This has always worked for me, with my PowerBook G4, both my 667 DVI with a Bluetooth Dongle on it, my Alu 1.33, and my parents iMac 24" 2.8.

How does a G4 user tell the Folding server to not send TINKER units to G4 CPUs? Waiting three weeks for a result, when an x86 system could have the unit done in a few days, is inefficient.

If you are running 10.3 or later, the file system is journaled, by default, making the manual use of 'fsck' virtually obsolete. If your filesystem does become corrupt (kernel panic, power failure, etc.), the filesystem journal is used to reconstruct it. If it can't, you probably have a bad disk or a serious low-level bug, neither of which are likely to be repairable by 'fsck'. It certainly doesn't hurt to try running 'fsck' in these circumstance, it's just that you may well be SOL, at that point.

I don't think it's worth it. If you're going to raid1 the drives in the server you'll only be getting 500gb of usable space (- the space used for applications and OS-X). For the $200 saved over the server edition you'd be well on your way to a Drobo style storage solution, or even cheaper, the OWC Mercury Elite dual enclosure which you could use for Raid1 storage anyway.
Unless you have to have OS-X server - save your shekels.

I see, it makes perfect sense.
When the case for my new drive arrives I'll try your solution since my Mac Mini 1.66 Core Duo has been struggling a bit lately (the sad thing is that it's blazing fast on Windows 7, I guess that's because I'm limited to 2GB of RAM and UNIX based systems like OS X improve a lot by adding more)

Reasons why I'm waiting. Note these haven't been confirmed, but I'm thinking
With Thunderbolt connectivity they might:
Add a FW 400 and 800 port
Add USB 3.0 Ports
Add ethernet
Get rid of the USB connecting cable since it could go over Thunderbolt.
In other words, make the ACD almost into a dock.
I'm in the market for 2 ACD's when the revision comes out.

Actually, the big display prices *must* come down soon, because regular 32" tv can be bought for 500 euros nowadays. A display which has HDMI input, which means it can be connected to a DVI computer card rather easily.
Now I don't mean to say that a regular 32" TV that costs 500 would compete with a 30" ACD in terms of colour accuracy or top resolution, but I'm saying if someone wants a big display it can be done for peanuts. And as people discover this they're not going to buy "overpriced" computer displays that are meant for one purpose only.
Yeh sure, if you want a maximum resolution of 1920x1080 on your 50" tv. Sweet. You show me any TV that does 2500x1600.

I, too, had a Western Digital drive that suffered from premature ejection. Never had a problem with internal, only USB. Return before something is lost ;)

Apple makes nice money off every iOS devices they sell. With App store, iTunes store and iBook store, their Software and hardware sales will grow.
Their MBA sales are growing and those devices aren't cheap.
Apple is going to soon have more than 100 billion dollars in their backyard.
Btw, Apple is going to blow away on next Quarter as long as they can launch iPhone 5 on both AT&T and Verizon. Doubt that they will put LTE chip inside, but it will be available on two of the biggest networks in the US. This will not stop.
People will pay good money for good sh**! I do. My jcrew giant fit chinos cost $65.00 a pair now. Up from $59.50. But they are well made with an awesome fit. Same for my New Balance 1223s.
And I like that Apple is slow growing. I see that as self preservation. The pc industry is glutted with crap beyond trash. $99.99 pc in Target.LOL! There is no more value in the pc. That game is essentially over.
Now, just let your imagination soar with the idea of an Apple branded smart HD TV with an app store, ipad 3, iphone 5 and a messaging app for the ipad that rivals MS messenger. OMFG!!!!!

I've never understood the argument against the Air because of it's lack of DVD drive. I have no idea when the last time was I used mine, and it takes up a massive amount of space and weight on my MacBook.
I'm sure some people have uses of a DVD drive and for them its understandable, but I feel most people, myself included fall into the "I can't remember the last time I've used my CD/DVD drive ..." category. Which is why I replaced mine entirely with a SSD drive, which I boot from. I would recommend it to anybody with the available funds.

Hi, I've got a plist file with jpeg photo data in it. I need to get that photo out. I can read the plist file into an NSDictionary and can access the object at the key "jpegphoto". The problem is that the object returned is an NSCFArray that I have no idea how to work with. I can print it and I see a nice stream of octets come out, but that's all I know how to do. How do I get this NSCFArray into NSData or a byte array?
The CFArray when passed to NSLog like so
NSLog(@"%@", [data_dictionary objectForKey:@"jpegphoto"]);
Spits out hundreds of line similar to

I know that it is a CFArray b/c I did

I got a Samsung BX2431 24" with a max of 1080, which I've found really nice. I spent all day in the library using a 24" iMac, so I was able to get a sense for the differences when I got home. The big thing is to calibrate the Samsung properly. Other than that, the Samsung monitor seems to have less color gamut, but is still very bright and almost as sharp.

Hey All :)
I've finally taken a picture I want to make a large print of.
At work I have access to a huge printer that does A0, A1, A2 and A3 prints (americans if you don't use the same paper size tell me and I'll get the measurements, not sure if you do :confused: I'm in the UK..)
I have no idea how large I can print my picture decently.. I have an 18 megapixel 550d and I'd print from a TIFF file which was saved from the CR2 after messing around with it a bit (is that the right thing to do)
Basically I have no idea what kinda size it could go up to, and I don't get DPI and how changing it ends up relative to the photo quality and why you wouldn't just set it at the maximum every time..
So yeah, I'm pretty confused about this, if someone could shed some light on this one that'd be good thanks :)

A screen is made up of little dots called "pixels". A button is, say, 35 pixels wide. I just made that number up, but just pretend.
As screen technology advances, more pixels get crammed in per square inch, making for sharper graphics. Unfortunately, buttons would still be 35 pixels long. Everything would get smaller.
Resolution Independance means that the size of stuff on the screen does not shrink as more dots are added - instead, they simply become sharper, staying their existing sizes.
