I just joined MacRumor's seti@home team.
I had communication problems when I tried to connect to folding@home,
but when I have a few minutes, I'll give it another try.
When it works, the Verizon NationalAccess cardbus card is great!
Original core duo mac mini, powerbook g4 (1.67Ghz). Someday I'll load the boinc client on my dual core G5, emac G4, and G4 mini. But not today.

I've been waiting for a reason to stop using MS office but I don't see that happening even with this update. I really want to buy iWork but I feel like I'd have to relearn everything and end up with an inferior program.
I think it is sad how much Apple pushes the fact that Macs can run MS office. It's a slap in the face. Seeing that iWork only has two apps it's understandable they don't mention it in the commercials.
Btw, what was the glitch with Calculator? How do you screw that up?

The screen shots look really cool. Since I have a G5 hooked up to my TV, I think this would work great for what I use it for. Currently I just use a wireless Apple keyboard/mouse in front of the TV, but I want something a little different.

I'm curious as to how the fifth avenue turn out was. This is the first big event at this store that I missed. I was there for its opening day and the iPhone launch. Both were amazing. I just don't see the need to buy leapord right now because I plan on buying a new mac within the year.

Dear all,
I am trying to write a back up scripts for all database at my office; so, I wrote a mysqldump script and trying to use crontab to schedule run the daily backup. However, the backup sql file is generated, but with an empty content. It seems that the cron daemon does run the job, but return an empty file. I tried running the script on command line and it worked just fine (the proper backup script was returned). Why does my backup script work with out problem when I execute it manually from command line but not work from crontab/cron daemon?
All backup scripts and the crontab file were written by root account. Below is my short back up script and the crontab file:
sh-3.2# crontab -l
55 11 * * * root /bin/sh /Volumes/Pharmakon/bin/backup/database.sh
sh-3.2#
sh-3.2# more /Volumes/Pharmakon/bin/backup/database.sh
/usr/bin/mysqldump -u root --password=xxx --all-databases >/Volumes/Pharmakon/backup/databases/backup.sql
sh-3.2#

I have a 2006 mini I use as an HTPC, the fan is louder than I'd like it to be but it's running at a normal RPM so there's not much I can do about it. My sister has a 2010 mini and I noticed it's much quieter than mine, nearly silent. So I was wondering if anyone knows if the fan model used in the 2010 would work in a 2006?
Maybe you already tried this, but I have a 2005 mini and I opened it yesterday, because I never did it and was curious. Ofcourse there was a bunch of dust inside it and after giving it a quick blowthrough it was much quieter. Probably means you 1) need less RPM to cool sufficiently (although you said it's running at normal frequency), and 2) less noise will be generated at the same RPM level. Get some decent pressured air (canned or perhaps some sort of pump) and you'll get probably better results than I did.
If you (like I did) never cleaned it, it's only to be expected that your mini makes more noise than your sisters.

I guess it is big with the clubs right now.
Apparently it had appeared on apples QT page for a brief moment in time.

My friend bought this last month. I was weary of the controls at first, but after I started playing it I didn't give a rat's arse.
We finally finished all 6 games last Saturday. It cost on average $10 in credits for each game. So for $39 the game is a deal. :)
I loved the part where my character got turned into an uzi wielding orangutan. :D

Thats a pretty drastic reaction for a misspelt word. The amount of wounds that he inflicted as well to that spelling mistake.

Why should Ferrari put good tires on their cars?
Just think about it; here's a company championing (used to, anyway) their music player and how great the experience was, but then at the same time made sure that the final product (the music that enters your head) sounds like total ass because of 10 cent headphones they include with their premium product.
Same thing applies to Ferrari--why build an awesome car that's made for great performance, and then put 10 cent tires on it, resulting in a poor final product in terms of end-user experience?
A premium music player is useless without good headphones, just as a premium car is useless without good tires.
Putting crappy headphones in the box of a premium priced/marketed product is an oxymoron, and a bit of an insult to the consumer. And spare the "Oh but that would cost too much for the consumer", because that wouldn't exactly flow with everyone praising a $6B profit quarter.
What would be the alternative? Put some Dr. Dre head phones in the box and have the iPod cost $80 more? To what end?
Very few people care about the quality of the headphones that come with iPods. For those that do, they can buy nice set of headphones and not worry about the 10 cent ones that Apple puts in the box.
If Apple put in a half decent set of headphones and increased the price by, say $20, the folks that want even better headphones would complain that they have to pay an extra $20 for headphones they'll never use.

