I'm guessing that extra millimeter is what was needed to give the right amount of opaqueness to the white face.

I would argue that accepting a lifestyle that has a much higher likelihood of illness or death doesn't necessarily mean mental illness. What about adventure seekers? Is climbing Everest a sign of mental illness? The likelihood of dying is high, and honestly, some would say that you have to be crazy to do it, but people still praise the behavior, and don't label the person with a mental illness.

Guys, it really is possible that she just LOVES food. I've met people like that. They are great chefs and are very over weight because they love food. Not because they have some kind of mental deficiency.

Humans function on a reward system. You may climb Everest because of the personal accomplishment or the rush. Eating to the degree of excess that lady has is far more than a love of food. There is no potential gain and she knows she is hurting herself, but does not care. She is pursuing a goal that conflicts with 'logical reasoning'. If you look at people who are class III obese, you will see a few things. First, depression and suicide rates are ridiculously high. Two, almost all want to lose weight. Three, there are often underlying conditions.

Obesity needs to be treated as a mental illness as well as physical illness/condition. Much of losing weight and keeping it off is psychological. The self-rated quality of life of obese children are literally worse than terminal cancer patients. Not everyone who is obese has a mental illness, but when people get to extreme obesity, there is almost always an existing condition or one has developed from a negative self-image.

The addition of gestures is certainly not the result of this update. I installed the update on an iPad and gestures weren't included. After configuring the iPad for development within Xcode, the gestures option appeared. It's still for developmental purposes only.

Metal backing and reception don't go well together. The iPod touch is cleary no "role model" for the next iPhone. In this rumor may be some truth  but the mockup does not show the Apple style at all

It's a platform war, but not in the way that a lot of people think it is. Developers are making a lot more money on iOS because it has a lot more users and those users tend to buy things. Therefore, those users are going to get the developers' attention first.

It's better than that. Not only does the iOS platform include the iPod Touch and the iPad, which about doubles the platform installed base of users, but iPad and iPhone users each buy more paid apps on average. Android customers seem like cheapskates by comparison, and far less profitable to target by most developers. With that kind of tilted revenue incentive for mobile app developers moving to iOS, how is the Android platform going to keep up?

I wish they offered the 120GB HDD i dont need 160, but 100 is too little, 120 is just right + would save me nearly 60

I already have 2 160GB FW400 Drives so I'm more interested in speed than internal capacity.
However you might down the road decide you want the 160GB (needs change) and wished the opposite!

Zune already features none-touch technology? Huh? Zune doesn't even exist yet (at least from a consumer point of view), so how can you say it already has anything?

Comparing two products that haven't been released (nor even had their specs officially released) seems quite pointless...

No - Mazola meant that Zune had none-touch - because he wouldn't touch it!

    Geddit?!

I can see they learned from the Gizmodo incident and now it has the "If found, please contact ..." text on it. There's no way someone can say "I found it, it's mine, I didn't know it was Apple's" :D

Some people are lying themselves. Of course every high-end laptop will be like the MBA in few-several years. That is the point, getting slimmer, portable and more and more powerful. That's the ideal laptop.

So a MBA with better GPU/CPU is always welcomed.

As it is looking, looks like the show might be done period. Which just sucks. One of my favorite shows too! :mad:They show will be on as long as the ratings are up. Maybe Sheen gets killed off when he crashes his car next season and then their long lost brother enters.

By definition, having alternatives makes Apple NOT a monopoly.

It is not even necessary that there _are_ alternatives. It is enough if others _could_ enter the market if they wanted. In that situation, you cannot increase prices as you like, because at that point others _would_ enter the market.

with Apple it is in AAC that can be converted to MP3, whereas Amazon sells just the MP3.

Are you saying mp3 cannot be converted to aac? It certainly (and easily) can be done. You can even use iTunes to do it. It isn't the greatest idea as you aren't going to gain any quality and will almost certainly lose quality, but the exact same thing would happen converting aac to mp3.

We are learning some awfully interesting things about you today, lol.

Whatever floats your boat though lol:D

Things I was trying to encourage him to keep awfully to himself back on page 2... Seriously, we need to stop enabling fat people. I say that as an ex-fat person with a high risk of gaining back my weight.

