the bend around, but it looks right in terms of location as well as color). :)
What you're asking about (backplane cable that splits into two separate connectors with 4 wires for power) do exist (here (http://www.pc-pitstop.com/sas_cables_adapters/I2917-05M.asp)). It's not as clean IMO, but functional, and at least from this link, is more expensive (would have expected it to be cheaper, as they're used more often in PC's). If you look, I suspect you'll be able to locate it cheaper (just make sure you've more than 2 wires on the power connector - only get it if it has 4 power wires).
As per soldering, it's not hard, particularly soldering 2 wires together (buying a stick soldering iron, heat shrink tubing and solder won't be that expensive; should be able to manage it for under $20USD <example (http://www.amazon.com/Weller-SP23LK-Marksman-Watt-Soldering/dp/B0009ZD2AG)>, and it's handy for other projects). You can get a pack of heatshrink tubing from Walmart for under $5USD, and stay around the $20USD mark (as I assume you don't have any of the equipment or supplies to do it based on your aversion to soldering).

Someone was kind enough to provide a V 1.0 but when I tried to put it on the iPad with such software it didn't work. It actually provided a DRM type error. Unfortunately it appears it does have DRM even though it is free. It looks like the only way is for someone to run some software on a working copy on their iPad to be able to clean it up for someone else to use ;(
The 1.0.api has to be uploaded from the iPad through the app I'm referring to. The DRM is stripped during the upload. If I still had my iPad 1 I could do it but I sold it.

I like the design of these better than the G5, and I don't want to spend several hundred dollars more on something that I don't like as well. I want to get the absolute fastest one they made. Would that be a 20" 1Ghz model? Any known issues on these machines? I will be using it for freelance graphic design work. For the last year and a half, I have used my 12" 800mHz G4 ibook (640mb ram), so I know performance will not be an issue. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
-Jason
I believe the fastest iMac G4 (http://www.apple-history.com/?page=gallery&model=imac_usb_2&performa=off&sort=date&order=ASC) was 20" 1.25GHz.

Thanks for the quick reply,
I think the problem is most of the time Phone app is the active window, I don't think I accidentally press the Phone icon and than a contact :/
If I could limit the dialing inside the Phone app it will be great.
Thanks again (:

If you just want a PPC to play with, get a powermac, they are very cheap. In my opinion, G4 laptops are way over priced, unless you get lucky, like I did with my iBook. I also bought a Powermac 933 mgz Quicksilver, with Leopard installed for only $50.
That was a steal
