Apple's market share of desktops is pretty small, and smaller in the enterprise, but it's high on laptops, very high on the upper end laptops, very high on smartphones, extremely high on portable music players, extremely high on tablets.
And in any case the question is: does Apple make money?
The answer: Yes.

Did you order it from Speck's website? What shipping method did you use? Do you have a estimated delivery date? Thanks.
Ordered from Amazon. Shipping was from 2-5 weeks. It's not in stock. I have an est shipping date of May 5, 2011 - May 25, 2011. That's ok, I'm not in any hurry. Plus I get free super saver shipping.

The store's about 40 miles from me. I'm actually thinking of calling in and doing the shipping-based repair just because the drive is such a hassle.

In the UK we just pay whatever phone network your on 10 (~$16 USD) and they get Apple to activate/unlock it ;)
Much better than the poor excuses for phone networks you get in the US!

I have been looking for a high quality sound dock for my iPhone 4 and to use with airplay and my airport express. Just noticed the Bose SoundDock went on sale for $229 on Amazon yesterday. Lowest price I have seen that at. Anyone have any other recommendations for a quality sound dock under the $250 price range? Or impressions of this Sound Dock?
I actually purchased and returned the SoundFreaq system from target that was $170. Sound was very distorted and low quality, however it did have nice bluetooth feature.
Will be mainly using this in family room. Thanks!

I think the difference here is, with deCSS, once it was out there it was out there - DVDs, as physical objects, were beyond the reach of the studios, and all the various players/drives that were out there made it impossible to do anything about it for DVDs.
With FairPlay though, Apple can 'update' purchased music anytime users download a newer version of iTunes to make sure FairPlay keeps going for anyone who wants to keep buying from the iTunes Music Store.
iTunes update on Tuesday? :p
Can DVD Jon's DRM be so similar to Apple's that when iTunes updates and goes looking for Firplay protected content, it finds content protected by DVD Jon's DRM and updates that too?

An Air is the only laptop I’ll ever buy!
I still have the very 1st-gen (before SSD was economical so I have a plain HD) but it’s enough to run my business off of and do some pretty heavy tasks (Photoshop, Flash, 3D gaming at low detail). The latest models would be just awesome... but I’m waiting for Sandy Bridge before I upgrade.
If someone asked me what computer to get, and I wasn’t allowed to know anything about them, I’d default to recommending a base MacBook Air 11” with 4GB RAM. (Or maybe the 128 SSD, but few people outside of tech forums need more than 64 GB storage so frequently that it can’t be external or wireless. Everyone who can afford a Time Capsule should probably have one!)
Then I’d recommend that if they want a bigger screen, add get a cheap Dell 20-something-inch display and a mouse/keyboard, giving them a desktop experience. Until it’s time to leave the house, when that ultra-compact size is great.
I would generally not recommend the DVD drive. Most people have a DVD player already, and I for one have never needed to pay for a DVD drive in three years with my Air. I do occasionally use Air Disc, though. For free! So I suggest people wait and not get the DVD drive until/unless they need it. (Maybe for re-installing the OS after a catastrophe, if they have no access to another machine with a DVD.)

Panther needs a FireWire 400 supported Mac. That is pretty much the requirement for it, if you have that it will install. If you are having problems it could be your Optical Drive or the Install CD. :)

Congrats. It's a nice job.
In Safari, I'm getting a weird green box when I mouse over the logo at the top left. After mouseover, a red outline box remains.
Edit: It's gone now. Logo is normal.

Yea, my 3Gs is starting to act up a bit. I'm just going to get that replacement back panel and repair my phone so I can sell it...
But my concern is this: What if the iPhone 5 is just a 4.5 (slight spec bump), and since the externals are essentially the same, they could still come out in June. Getting a iPhone 4 now at full price would really bite.
But, what if it DOESN'T come out in June and it really comes out in Sept (still only a 4.5), anyone who waited until June would then only be 3 months away from the 5, and would probably prefer to wait rather then getting a 4 (unless Apple cuts the price a bit). That means those people would have waited 5-6 months while using a rapidly aging phone with a lot of remose for Apple for not being more open with their time table.
With all of these rumors of the timeline shifting, it makes it hard for people who WANT an iPhone to not look towards other options.

I sure hope not. Plus I updated to 4.3.1....I hope that wasnt a mistake.
If you're waiting for a jailbreak, why would you update? If you have done the SLIGHTEST bit of researching on this forum or any jailbreak forum, you would know NEVER to update until it is clear that a jailbreak exist for the firmware that you are updating to.
If the jailbreak doesn't support 4.3.1, you have NO ONE to blame but yourself.

Of course a touchscreen is better for racing, that's why all F1 cars have touchscreens instead of steering wheels nowadays ;)
Don't be stupid. I'm talking about the iphone as a controller. Touch screen is not it's only control.
The racing games I play have you tilt the device to steer (kinda like using a mini steering wheel). And I've fully admitted a steering wheel is a better controller than all of other ones for racing games, but the tilt is still better than the d-pad and even joystick for racing (it's more like using a steering wheel than either).

comex and many others from the dev community have already stated that they were waiting on 4.3.1 to make sure their exploit wouldn't be patched in the new version. Its also speculated that they may have an exploit that may not be patched due to hardware flaws that existed in the first chip (a4).

Hopefully it doesn't rain.
Cool, I'll update soon. Probably leaving in 20 minutes for Walmart to buy some supplies then off to the Apple store.
Yea, it is really Windy in Brigham City now and the Weather report says 70% Precipitation and a chance of Snow tonight with freezing temps.
This is going to play into the "Tonight or Tomorrow" showing up. It's so difficult to decide, Need to bring a Portable heater if I do.

There are those of us with passports who travel intentionally.
As opposed to travelling accidentally? :D
Seriously though, you have my sympathies; roaming rates are horrendous. We often complain about "high prices" here in NZ but we really don't understand how lucky we are; unlocked phones, no falling back to 2G, don't pay for incoming calls...

I guess I'm not particularly surprised, and I wish we could hear all the reasoning that went into the decision (which, of course, we won't). But given that VMware just about owns the x86 virtualization market and has announced its foray into the Mac universe, I imagine Microsoft figured it'd be a lot of work for what figures to be very little profit.
It's not like we don't have options - I can't imagine Virtual PC will be missed. Those of us still using PowerPC processors can still buy VPC 7.

Next step: Microsoft announces they've acquired Parallels, Inc.
Good point - however, a 'top secret' virtual machine inside leopard would mean they have wasted their money.
Does anyone really give a toss about Virtual PC being dead? It was pretty crap anyway.

From Twitter today:
"i0n1c Stefan Esser
I learned the last two weeks that Apple might win the jailbreak war soon, because the jailbreak community is pissing off those doing the work"
Wouldn't surprise me, it is just a bunch of ungrateful and impatient drones.
Anyway, last I heard the iPad 2 (4.3) exploit is still being worked with, and has not been packaged to be of any use to an end user yet.

:o true, sorry about the laziness. I couldn't find anything worthwile so I thought it'd be good to get some advice from the good people at MR. The problem with googling "ASP .NET shopping cart" is that the first 1000 pages or so will be about non-free stuff. Adding "open source" or "free" didn't improve the results that much either. I think I'm going to give PHP another shot since there's tons of open source stuff for it.
well if you did look :P

why do you want to use asp.net and take the extra cost in sql server and windows 2003... you could get web server addition which is cheaper, but you can't beat the linux price, unless you are using shared hosting then your cost is about the same. all you have to do is hope a worm doesn't take out your database or your web server :P
