I'm about to purchase the new '11 iMac in the next couple days and had a question about Time Machine. I have all my backups from my '09 iMac on my external harddrive. Will Time Machine move programs like iWorks? I don't want to have to buy the program all over again on the new computer if Time Machine can transfer it. Same for Adobe Photoshop CS5..does Time Machine allow these programs to be transferred? Thanks for any and all help!

If it opens in Parallels, then install the free and open-source PDFCreator tool over there, and capture what you want by printing to the virtual printer the PDFCreator tool installs. You can then do whatever you wish with the PDF files thus generated.
And that will keep the interactive navigation? Like larkost said, PDF just isn't suitable for what Wiggum wants to do...
Why do you need to change the HTML, Wiggum?

I don't really think that Bill Gate's money is that big of a deal. If you consider the amount of influence he has had in terms of creating jobs and opportunities for other people you'd probably be happy to pay him the $40bn. Microsoft itself hires more than 100,000 people - never mind every other company that partners with or relies on Microsoft in some way. That in turn generates huge amounts of tax and prosperity. On top of that, it also happens that Bill Gates is very charitable. I suspect that a lot of wealthy people are.
This is why I would support the idea that the wealthy should be rewarded. If my CEO hadn't been allowed to become successful, I wouldn't have a job. The same applies for most people here.

How many people file when they sell something on ebay. Do they go by the amount you sell or every transaction? I am sure ebay could set up a system to track sales.
You're supposed to pay tax on your profits (not sales totals) from selling on ebay or other venues.
eBay transactions rarely involve cash, right? Just see to it that the banks (card manager/paypal/whatever), which have accountants anyway, handle the tax part.
So paypal or the banks would need to be your personal tax accountant and keep track of your purchases, expenses, etc.? What if some of your income is paid in cash? Should the person paying you be your personal tax accountant too?

I haven't ventured into the HD world yet so I'm not up to speed on the screen res needed for HD. I do however seem to recall posts lamenting for higher res screens for HD playback. If that is the case, then resolution independence would be a must. Otherwise the UI would become so small it would become unusable. Am I way off base here?
For full HD playback you need at least 1080 pixels vertically and 1920 pixels horizontally. So the current res for most screens is 1920x1200.
Resolution Independence would allow for say, a MacBook, with a 1920x1200 13.3" screen to display the User Interface at the same size as it appears on today's 1280x800 screen but everything would be markedly clearer.
Also, it would allow for native HD video playback and show every pixel of a 2.3MP photo.
It's a Very Good Thing

Isn't the Otterbox guarantee only for one year? Perhaps one year warranty is good enough.
So....does the silicone case stretch out where it requires a replacement?
Yes but it also depends on how vigorously you use it.

I have one of these too, and I was going to sell it as of this week, but recently (like Saturday) I started using it again and I LOVE it. It makes iTMS videos look awesome when played full screen in iTunes. Just make sure to change the resolution to 1024x768 NTSC in system prefs to get the full effect.

Hi,
I looked into the ECC vs Non-ECC issue a little more. You can use Non-ECC ram in your MacPro but you can't mix and match ECC and Non-ECC sticks. So, if you were to buy Non-ECC ram you would have to get rid of the ECC ram that's already in your machine. This combined with the fact that error checking ram is preferable to non error checking ram, I would say just spend the extra money and get proper ECC ram. Also, it really isn't that much more expensive.

Also, can I pop in my NVIDIA 8800GT card, that I'm removing from my dead 1st gen. Mac Pro, and expect it to work and play nicely with the installed stock ATI.
Any reason to keep it? It'll just use up power while generating heat and noise.

the cash in your pocket really isnt yours but your assets are. however most of the "money" that exists in the world, doesnt actually exists. they are just 1s and 0s in a database.
