gentle reminder of how many patents we have seen come and go without anything coming of it.
Indeed. Often patents are filed defensively to prevent others from taking a good idea, even if the patent holder opts not to develop a product.
I hope we get what we all think we're getting, but we've been mislead before....

I'm curious about those who gave this news a negative review?? Are they not for resolution independence? An upgrade to openGL apps behavior? QT?
I assume that QT being 64bit will rock the encoding times for h264... woohoo.
Good news. Nothing gigantic, but good news.

Wow, and nobody could have seen this one coming. Proof that the demand is low: I've never even seen one!
Concur. Never once saw a Zune.
I get the sense MS is scrambling to catch up. They are a software company, and Apple is a hardware & software company (and I'll concede in many cases hardware = gadgets). However, they are all driven by a few streams of software which they continue to improve upon.

I just had to bring in my laptop for random shutdowns and the screen going bonkers like the tv in the movie "the ring" They had it for 5 days and replaced the logic board. Everything seems to be fine now, hopefully nothing else happens "knock on wood"

I noticed that too... I have no idea why they are going to be killing off VB support, but say good-bye to being able to have compatability with any documents with Macros.
I think we need to lean on the MS Mac BU to reverse this decision, and we need to make it VERY CLEAR TO APPLE that this will have major ramifications to the use of Macs in the corporate environment. Maybe Apple can lean on them (with what leverage, I don't know).
Of course, Microsoft can just turn around and say "Well, you want VB so badly? Buy Parallels, Windows, and MS Office 2007. Sure, it's $700, but you Apple users are used to getting fleeced."

Furthermore, Apple said the touch sensitive bezel can be used to obtain touch data corresponding to multiple user controls simultaneously: "For example, the user controls of the bezel can be configured so that one side of the bezel controls brightness with a touch and drag motion by the user, while the other side of the bezel controls contrast with a touch and drag motion by the user. Thus, using both of these sides of the bezel, the user can simultaneously adjust both the contrast and the brightness of the display using touch and drag motions on the sides of the bezel."
...
Apple noted that its latest filing shows several different configurations of electronic devices, each of which contain certain features, details, and configurations. "However, one skilled in the art will understand that such features, details, and configurations can be used with the various different embodiments, even if such features, details, and configurations were not specifically mentioned in conjunction with a particular embodiment, and that this disclosure contemplates various combinations of the features, details, and configurations disclosed herein," the company wrote. "More specifically, the foregoing description of preferred and other embodiments is not intended to limit or restrict the scope or applicability of the inventive concepts conceived of by the Applicants."

I think we'll be seeing this technology in the bevels of all future Macs and displays. Imagine Mr. Jobs' smug little grin when he adjusts the contrast and brightness of an iMac or Macbook display with a stroke of his finger and knows that no other PC or monitor manufacturer can use it!

Rock on, I just downloaded that app. The advice I posted was intended to be platform independent, because not everyone is as lucky as us to be rockin' macs ;)
What are you talking about? Download an app? All that site does is encode your email address and gives you a javascript decoder. It has nothing to do with what platform you are on.

I mean, I really doubt it is, it was in my pocket today when someone splashed water on me, but I doubt very much touched it if at all.
It's starting to get really weird, like the home button will work for a little bit and then voice control will randomly activate and then I'll lose control of the phone and it'll act like I'm screwing with the home button (the quick-start menu will pop up, it'll switch black-and-white mode, voice control, etc...)
Maybe it is water damage? I mean, the phone wasn't wet or anything, how would I know?
That would explain it though cause those symptoms come with water damage.
Check your moist sensors one is on the bottom of the phone where it plugs in and the other on the top where the headphone wire goes.

i'd hope someone who is able to code to figure out to google his answer especially for something like an asp shopping cart....
:o true, sorry about the laziness. I couldn't find anything worthwile so I thought it'd be good to get some advice from the good people at MR. The problem with googling "ASP .NET shopping cart" is that the first 1000 pages or so will be about non-free stuff. Adding "open source" or "free" didn't improve the results that much either. I think I'm going to give PHP another shot since there's tons of open source stuff for it.

I guess I'm not particularly surprised, and I wish we could hear all the reasoning that went into the decision (which, of course, we won't). But given that VMware just about owns the x86 virtualization market and has announced its foray into the Mac universe, I imagine Microsoft figured it'd be a lot of work for what figures to be very little profit.
It's not like we don't have options - I can't imagine Virtual PC will be missed. Those of us still using PowerPC processors can still buy VPC 7.

I suggest that you install tinyumbrella, and run it. It will back up your SHSH blobs and show you what options you actually have....

Interesting, I use Westpac (although I'm in NZ, not Australia), and I haven't had any problems whatsoever with Safari.
With both Mozilla and Safari (don't know about Firefox), there are undocumented procedures to enable a "debug" menu which will (among other things) let you configure the browser to lie about its identity.
In many cases (but not all), this is enough to make an unfriendly web site work. Many times, the site contains scripts that simply check a browser version, even when the actual page content will run everywhere else.
