Had a stock 2009 15" MacBook Pro and running Photoshop CS5 became a chore and often plugins would crash it.
Just got the new 27" iMac, stock $1699 model. Runs Photoshop SO much faster. Made a little video: iMac output to my 46" Vizio tv via Thunderbolt MiniDisplayPort-HDMI adapter. While running Photoshop CS5, ran Topaz Adjust and Alien Skin Exposure...plugins and movie trailer ran smooth, no hiccups, def couldn't do this with my 2009 15" Macbook Pro ;)

I would have been 18 then. Was sleeping when it happened. I was called out of bed, and the TV was full blast. I think I started watching after the second plane hit. I was scheduled to work from 1:00 that day at my retail job (big-box office supply), but wasn't sure if I was even supposed to go in that day. I called in, was told that it was still on, so I headed to work. I remember walking to work and just looking up at the sky, expecting to see something as I lived by a busy international airport. Not a thing was in the sky.
When I got to work, you could just see the tension on everyone's faces. No need to ask if they had heard "the news". Our boss let us keep the TV on in the computer department that was normally used to repeat a video about a printer/scanner/fax machine.
We had almost no customers that day, and the ones that came in... it was hard to describe. It was almost like people knew that we were all together at a time like this - there was this unspoken bond between us all. I don't think we had a single rude customer that day. It was really just solemn.
I don't think I'll ever see a day quite like that ever again.

sorry, but I dont see the big need for this. I am on Straight Talk $45 unlimited minutes, data, and texting.

Good for you. There are those of us with passports who travel internationally. There is no way in hell I'm paying AT&T's ridiculous international roaming rates.

why do you want to use asp.net and take the extra cost in sql server and windows 2003...
The main reason is that I already have a lot of .NET code that could be useful for web development. I'm not using windows or sql server though. I'm trying out Mono's ASP .NET and I've already ported some of my code to Mono and to MySql. But in spite of this, I don't have much experience with web apps so I would feel much better if I could take a look at what other people have already done. I have decent-enough skills to build the shopping cart, but I've no clue about security issues, so that I would like to learn.

I believe option that is left now is to wait for Jailbreak and then actually dig inside the ipa and try to see if its possible to spoof their check
I'm trying to see if it will work with the iPhone connected with VPN and iPad tethered using personal hotspot. The only problem is I can't change the IP range On the iPhone to match my home network. I'd have to change my home network to match the IP range given out on the iPhone. Then test it.

just for the record, this link has been submitted around 10 times now, but I've been on the whole unimpressed by the desktops so far. Maybe by offering the link and getting some new blood in there, it will liven up.
Or you go visit my website @ http://homepage.mac.com/nuber

Sorry to be so cruel on your first post.
Comic Sans?
IPod?
Yea. It was actually deliberate, even the 'IPod" - i wanted to toon it up a little but, give it a few extra tweaks, to keep it from being too close to the real thing, and just to add my own goofy touch.:)

that idea however, has nothing to do with bluetooth enabling the hard drive. and I still wonder if using radio transmission might be a better alternative for such things (I have no idea). Maybe the remote would be coolas a bluetooth device.

I know it is an old way of doing it but it works effectively for me
I go to www.amazon.com and select music, then search by song or artist and it will pop up the artwork, simply save it to your iTunes Artwork and add it to your music.
The one thing I absolutely can not stand is music in my itunes with no artwork, it drives me insane.

I have a iMac and use mobile me for my email. I am wondering if archiving my email will speed things up in the mail section or the mac overall. I have a ton of email that I keep in folders that are years old. I keep them for serial numbers for software I bought and so on. Then there are attachments to some emails such as family emails. I have about 10 GB in my mail folder under my library section under my user name. Should I consider archiving my email and how does that affect the email searching , say if I wanted to look up a email for a serial number? What are the steps on how to do it? Is there a article or can someone tell me how to do it?

I don't think he is fake. He has a facebook page and twitter. He is saying he is releasing it tomorrow. Guess we will see tomorrow.
Yeah I agree his jailbreak is real. Possible stability issue though. I hope he releases it when it is really good so I don't have to listen to whiners...

it would surely cost a lot.
this is always the case, when new products appear in the market.
i'd say 2000 $$$.
i am hoping though, that other companies would use this technology too, and not be dependent on Philips to use this technology.
i was never satisfied with philips equipment. maybe it is just me.
and if we need to resort to philips equipment, then i would want to have a choice of machines. philips needs to present 2 to 4 hifis within a month and not just one.
if we will see them in mwsf? good question. i predict, no. it is just too early.
and again, we are talking about apple here. we know how steve loves surprises, although he hasn't surprised us that often in the last few macworlds.

