So the wifi units sold out first? How many total units? 100 or so?
There were probably 70 or 80 people there. Some bought one, some bought two iPads. I think there were enough for everybody who was there this morning. They handed out tickets and opened the store at 0900 and I was out and happy by 1000.

Thanks, Dante. Your patient elucidation is much appreciated. I use my desktop for music production, and my laptop for everything else, including photoshop stuff for CD covers, etc.; the next step is consolidation into a single machine (now that I've sold off a ton of synth hardware and am more in-the-box). The color accuracy is obviously not the be-all and end-all for my applications, but I wouldn't want to save a couple of bucks and end up with something I couldn't use in everything I do.
I saw the HP in person today for the first time, and it does look great. As for the form factor element of the equation, I like the fact that it can be lowered on its stand to where the screen is almost sitting on the tabletop, and the screen can be turned L-R without moving the stand. I have a nice couch off to the side of my rig, where I'd like to be able to turn a 30" monitor for an occasional evening's DVD-viewing with friends, and hadn't yet figured out how this would "go" with an ACD (this studio arrangement is new; previously my couch was behind the main seating position at the rig).
Most of the above is doubtless more than you need or care to know, but let me finish my blathering by thanking you again. Best,
vic

Great Question! Mostly for posterity sake at first - phase 2 will most likely be filming (transfering?) a bunch of Super 8 movies and doing the same - need to research more on that still...
I'd say 30hrs of 8mm, god knows how many Super 8...
Somewhere before getting on with phase 2, I plan on editing and throwing together some things like our annual visits up north vacationing throughout the last 10 years or so..
The "what's next" question is perfect for if I should choose certain formats etc for whatever I do next!

As part of its slew of software updates yesterday, Apple released updated versions of its MobileMe Control Panel for Windows and iPhone Configuration Utility, as well as a new VoiceOver kit for the latest iPod shuffle and iPod nano models.
- MobileMe Control Panel for Windows (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL769) updates the application to version 1.5.1 and is a required update for existing users to ensure compatibility with iTunes 9.1 (http://www.macrumors.com/2010/03/30/apple-releases-itunes-9-1-to-support-ipad/).MobileMe Control Panel is required to manage iDisk settings and to sync contacts, calendars, and bookmarks on a Windows PC.
This update is required for Windows computers running iTunes 9.1.The update weighs in at 2.39 MB.
- Apple's iPhone Configuration Utility is used in enterprise settings to allow system administrators to manage configuration profiles and applications, as well as for collecting information from device logs. The new iPhone Configuration Utility 2.2 is available for Mac OS X 10.6 (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL851) (6.94 MB) and Windows (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL926) (29.51 MB).
- Finally, Apple released version 1.3 of VoiceOver Kit for iPod (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4046), supporting the third-generation iPod shuffle and fifth-generation iPod nano. The update permits automatic downloading of updated pronunciations from iTunes 9.1. The update is not available for the iPhone 3GS and "Late 2009" iPod touch models, as those devices already carry the necessary VoiceOver support.

i have ipad2 with 4.3 after i saved the shsh using tinyumbrella it shows 4.3.1 in the list of saved shsh, but it does show 4.3 in the installed fw. is that normal?
Yes, perfectly normal. It saves SHSH for the most recent firmware, regardless of which firmware is installed on your device.

(1) In regards to Excel, the program has become the industry standard kind of by default more than anything. If you look back through it's "history", Excel really hasn't changed much since the beginning. Sure, the interface is better, and the introduced more comprehensive Macros and other crap that just makes it confusing for most users, but the structure and base features are exactly the same. Frankly, the only features that are worrysome when sending Excel documents via email are the Macros, and those don't even work properly from computer to computer, let alone across different programs (ie. Excel to "Lasso"). So, long story short, I'm very excited to see what Apple comes up with and really don't think interoperability will be an issue at all.
(2) In regards to Pages, and the complaints I've seen on here about it, let's not forget that in the world of software, iWork is a BABY. MS Office has been around forever, whereas Pages is only a few years old. And frankly, it already works light years better than Word could ever dream to. If you've ever attempting to do anything in Word other than type, you know it is so chock full of bugs and quirks that by the end of your project you'd rather write it out free hand.
So bring on Lasso, and Pages '07. I can not WAIT to delete office from my Mac and be done with everything that has that dirty M-word on it forever.
That is all.

You will need to get two active MDP to DVI adapters (Amazon has them for about $35 each), passive adapters will only work with up to 2 monitors. The Apple dual-link/active adapters will work but they are expensive, and if you don't need the dual link, they are overkill as well. The real issue is the resolution of the monitors, and you may need the dual-link/active expensive adapters depending on the monitor you connect. I don't know much about that, so maybe someone who knows for sure could chime in...
That's assuming the Samsung monitors only have DVI inputs and no DisplayPort .. ports... Then yes, you would need some active adapters.
But yes, the 3 monitors can plug in and "screen span" as you call it. It's just simply set from the Display sections of the System Preferences.
As for the Nvidia 8800GT... I dunno. Don't have one. But, probably? If the 8800GT only needs 1 power connector - the 5770 will take 1 power connector leaving one spare.
