It would be interesting to compare Fibre Channel with Thunderbolt. Apart from TB integrating video, TB looks a lot like an evolution of Fibre Channel.

Hum, you have no idea what Fiber channel is if you seriously claim that. Fiber channel is a networking protocol for storage essentially, Thunderbolt is a host based technology. Call me when Thunderbolt can be switched, redundant, do LUN provisioning and can be extended over a MAN to offer multi-site storage.

If true, it could be absolutely huge. Truly landmark. Imagine if Apple could somehow do the the TV industry what they did to nearly every other industry (segment) they're in?

The possibilities are pretty astounding. This is the Apple of folks. They have the money, drive, talent and momentum to get into any market and shake things up with a very good chance of success, and make the established players look totally flat-footed in the process.

Does this picture depict the combination of old and new, restored and ruins or is it just a touristy picture with too much in it? You be my judges.

Probably not to far off. what will be funny is all the people who bought a 2011 mbp, I am guessing probably will not choose to pay premium for the drive and will upgrade their laptop prior to buying affordable TB drive for thier machine.

I hope I am wrong, But I think 500 might not be to far off from actual price.

    500? That IS expensive!

Wait, I thought the show was cancelled, then it wasn't, then it is, so what is actually going on?

The show hasn't been officially cancelled. Before today, they shut down production for the last 8 episodes for this season. Today, they fired Sheen and said they are unsure if the show will go on. Knowing Hollywood, they'll go on with a replacement. Oddly, Sheen replaced Michael J. Fox on his show when Fox quit and it went on for another 2 or 3 seasons.

    Well... is "faster" a feature?

It was when iOS 4.3 was released, it wasn't labeled as a bug fix to make Safari faster, it was a bullet point.

    Finally, a quad core desktop class machine (in processors only I suppose) with ample I/O and a decent . . . . for Apple . . . . price.

Shocked that Apple would give us TWO TBolt ports on the 27" with quad core across the line.

The $1700 has my cheap side tingling but my professional side is telling me to wait for a Mac Pro update so I can at least consider a machine I can expand myself.

On the plus side, that 21.5" is not a bad machine for the price.Once again, the iMac packs more processing power than the Mac Pro. (Even if you have a single hex-core.)

Eh I don't see it. I think it's a jump the shark move.

What are they going to do?

    Make an aluminum frame?

INclude a tiny aluminum remote with few buttons?

    Build the ATV inside?

Let you calibrate it and configure it from the computer?

    Video conferencing?

    Put nice speakers inside?

Give it a much higher resolution that doubles as a nice computer monitor?

I don't see this stuff as having a big market.

Or maybe they make your tv the computer also? BAsically an iMac. Maybe they release a 42" iMac for $3000.

Still sounds like jump the shark to me.

    Lol.

Yeah, you know what's best for us users though - so we should be elated that you are resisting support for it tooth and nail.

Did you have these Gestures enabled before?

Nope, I've never enabled them before on my iPad as I'm not an official Apple developer and I didn't have access to the beta release that included this feature in the past.

    Don't you just love AT&T? :D

(BTW, there's a few good reasons I use Verizon.)

One of those reasons is that there is no AT&T signal at my house.

same here - literally maybe one bar in the house - texts usually come through when not in basement but definitely no calls. And i'm still loving the iphone every day - practically indispensable at work with epocrates.

thus while 30% sounds bad esp for a large metropolitan area, that would be great for me in my home.

waiting for that femtocell type product release - hurry up AT&T...

Thats probably because the new MBPs completely obliterate the MBA in terms of specs. Run a photoshop render, any render you like, on both machines, you'll see a HUGE difference. The are quiet up till around 70c, which only happens when gaming or doing anything CPU intensive, the same as the MBA.

Oh really? Man, I didnt know.
You are comparing a 2011 chip vs few years ago. Also, from your signature, you are comparing a 15 inch laptop with a 13 ULTRAPORTABLE.
Furthermore, this thread is talking about the GPU sacrifice for the CPU gain... We arent talking about how the CPU in the MBA is better or worse, of course Sandy Bridge will blow the C2D out of the water.
The difference is not in the processors, unless you are doing something such as handbrake, but instead, for the average user, is the GPU, SSD, and software.

What if it's an actual Apple-branded TV? That's one of the latest rumors making the rounds, again  Actually, if Apple did come out with their own HD (1080p) TV, I would be very interested in purchasing it. It would have TV built into it (of course), and therefore would be able to do everything TV can do, only without having to attach a set-top box to the TV. Additionally, since Apple is designing it, the new actual HDTV would be magical :D

I really don't see Apple making an HDTV, but I've been known to be wrong before (although I don't like to admit it :o).

Entitlement? No offense as many feel the same way. I just don't understand how some can realistically expect such a product/service to be free for how new it is.

Seriously, if you can't afford the 20 bucks, should you have anything other than a trac phone?

Problem is the App Store. I don't think Apple thought about this in regards to the Mac App store having larger programs. Sure the iOS App store is easy....most apps are small.

Hyper-Threading (Intel Core i7 only) a technology that allows two threads to run simultaneously on each core. So a quad-core iMac has eight virtual cores, all of which are recognized by Mac OS X. This enables the processor to deliver faster performance by spreading tasks more evenly across a greater number of cores.

    -.-

Come on only Hyper-threading with the i7 -.-

I was looking to verify that . . . it blows now that I know. I didn't want to have to spend the extra $200 for HT.

That's something I'll put on my list when I look at the next base model Mac Pro.

Wouldn't it be smart to wait for Lion in 2 months and get that for free...

Yes, it would, and I'd recommend that for anyone that doesn't need a new machine right this very minute.

I personally, needed one since I sold my Power Mac G5 almost 3 years ago. I've been dying ever since at the home office. I'd pay the $129 or whatever to get Lion later, and drop the cash on the iMac now if I needed a machine right this very minute.