A huge problem (no pun intended) in America is the gigantic portions masquerading as meals in fast-food and casual restaurants. Some of the dishes available at very popular chains are absolutely ridiculous in size. Yet we buy them because they are a "good value." And let's face it - more often than not, we make a pretty good run at finishing off our plates, don't we? Unfortunately, that's just continuing the validation of the portion sizes...

I was in Reston Virginia for training a year ago. One thing I like about the US, is that all restaurants have their nutritional information posted somewhere. Here you have to almost kill someone to get it.

Anyway, me and the guy I'm with walk into Champps (http://www.champps.com/) at diner time one evening. Here's the nutritional info : http://www.champps.com/Portals/3/Website%20Nutritionals%200710-1.pdf. I had looked it up earlier since I was in full blown weight loss mode and had made my pick (another very important weight control technique, choose what you'll eat ahead of time when going out). I ordered the Salmon BBQ chopped salad (1155 calories) (which was delicious) and ate half of it. Half the salmon, half the actual salad, half the sauce, approximately of course. That was still close to 550 calories.

My co-worker laughs it up, says he'll just get an appetizer instead of a dumb salad and it'll taste better and be less fattening. He ordered the Miles High Nacho, with Chili of course. Luckily, he never managed to eat more than a quarter of it. Yep, a close to a quarter of a 3300 calories. That plate has almost 1 lbs gain for a person!

It's not 5 patents, it's actually 10 patents. Reuters has some details :

    http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/04/22/us-samsung-apple-idUSTRE73L0DG20110422?WT.tsrc=Social%20Media&WT.z_smid=twtr-reuters_%20com&WT.z_smid_dest=Twitter

Samsung said the suits, filed in South Korea, Japan and Germany, involved 10 alleged infringements of patents mainly involving power reduction during data transmission, 3G technology for reducing errors during data transmission, and wireless data communication technology.

Again, Apple sues over looks, gets counter-sued over base functionality they can't do without.

In the end, consumers, be them Apple customers or Samsung customers will lose and the lawyers will win. It's surprising anyone here sees any positive in this.

You'd have to be a fool to order that from Apple. Their upgrade prices on SSD's are a joke! It'd probably be cheaper to wait it out a couple of months and get an external thunderbolt one - it'll be just as fast if not faster!

The prices are way too high but upgrading yourself is a task most people don't want to attempt (removing the glass is a bit daunting). External thunderbolt would be nice but I don't think there's any enclosures for sale yet.

The mere fact that some kernel vulnerabilities were discovered in an event SPECIFICALLY devoted to finding such things does not mean our OS X is unsafe. It is by far the MOST secure system out there, with 40 million or 400 million users, and nobody has been able to prove the opposite so far.

The guy heading up the MOKB thing said that MacOSX's kernel (XNU) was the easiest kernel to crack. If that makes you feel safe, then go ahead and feel safe, but for me, even though I use extremely good security practices and networking measures, I still would rather have Apple get serious aboud security and start hardening their system more so that guys who are only fuzzing and stress testing can't come up with 10 vulnerabilities in a month.

The only thing I can suggest (which I doubt anyone will follow) is to avoid the hysteria. When a real threat emerges, you'll most likely hear about it long before you are actually in any danger from it.

Funny thing is that I don't see anyone in this forum going into hysteria about this other than the people saying that "this is a load of FUD." Why is it such a shock that MacOSX can be vulnerable? No, it hasn't been exploited to any large extent, but vulnerabilities open up the door to exploits, and the only thing that is keeping us away from having exploits happen is our market share. You may not want to hear that, but as long as we are below 10% of the market, people simply aren't going to target our vulnerabilities, but are going to target MS's vulnerabilities.

The problem of course, is that our Market Share is going up, and so we will likely be a larger target for hackers. So if these vulnerabilities keep popping up in this frequency, that becomes a major issue for the exploitation problem as time goes on.

For that matter, I get the feeling that the person taking the video isn't an employee, just a hunch.

It was an employee. You don't need to have 'just a hunch' when most of the media reports confirm this. The employee was fired.

I can understand not reading the whole thread, but not reading anything and preferring to make up your own version of events is kind of lazy.