AirDrop appeared in Finder with the original Dev Preview. When I upgraded to Developer Preview 2, AirDrop was gone. I figured it was some sort of bug, and when I did the Dev Preview 2 Update that was released today, I figured it would return - but I was wrong!
Any idea on how to bring AirDrop back into the Favorites area of the Finder sidebar?? It's not even an option in the Finder Preferences Sidebar section!

We will continue to innovate on all fronts throughout the remainder of the year.
that is a great statement from Jobs, can't wait to see what turns out besides osx lion & ios 5.
hardware wise, imac & macbook need upgrades. and since mbp was released in feb, perhaps a new one will be out by christmas , being 10 months ( max time ever between cycles) if not i bet the all new design, blade ssd, new enclosure and Ivy Bridge will debut in jan. whatever happens, apple has a lot in store

I've ordered it and will see if it suits my need. You're right, with all of my searching, and I've been searching, for some reason, I did not search enough!
After I try it, I'll report further.

No worries, I was just busting balls...slow day at work.
I have a couple friends with this (want one bad, but I'm too cheap) and it's THE best in-car cradle I've ever used. You won't be disappointed. Note: you have to use the charger plug washer supplied to be sturdy, plug a 3.5mm cable from your stereo to the base of the cradle and the cable from the mount to your iphone's 3.5mm jack for aux to work. Also, wrap the cable that goes from the mount to the iphone to the back of the mount to reduce excess cable hanging. You'll know what I mean when you're setting up the unit.
I'm actually surprised this unit isn't recommanded more often on this forum.
Edit - the FM version/function is complete garbage. Don't bother with it.

The whole resolution independance thing terrifies me. I just know we'll see some vendor or Apple have these annoying huge UI's that we can't shrink back down to their proper size. I mean the reason we buy this huge monitors is to shrink the UI and maximize free space right???
You're confusing size in inches with size in pixels. The problem you're worried about won't happen.

I had this same problem. It seems it was due to virtual 'parellels' adapters that are automatically activated. I created separate 'network locations' (in network preferences) for home where airport took preference over ethernet and the the two parallels adapters were deleted. It solved the problem. Good luck!
I am experiencing the same problem with my macbook pro. How do I delete the two parallel adapters?

Do you have the camera connection kit or do you plan to get it? The connection kit only really fully works with the non 4.0 versions...
Nope, don't use it and don't really see a need for it. I think I'm just gonna go up to 4.3. There's nothing I desperately need with the jb, I just love being able to quickly kill all my apps and some of my themes... but that stuff will come in due time.
Thanks for all the help! :)

The reason MacBU has had to abandon VBA is that the Mac compiler won't work on Intel Macs. And Microsoft has already announced that VBA is being deprecated on Windows (it will go on working for a few years, then will end). So there's no point devoting enormous efforts to making a new compiler only for it all to go away shortly afterwards. There is some reason to believe that eventually VB.NET will work on the Mac as it does on Windows, as a cross-platform solution. Until then, VBA macros need to be translated to AppleScript. There can be no better signal that MacBU is committeed to the Mac than to see the huge investment they have made in AppleScript. Office's AppleScript is already working as of Office and it mirrors the VBA model identically: macros can be translated to AppleScript _now_, and will then "just work" in the next version of Office too.
I was actually wondering about just this, if MS is going to a new open standard for documents, and apple also does in their own products, wont word be just another nice frontend that performs the same functions as most other apps. Most people, me included, use Office for mac for compatibility, if thats out of the way I wont use office anymore. Will the new open format (ODF I believe) use its own scripting language, or what?

Im doing the same thing, only im building one....
Asus N798X mobo (the good one)- 120$
AMD 2700+ Retail- 280$
Radeon 9700 Pro- 320$
512MB DDR 400 RAM- 85$
80GB Maxtor HD- 90$
Sweet aluminum/black case with front usb n stuff and 500w power supply- 105$
Microsoft KB/Mouse- 30$
Windows XP (im not buying it)
I think it should turn out friggin great. I have an 18.1 inch LCD at home, so I am set.
Its going to cost about 900 dollars, and I think I can get a lot of the parts for cheaper other places (well, mainly the chip).
And this machine will get 160FPS in Unreal I already checked benches. Its a sweet machine...
