Its the crapy drivers Apple has crippled an almost perfect laptop for a switcher or multi OS user. There are alternatives right now but they are complex hacks and best avoided in my opinion. I guess we will have to wait for the next rev. There is a new Bootcamp update.. but it does not mention a new Trackpad driver in the release notes.

Sweet tomorrow 4-6!
Ive noticed youve been down for the last week :( Man that sucks :( that has to be hard. A lot of areas around me were also affected. My sister on the other side of town lost power for nearly 2 days when a big oak tree fell down on some power lines. Came close to their house. Just hope everyone is safe.
yeah it has not been fun. i had to take my family to my parents' place for the last 5-6 days. luckily none of my family was hurt, and we didn't have any damage.

Thanks! You think the hard drive itself is quiet too?
Edit: Just realized I upgraded my Tivo S3 with a 1TB western digital green and it is very quiet. I'll probably end up getting either a 1TB or 2TB drive for the recommended enclosure. Thanks!
No problem :-). Yeah the drive is very quiet. The only time that I even notice it is when it first powers up. If the room is silent you hear the sound of a small motor spinning up. For a TV room though - it'd be perfect.

Resolution independence has no downsides.
Except for the downsides we're discussing. Macs being on the cutting edge of technology won't instantly transform the billions of web pages into scaleable, 'new web' sites. These sites are not going to instantly decide to redesign their pages at a higher dpi just because this new technology is out. It's not like they all redesign when bigger monitors come out. These transitions take many years.

Has anybody heard about the possible early opening of Apple stores tomorrow? Rumor is that they will open at 9:00am. The store at The Gateway wont confirm this though...

I have the Panasonic TM900 with 5.1 sound. DH is right of course, any wind or sounds further away are just that.
In terms of editing, I used Clipwrap to unrwap them into prores and there's 4 audio tracks in FCP. I haven't even installed the Panasonic included software nor have I had time to really sort it out. I will be soon though b/c my card is start to fill up so the need is there :)
In terms of optics, it's a great camcorder. Great footage thus far.

There's nothing going on today.
Damn.
It's a Sunday...folks don't work on Sundays if they can avoid it. :D
I'm at work. :(
Well, I look forward to Tuesday then!

How did you do that?
How did you change your dock into that?
Also, how did you get the analogue clock?

Do you think there will be different jailbreaks for the AT&T and Verizon models being that they're different chipsets?

The Corrupt Font message could be because there's ...er... a corrupt font?
Given that the font name appears to be a double-byte format, chances are that it is one of the OSX Asian fonts. Assuming this is an English operating system and you don't need extended language support>
Walk her through this on the 'phone. You can go into the Library:Fonts and the System:Library:Fonts and safely remove any font with a name that is in non-Roman type, and those with names like Geeza, Li, Hai and similar. Toss 'em into another folder or outright trash them. Then restart and try again.
Cocktail might not be the right tool to put in the hands of a 2 month new Mac user. A support problem is, you don't have any idea what she did to the machine with Cocktail.
Also stress to Sis that she should not move or rename any unfamiliar sounding folders or files - she could do damage to the OS.
If she continues to have problems, Archive and Install with OSX would not be bad, followed by reinstall of Office and the Apple and Microsoft updates.
Thanks
Trevor

You can't start a thread like this and not give us your first impressions! :D
I'm looking forward to Reach, although I'm also keeping myself grounded over the hype. I've generally enjoyed Halo but have been dissapointed in one way or another by everything since the Xbox original. I'm hoping the single player is better than Halo 3's at least.

Hello everyone.
Has anyone find it necessary to close and re-open Chrome, iTunes, and Finder on Mac OSX (SL) from time to time? This applies only if you never turn off your Mac.
Every once in a while I find it necessary to restart Chrome to reduce memory usage, especially if I have a lot of open tabs with Flash video. If left unchecked, some tabs will start crashing.
Same thing with iTunes, when memory usage goes haywire, the app store iPhone/iPad screen shots will not load.
Finally, I need to relaunch Finder when folder icons starts disappearing. This would be akin to re-springing in iOS which also help releasing memory.
I hate to have to resort to installing more system memory just for the memory leaks. I wonder if other users have similar experience. Hopefully OSX Lion Finder will be improved.

I am happy I got ubuntu Linux running under Parallels. It almost emulates the Lab version except for FPC not working correctly for compiling. But terminal works great using GPC. I should be starting on this tonight, with my Top Down Design.

That's for the advice! I may try Crucial or OWC which looks like they guarantee Apple compatibility. I guess the Corsair's should work fine in a standard laptop.
I'de call Corsair first and see what they think. Perhaps it is bad RAM and they will replace it. If you decide to get OWC or Crucial and are not in a hurry, wait a little while and monitor the price as they go on sale. You can get some memory, like G Skill, for around $60, which most members here seem to love.

Glad I saw the software updates, ordered a 30G black refurb, but it's a 5G, so, I can get the higher res videos and play games. that works for me. Couldnt beat it for $199 + tax.

My colleague has one and I have to say that I am impressed by the Zune. It's as good, if not better than any portable media player on the market and I loved the brown shell. The problem is that Microsoft doesn't know how to play from behind the competition, especially with a device that only serves one purpose and can't really be improved enough to catch people's attention. It was a silly decision to jump in the market so late in the game. Apple's market share in this sector was insurmountable.

Hello..
Just got MBA.. the Cheapo 11" model.. and I wanna run Bootcamp once in a while to do things (games, office, etc.)
I've read the forums and it looks like running bootcamp on an external drive is out of the question.. but can I install OSX on an external drive, and then install a virtualization software like Parallels and then install Windows and run it off that?
I'm wondering if I'll have significant performance issues.. I won't be running any extensive games.. just some casual stuff from time to time and a Microsoft Office PC version for the times things just don't seem to be compatible with Mac Office...
Best,
J

Can it play .ogg files? Probably not. Still don't want it, then. And I hate that you have to use iTunes to sync an iPod. I prefer filesystem based solutions like on the iAudio.

Excel truly is the standard in this case (actually doing a good job), and it will be very hard to convince users to switch.
Go look at Pages; Word's been the "standard" for years and Pages can write Word documents. I'm sure if Lasso, Numbers, Charts, etc. will also be able to save in Excel documents. I believe AppleWorks can, and if this is a step up, and since the world has moved a little more, there should be no problem with Excel and Apple's new application.
I'm sure "Lasso" will be great, after all, Apple's calculator works flawlessly. ;)
What was the problem with it again? I wasn't using a mac then.

6 Pack???!!! That's CHEAP!
I charge at least a case of 12 or a nice bottle of Rum.
haha most of my friends are either students and/or in bands. So a 6-pack is about all they can afford. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice sick pack I charge (no poverty $1 for me!)