Probably a poor choice of words from my side.
I mean that the last 5 lines of the page were transferred to an extra page.
i cant be 100% sure that my method will work, but just give it a shot.
Now a common problem i find with word that sometimes annoys me is the "space before/after paragraph" i am not 100% sure that word has it on the mac .. but what might be the problem is that both [B]before/B] and [B]after [or for that case one] may be checked and thus producing a greater amount of lines.
this could also have something to do with the translation of the files from pages to docx...
two solutions you may try would be:
1. make sure that there are no spaces "before or after" the paragraph
http://uksbsguy.com/images/c85a232101fd_1312B/image_thumb1.png
http://www.espacomac.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/word-office-2011.png
now i haven't opened up word 2011 for about a week of so so my memory isn't as accurate [and i dont have my mac with me now..] but if you see on the above image where the "5" is on the ruler. right above that is two opposite lines with a space in between. click that and you might see the first image.. if not re post and i will post something as soon as i get my mac [ in a couple of hours +/-?]
2. try emailing yourself the text and then copy and pasting it into a word document straight from the email.. this might work and get rid of the spacing issues? [but remember to make sure it's single spaced.. and then double space it on the word document?]
i hope it works out!!

Connected a mac keyboard (full size white) after spilling milk over previous keyboard and killing it and now can't use:
1. Control+Shift to zoom in.
2. Control+Option to zoom out.
3. Alt to move the page around.

Hey, can anyone give any recommendations on a Bluetooth mouse? Can I use a Bluetooth mouse for both a Mac and PC? What is the distance you can use a mouse? Anybody know of any future products coming out that use Bluetooth?
Congratulations, you have the (dis)honor of posting the 768th thread on a BT mouse recommendation.
Search the forums

help!
I just got done upgrading my G4 B&W to Tiger (fresh install) and I decided to get this comptuer back folding again. I ran the little single processor install script that is linked in the folding FAQ to get it installed and running.
Now for some reason, every time I open Terminal, it calls the Install script. I deleted the install script, but it still tries to open it every time I open a new terminal window, and I get the following.
Last login: Thu Jun 23 09:57:48 on ttyp1
Welcome to Darwin!
Yosemite:~ USERr$ /Volumes/single/.setup/script.command; exit
-bash: /Volumes/single/.setup/script.command: No such file or directory
logout
[Process completed]
Here is what I attempted to do to resolve my issue, which none have fixed
1. Install and run the script again.
2. Change the default shell from the terminal prefrences.
Does anyone know what file I need to edit to get a normal shell, and to have the system stop trying to call the install script?
Thanks for any help!
I thought my Linux experience would help here, but I am lost!
One of the files that get executed every time you open the terminal is ~/.profile (where '~' is your home directory). You can't see this file normally because it begins with '.', so to see it you have to use "ls -a" instead of just "ls". Open it, and if it has a line that executes the program you don't want, just erase it.

Apple really has a problem on their hands. The old displays are good, but the technology has been leapfrogged since.
Expectations are so high, OLED or LED backlight don't seem feasible at the sizes required 24", 27", 30" ?
The old/current matte displays look so lifeless, compared to new glossy displays. My new iMac has serious colour gradient problems, but I wouldn't trade it for a Cinema Display.
And that was indeed the choice I made...
I was prepared to go the more expensive route... 23" ACD & MacMini, if the ACD could be used as a monitor for a blu-ray player. But next to the glossy displays, no contest.
And nobody's going to pay the prices asked, for such old tech. no matter how good the quality... seemingly so close to an update, no matter how far away it is.

i was just on the apple site looking at a mac pro, and when i clicked on the apple page, for a split second i saw this blue ichat icon above the customer service number that said chat now!!! it only flashed for a second, and when i hit the back button, it was gone.
this may be the new customer service system.
here is a mock-up of what i saw, again i only saw it for a second so i am not too sure about the lateral placement. i know there was a iTunes 7 blue colored, vector looking ichat symbol and it said chat now. I saw the icon first, and ended my glance at with my eyes moving down towards the service number, so i didn't get all the visual hierarchy digested, but it looked like an ichat tech support service, maybe the will add this to the $50k apple care for servers gets you? fro

Going right after school with my $100 store credit from the iPhone and $30 cash. Should get there around 2:30, maybe a little later, to the Montgomery Mall MD store. Hopefully the line won't be too long, I really want the t-shirt since I haven't got any Apple shirts right now and I have to be outta there by 6:30 for a pretty important dinner party (I'd miss it, but you know... :S) Interesting though that there isn't a meetup thing for the Montgomery Mall store.
PLEASE GOD DON'T GET THERE BEFORE ME NOW!!! lol :P
