It's cute that people think Comex actually ever made a working Jailbreak for iPad 2.
I wish I could photoshop my way to 200k followers on Twitter.
Yeah, i bet you dont believe all the other great stuff he released was his work either?

Microsoft has announced that it has halted development on a universal version of VirtualPC.
VirtualPC has long-been the king of the hill for Virtualization on Macintosh. With the Intel transition, however, came competitive pressure from Parallels (http://www.parallels.com/en/products/desktop/), which has since released the final version of its product, and VMWare which is showcasing a beta (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/08/20060805151513.shtml) of its solution at WWDC.
Microsoft has claimed that to port VirtualPC to Intel would be much like making VirtualPC 1.0 all over again.
Digg This (http://digg.com/apple/Microsoft_Officially_Kills_Virtual_PC)
As a Powerbook G4 User, VPC was all of unusable, really slow. I know that it has (had ?) to emulate an entire Hardware platform, but knowing how much bloatware M$ produce, I am sure it could have been a hell of a lot faster if it was coded better. I know that M$ purchased this software from Connectix, but successive versions gained features and lost speed !

let me start by saying that I just got my first mac ever (a new imac) last week.
last night I spend close to an hour just opening tons of different sized windows and using expose.
is this normal or is this the first sign of a mac addiction problem?
or both? :)

Correct me If I'm wrong but I believe that i0nic is working on the unthether exploit that will be used to jailbreak the ipad2
Nope he specifically said in his tweet that he is not involved in any ipad2 jb. Only people working on the ipad2 jailbreak are p0sixninja (chronic dev team) who is collaborating with musclenerd and maybe comex. Basically they are trying to find a bootrom exploit to use which can not be patched by updates. i0nic only found kernel exploits which can not be used without further root access.

Holy cow it was crowded there! I got there at 7:30 and the line was already a whole block long. I'll try and go back around 2 or 3 and check out the situation. If it's still crazy I'll just place an online order for delivery in a couple of weeks.

Sadface. It wasn't ever a bad product; it was actually kind of cool, just poorly marketed and ill-prepared against the iPod juggernaut. They brought very little in the way of new things to the table. Also, who makes an MP3 player and doesn't give it Mac compatibility with how much the Mac install base keeps growing these days?

I have an IBM thinkpad r40 that I purchased new two years ago and I had no idea that I needed to renew the warranty within the warranty period or you can't purchase another one ever from IBM. (This probably has to do with the whole Lenovo exchange stuff). Anyway, it has about 2 years worth of wear and tear and I'd basically be selling it for parts.
If you know how to fix computers then this computer will work just fine for you. There's been some stuff going on with the screen and it might be the video card and I'd rather just retire it. I don't have money to get a new laptop right now so I figure I'd just sell it for what I can get.
Everything functions fine except for the screen that has lines on it and I don't know wussup with that nor do I have the funds to find out. I have all of the backup cds and stuff and it comes with:
-the basic ultrabay ibm cd-rw/dvd-rom drive
-P4 processor
-like 1.2-1.4ghz processor speed (I can't check right now b/c the way the screen is acting)
-384mb of RAM
-Windows XP Home SP2
-original install and backup cds that came with the computer
-battery
-power adapter/charger
I really don't know what else to do with this laptop and it has some good parts in it if you didn't want to fix it up. You will need to add your own hard drive, but that's relatively inexpensive as well.
I paid about $1000 for this laptop, but since I don't know what the deal is and cant really afford to get it looked at I'm willing to sell for $300 shipped.

How can I convert a mkv movie to DVD?
MPEG Streamclip > CMD+E > export it using the Apple Intermediate Codec for VIDEO (Compressor) and Uncompressed for AUDIO (Sound).
Then use iDVD, comes with iLife and make a video DVD.
I used to be able to do it in Compressor. It took ages for it to accept a mkv file that I had dragged into it, but after a VERY long while the spinning beach ball would stop and it would appear in the window so I could apply whatever DVD settings I wanted.
However that seems to have stopped working. But if you have an older version of Compressor or haven't upgraded your system in a while you might try it.
Otherwise, if you have the late lamented Visualhub (or are able to find a working version) you can convert the mkv directly to a DVD.
Or you can use Handbrake to convert the mkv using the best quality settings possible and then use Compressor (if you have it) to make a DVD
Those are all things I've done so I know they work.
I haven't done this but it seems to work - if you have Toast, drag the mkv into the Video tab with DVD-Video chosen.
What if the OP has no access to FCS?

However, you can't buy a Macintosh version of the 4Ti 4200.
Since nVidia doesn't create anything but the reference video cards, various companies create the actual retail and OEM versions. Apple is one of the OEMs and they really don't see any reason to put money into a weaker card. Two levels (for the PowerMacs) is enough. Perhaps, if one of the smaller Windows video card players were interested in a small market, they could be convinced to sell and support their cards.

What happened to the positive/negative rating system? Did its value go from worthless to pathetically useless?
Still, I liked the ratings, it gave an overall sense to the story (sometimes).
Besides that, A+ on the site so far.

Probably not, or you'd see Chevrolet selling the old generation Corvettes for the price of a Chevette. Just so poor people could afford a fast car.
Doubtful there is enough margin in the eMac for Apple shave $500 out of the price and still make money.

There is still some hope, but it is looking pretty grim.
1. GIMP does not support the 5700i because it does not use Postscript. They also stated they would not write a driver cause it would take too much time.
2. Last Saturday the French site for Epson posted a LaserWriter driver for the 5800 which is a postscript printer. The good thing is that this driver has the Epson utilities in it, so theoritically all that is left to do is the actual driver for the 5700i.
3. I read on another board, that Epson Support had told one person that they would be coming out with a driver in September, needless to say it is now September.
The Omni printer system for Linux does support this printer and maybe even the full blown CUPS also probably comes with a driver, so if Epson can just take some time and port the driver over, it should be a lot closer than if they were to start with nothing.

Have newly acquired similar poor performance with full screen hulu on the family's mac mini (9400 video).
Only fix I have figured out that works for me was installing the older FireFox 3.6.xx (right along with FF4) and with the older FF, full screen flash works as it did in the past, i.e. Great.
Try it and let me know if this workd for you.

Can you change the battery without voiding Apple's warranty?
For the new laptops without removable batteries, no you can't. The previous generation has external batteries that are removable with a simple coin twist of a lock.

I have to say, the best thing to come out of today is iTunes. It seems to have some real, quality new features. We have gapless (finally) we have better album art management, better ipod management, better downloads.
Im impressed, and by apple not really updating the ipod today, it didnt cost me anything!
